These are nice coolers! Take care of them.

I had one of these before, and it lasted over 8 years and well over 40 football tailgate sessions and 3 trips across country before giving it up. To those who have it burn out too soon, it is extremely important to allow plenty of room for air flow around the fans (inside and outside). DO NOT PUT ICE IN IT! Water will cause it to ice up faster and, if it gets in the fan, you will kill the motor. If you want to supplement the cooling, use Imitation Ice packets.

Leave room for air to circulate around the fans. If the outside fan gets blocked, the heat exchanger will burn out in short order. If the inside fan gets blocked, it will not be able to cool efficiently and may ice up easier.

These are nice coolers and will last you a long time as long as you take care of them.

Trucker tested, Trucker approved...

Love it, but the plastic connector melted. So I place an inline fuse and used a direct connection to the battery, at the cb dash connection. I also cut down the length of the cord to cut down the amount of resistance in the line. I also uses a 2 wire quick disconnect so that I am able to unplug it while not in my truck for home time. Used shrink wrap at new connections. I figured out that the cord was to long and causing a higher power draw through it which caused the over heating/ melt down. Just an engineering over site, wanting to give a person ability to place it away from power source. Stopped the melt downs and over heating of the cord. Can keep milk for a week or more, consistent temp, it is dependent on the ambient temperature. I would buy one again. Bought in December 2017 still going strong. 3/2019

It's Ok. Frosts up a lot. It has a hard time keeping up when its warmer than 80 degrees. Amendment 60days and it has died. I will try to get a replacement from Coleman since it has a 1 year warranty

Much better than expected

I purchased this cooler just prior to going to visit my daughter in Houston Texas. I planned to drive from my home in New York state to Houston. Google Maps says that is about 1,750 miles each way. My car odometer agrees. I wanted something to keep some snacks and drinks cool along the way and did not want to worry about where I could get ice. Amazon, bless them, got it to me the Friday before I planed to leave on Monday.

Since it is not a refrigeration unit I assumed it would take some time to get cold. I plugged it in Saturday morning (I also bought the power brick) and let it rum. Since I was not sure if it would really get cold I placed a thermometer inside so I could check. The temperature in the living room was about 74 degrees. By Sunday evening the cooler registered at 30 degrees.

I packed the cooler with soda cans and water bottles chilled in the refrigerator. Also, some cut up veggies etc.. Other than the time the unit was unplugged during transport between the car and the hotel room it was running 24/7 for 7 days counting the two before I left. The unit gave no problems while running in the car and the power brick never got more than warm to the touch. Never hot.

I used the cooler exactly the same way on the return trip. The only problem I ever had was that some of my cut up veggies froze in their plastic container box. They actually had visible frost on them and were stuck together. All-in-all, I found the unit very convenient to use. It will be in the back seat of the car on any future trips around the country.

EDIT: One thing I should add. During my stay in Houston the unit ran 24/7 for 9 days using the power adapter.

This thing is awesome! Keep that blower/vent clear.

Hits 30° running the pre-chill in the house. Had to get a thermometer to keep constant track of the temperature. But now I totally trust it.

Worked Well On First Long Trip
by Amy (5 out of 5 stars)
May 3, 2016

My husband and I used this cooler for a trip from Ohio to Florida. We needed to keep our dog's fresh pet food cold and, of course, we had our own sandwiches, fruit, soft drinks and water. Although it is cumbersome to carry in and out of the car, if you follow the recommendations by cooling it first, cooling your items in the refrigerator before loading, and keeping it running either in the car or in another cool place, you will be very happy with the results. This is NOT a refrigerator, so it only cools well when in a cool place. It will chill the items to about 30 degrees below the environment. In other words, it will not chill items out in the hot sun. We brought it into our hotel room and plugged it in, It worked perfectly. With road noise in the car, we did not hear it run. My husband's only comment about the unit was that he wished it had wheels like some Igloos, since he was the one moving it in and out. I have attached a photo to illustrate the size. There is a Dasani water bottle on the rim for reference.

Not worth it.

I bought three of these, two for gifts and one for me. Mine worked good for one road trip, then started blowing fuses. I couldn't keep enough fuses on hand to keep it running. The two gifts didn't last very long either until they started blowing fuses. On any of them, it didn't matter if they were plugged into 12v or 110v.

FAILED, 6 MONTHS SINCE PURCHASE, AFTER JUST TWO USES: THE THIRD COLEMAN THERMOELECTRIC 'COOLER' to d
by f (1 out of 5 stars)
May 28, 2016

Failed after 2 brief uses: less than 4 weeks' vacationing in total. Fan and cooler shut-down, right in the middle of our second vacation. Thanks Coleman.

Power clearly reaching the unit. It's the third such failure in less than 5 years. It's under warranty, so let's hope we get a replacement - maybe.

Then, eventually, a 'grudging' email received from Coleman: an extraordinarily complex 'process' to return it: photographs, incident ID numbers to be written on the unit in indelible ink, then photographed again, then my receipt (from Amazon) had to be photographed with the ID number (what's wrong with the name and address and receipt) - again. Al in all 2 hours' work Coleman generated.

No apology for the inadequate quality of this goods, which ruined part of a 6000 mile road trip.

Finally, THERMOELECTRIC units are a waste of time and money: they have a high power consumption and barely cool the goods.

So, either pay for a proper 'fridge compressor unit - or just buy a coolbox to put ice into (and not Coleman's).

Just okay

We use this on our sailboat and have a single deep cycle battery with 2 - 150 watt solar panels to keep the cooler and cabin lights going. We have to unplug it when the sun goes down to have enough to run the cabin lights until the sun comes up. It draws a lot of power and collects a ton of condensation inside. Perhaps this is because our boat is in the Florida Keys. It doesn't get really cold, but the description let's you know that. Other than that it does a decent job.

Truckers Beware!!!
by Rachel Davis (1 out of 5 stars)

The price was fairly decent compared to similar products on the market. It arrived quickly as I am a prime member but this product was a complete waste of time. My husband is a truck driver (the box has a semi pictured on box) so we figured with the reviews it should work. Oh boy were we wrong, after he stocked it with a few items (drinks) and it seemed to function as normal he then decided to purchase a few more items (milk, meats and cheese) and within a week it started not to keep those items even cool to the touch. Contacted Amazon and they replaced it with the exact same one and within that 1st week it too had stopped working. Neither cooler was anywhere near full. Maybe we just happened to get 2 of the worst ones but with the hassle of 2 returns and waste of food it wasn't worth the time or money!
