Wonderbag Portable Slow Cooker with Recipe Cookbook, Blue Batik
What's a Wonderbag?
Wonderbag is a simple but revolutionary non-electric, portable slow cooker. Wonderbag's clever insulation allows food that has been brought to the boil to continue slow cooking or warm while in the bag. No plugs. No Fuss. No electricity required, so it’s worry-free.
Slow Cooking with Wonderbag
To slow cook, simply bring food to a boil on a stove, let simmer (5 minutes for rice and grains, 15 minutes for root vegetables, meat or presoaked beans), then put the pot with lid into your Wonderbag, close tightly, and slow cook to perfection up to 12 hours. Because it is not on direct heat, it will never overcook or burn. Wonderbag is perfect for bringing delicious home cooked meals to potlucks, dinner parties, tailgating, or camping. Itâs perfect for holidays when stove and counter space are at a premium.
Powerless is Powerful - Buy One Donate One
Powerless is powerful. Wonderbag isn’t just a powerless cooker; it’s an instrument for change. 3 billion women still cook over wood fires, a major source of health, environmental and socio-economic issues. By drastically reducing time spent cooking, the Wonderbag empowers women across Africa to participate in more activities outside of the home enhancing their quality of life. Using the Wonderbag helps save water, reduces the carbon footprint, minimizes deforestation, smoke inhalation diseases and deaths. One Wonderbag per year saves 1.7 trees, 1000 liters of water and 1,248 hours of time not spent collecting firewood. For every Wonderbag purchased in the US, one is donated to a family in need in Africa.

Best You Know This
- Use with copper, steel, aluminum, enameled cast iron, or glassware pots in standard sizes with short handles and tight fitting lid. Use the right sized pot for the food you want to cook in order to best retain heat.
- Bring all food to a boil before putting into a Wonderbag. For best results keep bag and pot closed for the entire cooking time.
- Hand wash, hang dry. Use a dishtowel in the base of the Wonderbag to protect it from spills.
- There is no evaporation when cooking, so use less liquid than you otherwise would. If using alcohol in your recipe, allow it to boil off for 5 minutes before placing in Wonderbag.
- Please note: Wonderbag will arrive vacuum sealed and must be fluffed up before first usage.

Wonderbag to the rescue!by Beckie B. (5 out of 5 stars)

Our Wonderbag saved our baked chicken! Dramatic statement but true. We have been using it for things like spaghetti sauce for a while but it came to the rescue last week. We were waiting for Hurricane Matthew to reach our area and decided that since we may lose power, we should bake some boneless skinless chicken early in the day and then we could have cold chicken for dinner if we lost power. Unfortunately, we lost power much earlier than anticipated and normally might have lost our meal. I thought, why don't we put it in the Wonderbag in the heated cast iron pot and see how it does? It was amazing! It had finished cooking all the way through when we checked it after 2 hours. Not only did we have a hot dinner when we had no power but it was delicious! The chicken was tender and moist. I think we may start cooking it this way more often!!
(We made it through the storm fine, no real damage to speak of, we were lucky.)
MUCH LARGER than I realized. See pic with yard stick for reference.

Not sure how to rate this... as I'm not keeping it (It won't work as I thought for my needs). However, that is not the fault of the product.
it looks amazing, quality is fabulous near as I can tell. I originally put this on my Wishlist long time ago thinking it would be great for my RV. In that time others described the size as being bulky. When I received it as a Christmas gift I was very surprised at the footprint/space it takes up in a small RV where storage is a premium. (See attached picture with a YARD STICK for comparison).
I gave a four star rating because this wonderbag looks like a great product. It will also keep cold foods cold.

This bag is a complete win-win, but read the instructions carefully! They are very simple to follow and written in plain English.
The first time out for my Wonderbag was during a heat wave where I didn't want to use the oven. I made a pork green chile that normally cooks for 3 hours. I put everything together like I usually do, boiled for 15 minutes (which is one of the things mentioned in the instructions), put it into the bag -- and then we went to the movies. When we came back we had a cool house, and our tender delicious meal was ready. I have used it a few more times since then and each time it's a success. I love it. This would be amazing to take on a car camping trip, by the way. You could put together a stew in the morning, lock the bag in the car to keep it away from curious animals, then go hiking -- and come back hungry and tired with a meal ready.
For those who think it's a bit on the pricey side - I can only imagine what a gift this is to the woman who gets a Wonderbag free because of my purchase. I'm already enjoying good food and a savings on natural gas - and she gets the good food with less drudgery and a home without added heat and smoke. What an ingenious, generous invention.
Amazing! This is my favorite thing ever.

The wunderbag delivers in a big way. I've used it to cook beans, make delicious stews as I would in a slow cooker, keep beer cold on camping trips, and keep food warm for serving all afternoon.
Also, having worked in developing countries with people for whom indoor air pollution and access to firewood were huge issues of environmental justice and just plain environmental harm, I'm really happy to see an organization taking a simple concept like this that can do a lot of good! It's concept is also simple enough that people can see the use right away instead of adapting to a completely different methodology like a solar oven.
There are only two issues:
1. Don't spill anything too much! It is liquid-resistant and you can wipe off small stains on the surface, but I once spilled a large amount of miso soup. It soaked into the insulating material and even though I tried to wash it with water, whatever that material is soaks up a lot of H20. Now it smells a little rank, though still works great.
2. It's a lot bulkier than you'd think and doesn't really compress. You may need more storage space than you would for a traditional slow cooker!
Great product, LOVE it!

I bought this after hearing about it and seeing the website. I was extremely dubious when I purchased it, quite skeptical of the possibility of a "electricity-free" slow-cooker. How incredibly wrong I was!
I purchased one of these the day they were available here on Amazon. I got it in a few days, and it was packaged very well. It took a bit of work to get it fluffed out (they vacuum seal it in plastic for shipping to reduce bulk, and you have to fluff up the foam inside the fabric bag, so that it insulates properly.) Once it was ready to go and had sat the recommended time, I was ready to use it!
I do want to note that I purchased a silicone trivet to put in the bottom, just to ensure that the table I put this on while I'm cooking with it doesn't get scorched. I don't think it would without it, but I just didn't want to take any chances, and it was recommended.
The first thing I cooked with this was a beef roast, with carrots and potatoes. I browned the roast in a skillet, put everything into a 7qt stainless steel stock pot, put on the lid, and got it up to a rolling boil on my stove, then let it go for about 20 minutes like the instructions say. I honestly wondered if I was going to be out a roast with this thing, but I followed the directions, and after boiling for 20 minutes, I put it in the bag, put the top on, and sealed it up, and 8 hours later, I had the juiciest, most tender, flavorful roast I've EVER had. The stock in the pot was STILL STEAMING when I removed the lid! I was amazed. The potatoes and carrots were fully cooked as well, and very tender. I've since used it a couple more times, including most recently to make slow-cooker potato soup! I highly recommend this to anyone who is considering buying it, and I LOVE that it doesn't require any more electricity after the initial start (the roast was cooked when we were getting a huge ice storm, and I figured that if it worked, at least we'd have a hot meal should the power go out!) For people who use their crock pots regularly, I highly recommend this, because you'll save yourself all kinds of money in electricity by switching to this Wonderbag!
Not to mention, the donate one for every one sold, which is just a really good feeling to know you're helping the less fortunate!
For those with kids: The outside of the bag never got more than "warm," so if you have little ones who might reach out and touch the bag while it has a hot pot in it, don't worry, - the outside never gets hot enough to burn!
Meh.

This had a funny smell after I opened it, like a chemical smell and I got a headache. I never read the reviews, but most say it didn't work. I also noticed that the stitching was very weak. It looks like the thin thread you'd find in a dollar store sewing kit, and the material is thin. The bottom is not insulated. I just didn't want to risk it, and so I returned it. I appreciate the charity of the product, but it's very cheaply made and I don't trust a recyled stuffing material from another country.
They are better off with solar ovens than this thing, honestly.
Bummer it doesn't work

I don't know how there are so many high ratings for this! I really wanted this to work for my off grid cabin. I envisioned putting a pot of stew or chili in it when we left on a day hike in the snow and returning to a hot delicious meal. I followed the instructions on the web to make rice(none were included which seems to be a common issue). 9 hours later the rice was uncooked and the water was cold. Returning for refund. Such a bummer.

I really loved the idea of this product. Unfortunately, it may be that this type of thing would be better if homemade. It arrives with the foam filling hardened into a number of fist sized rocks inside the cloth bag. You cannot use this as is, you have to break up the foam with your fingers. As it is very stale, and the foam feels old, it is difficult to do. With my somewhat arthritic hands, it's actually been agonizing. As it is, I've been at this for a half hour and only have a tiny section done. To get the whole very large warmer bag done, it may take me a week or 5 days and that is not a joke. I'm no stranger to a handmade item, but this is ridiculous.

I am here today to purchase my second one. Not because anything is wrong with the first but I it so much I need a second. I use it all the time. I make yogurt, soups, rice and I use it to keep things hot at a party. It is one of the most used "tools" in the kitchen. I also take it in the R.V. I never even put it away. It is bulky but it's worth it for me.
it's better than a crock pot

If you're wondering if this really works, I can assure you that it does. With a cast iron dutch oven, it's better than a crock pot. You just bring your dinner to a boil on your stove, then immediately pop it into the bag. It'll cook for 6-8 hours, then keep your dinner warm until you're ready for it, without scorching it or drying it out. The bag is very large, big enough that my cats keep trying to use it as a bed. This would be great for camping, when you want to save fuel and not sit over a fire cooking all day.
