Great screen for front or rear-projection!by hi viz backpack (5 out of 5 stars)

We bought this for use at the neighborhood pool club. It's exactly what we needed. The colors are bright and saturated, setting focus and keystone is easy, it's portable, sturdy, and assembly is straight-forward. Unlike the inflatable screens, it doesn't require a fan, so it's quiet, and most importantly, we can project from the rear which is a necessity since we use it at the edge of a 25 meter pool -- (we can't exactly float the projector on an inner-tube).
Another reviewer knocked the screen's image-quality when used for rear-projection calling it dim and not sharp. We use a 3500 lumen projector and have been satisfied with its image quality when projecting from front or rear. Our expectations may be a little lower than his, but they certainly aren't "low." Another frequent complaint, visible creases in the fabric can sometimes be seen in daylight, but when the screen is in use, you'd really have to strain to find them, and they are no impediment to anyone's fun.
Our club had the projector many years before screens like these were available. At that time, the only rear-projection screens we could get were intended for trade-show use and they were ridiculously expensive, so we'd string up shower curtains on movie night. We're so grateful Camp Chef entered the market with these backyard screens -- the shower curtains were a royal pain!
The labels on the poles makes it easy to put together

I've hosted dozens of outdoor movie nights over the years. Over the past 6 years I used the Gemmy 144" inflatable screen until the fan housing cracked and it would not stay inflated. I did a lot of research and read the reviews on this Item and decided to try it out.
The labels on the poles makes it easy to put together but it takes a bit of time to get it set up. I had some issues with a couple of the poles where the hole placement seemed to be off by a fraction of a millimeter, I was able to use a drill to make the hole slightly larger so I could lock the poles into place. I finally put it together and tried to lift it by myself but was afraid that the frame would bend/twist/break so I needed assistance. This is not a huge problem but I normally do the set up by myself without needing to find another person.
The wind was blowing slightly and the screen didn't even budge, which was much better than the inflatable screen I used in the past There is a crease in the middle of the screen, I allowed it to lay flat on an extra bed for a few hours and then put it up, the crease was still there but you can't see it when the movie is playing.
There are a lot of plastic clamps that hold the screen to the poles to keep the screen firm but I am not sure how long they will last before they break, or if you can even buy replacment clamps if they do break.
I did not give this a 5 star rating because I think there is some room for improvement. It should have a center support to keep frame from bowing over time and I think the clamps need to be replaced by something that doesn't feel like it is going to snap. Other than that, It worked well for our Movie Night.
A little bit disappointed. The screen itself is great

A little bit disappointed. The screen itself is great. Exactly what I expected, and has been a hit at camp. Great quality display, nice and tight screen, no wrinkles or flapping like you get with inflatable screens. But I have two complaints. I had to drop it one star because the screen was dirty when I unboxed it, almost like it had been used. My biggest complaint is on the frame.... Nice sturdy frame but..... The snap buttons that hold each pole together don't all snap. The holes in 3 different poles do not line up with the snap buttons that secure the poles together. The problem is that the male end of the effected poles aren't able to slide into the female pole ends enough to line up to allow the snap buttons to do their job. I tried and tried to get them to line up, I thought maybe I was putting it together wrong. So I had 2 other people try and fit them together. They had the same problem. It was on vertical pieces, so I don't think it's going to cause a real problem. But.... For the price I expect the parts to go together properly. Still debating if it's a big enough problem to deal with trying to get replacement poles..... If the screen was clean out of the box, and I didn't have issues with the poles I would give this screen 6 stars. I'm still able to fully enjoy the screen. Some people mention a seam along the center of the screen, it is not a seam, it is a crease from being folded and is not at all noticable when watching a movie. I expect with time the crease will relax. But again, it isn't noticable once the projector is turned on and playing a movie. Besides my rv, this screen is my favorite camping toy.
Big Screen

Excellent screen, easy to put together but will need two people to set up. Frame is labeled to take the guesswork out of it, Also comes with a blackout shade on the back side that blocks out any light on the other side. The screen is a grayish color not white, so your colors wont be washed out an produces excellent color. Perfect size screen for any backyard movie night. Just to give you how big the 144" screen is, the person in the pic is 5'10".
Replacement needed. Not well constructed.

I'm not over the moon happy about this product. I don't really find it well engineered or constructed. There are numerous build issues I have (see photos) and I'm hoping this was just a goof up. I'm going to request a replacement.
1.) The "feet" pieces are set at oblique angles (not perpendicular to the screen). I thought this was intentional, but they both skew left.
2.) One of the feet has a bulge in it that makes it unstable.
3.) Two of the clips that stretch the screen aren't long enough. I tried to elongate them using the clasps, but it's about 1-inch short.
4.) The metal scuffs and scratches pretty easily. I haven't seen any rust yet, but I can see some spots where humidity may be a problem.
5.) The screen isn't reflective at all. More of a dull grey color. It works great at night, but even with a 3000 lumen projector, any ambient light wrecks the image.
6.) The bag that it comes in is horribly stitched. It popped a seam the first night of viewing.
Honestly, the screen is the one saving grace of this product. It stretches very well and is made of a very tough durable material that smooths out well so you don't see any wrinkles during viewing. I'll update my review when I get a replacement.
Not a quick and easy set up as you'd hope. Don't think this was built for longevity.

This is okay. I mean it works as a screen but it is a pain in the butt - and potentially painful to put it up and when you take it down.
The bars all "click" together with buttons (slide the pole in until the metal button on the other pole clicks into the hole). Several would not "click" or snap in. The attaching clips on the sides of the screen material are plastic. Considering the tension and fight you have to give it to get it on the frame it is only a matter of time before these puppies start snapping off. Even though one side of the screen has adjustable straps it still wasn't quite enough - so you have to really stretch the screen or pull the poles inward to get the screen attached (which slightly bows the poles). I know it's supposed to be tight for a good picture, but this may be a smidge too tight. I've caught/pinched my fingers several times, broken and torn finger nails fighting with thing. You REALLY need two people to do this and even then it can be a pain. I put most of it together by myself but needed help to get the screen on the frame and then upright.
We didn't end up using it as much as we intended due to the annoying/painful set up.
After watching a movie at night it's not fun trying to take it down so one night we took the screen material off but left the framework outside then put it away the next day. We did this about 3 times overall all summer - was not out during the rain - but interior of metal poles is already starting to rust. I don't think this is going to last very long. Disappointing.
Nice screen for the money

Received the screen in nice packaging. I was concerned that it was damaged during shipping but was pleased to see that it was well packaged. It comes inside a carrying bag which is double boxed.
Assembly was easy, just follow"‹ the diagram and match the letter coded joints. The Assembly instructions are permanently attached to the carrying bag ensuring that they are not lost. I did manage to scratch the paint on the frame on a few spots by assembling it on a concrete driveway. The paint is quite soft and scratches easily. It may last longer if assembly is done on grass. Some of the joints had a bit of paint build up and needed to be forced. Also, some of the holes for the snaps did not line up properly so some of the joints were not locked. In order for the post to line up properly, I pressed the snap in and rotated the pipe.
The screen felt sturdy and of good quality. Although it has adjustable straps, it takes a bit of force to get them around the frame. The frame flexes a bit so it also pulls back making drum tight. My concern is that eventually one of the clips will break by forcing it to attach to the frame.
We enjoyed a couple of movies so far with it. I just wished that the frame was of a little better quality.

I've had this projector for a few months now, so I think I have had enough time to judge it's ability. ITS AMAZING! I looked for weeks to find a movie screen. Some reviews were great and others were horrible. But I took the risk and ordered the expensive one. I especially wanted a stand so it was important. I ordered this knowing the size but I guess the other people in my family were expecting a much smaller size. The instructions were simple. We had a major struggle getting one of the pipes to connect to another pipe. I think the opening was deformed but my husband used a hammer to fit it in. If he hadn't of fixed it, that would have insanely affected my opinion on this movie screen. Its pretty simple to assemble, taking less than 15 minutes. The only challenging part is securing the hooks on to the pipes. It takes a lot of force, hurting my fingers. I thought i would have broken it, but it was fine. All in all, we had a successful sweet sixteen watching Mulan with the giant movie screen.
Excellent screen, but had to grind down one pole to fit properly

This is a great screen! I did have to grind down the end of one pipe so that the spring-loaded retainer would pop into its hole. The pipe was too long and prevented it from lining up with the little hole it's supposed to pop into to lock two of the poles together. Minor fix, but they should check the fitting on these before shipping. That's why I'm giving it 4 stars. Other than that, it works great. I've projected from the back side with an Optoma HD25e and the image looks fantastic.
I also mounted L-brackets onto some Polk Audio bookshelf speakers, and put a couple of screws in the left and right poles so that the speakers just hang off each side, which works fantastic! I use two small bungee cords to hang the center channel below the lower horizontal pole.
The screen has no wrinkles once assembled - very tight and smooth surface. Well worth the money!
Recommending for the warranty and customer experience

We selected the screen for all of it's quality features but would recommend Camp Chef products for their customer experience and ease of warranty help. It is a quality product, sturdy frame, but our frame was bent and snapped at a joint where two pieces are welded together. We tied the frame down to "wind proof " it but ended up damaging it by tying it down too firmly. We contacted the warranty department and explained our situation and they were willing to work with us on replacing the part. It shipped and arrived in about a week. The screen comes with a one year warranty, so initially, the warranty department offered to sell us the part we needed because we were out of warranty. A phone call and explanation resulted in our warranty honored and part shipped at no cost to us. What I most appreciate about the customer service experience is that it was easy to reach them, the policy was clear but we were not treated like just another out of warranty customer. It was clear that CampChef stands behind their product. We used the screen about 3 or 4 times in the summer time and will use it in the fall for Sunday night football.
