Wanted to like it. Cannot recommend it.

I wanted to like this product.

I am a big fan of countdown clocks, and use them both for immediate practical purposes (a work deadline) and for reminding myself of my own mortality. A portable one I could wear on my wrist was exactly the kind of product I would be eager to own.

Today I have received my watch, which I ordered directly from the company. And I'm disappointed at how it has been implemented. As you know, the watch is meant to display how much "time you have left", which means you have to program it to some point in the future so it can count down; most people would choose a future birthday. I decided to use my 80th.

Standard countdown clocks allow you to program in a specific year, month and day, then count down the time that remains. Not the Tikker watch. Instead of giving the Tikker watch a target date, you tell it how many years, months and days you want it to count down, then start it running the countdown. But this does not result in an accurate countdown, because a month on a Tikker watch is exactly 30 days -- the day counter rolls over at 30 when attempting to program it. This means a Tikker year is 360 days long, which means it ends each year 5 days early, 6 days for leap years. Over the course of a 20 year "countdown", that's a full 105 days. Even if you were to program the watch to count down a single year, it would end 5 days early unless you tricked it by telling it to count down a year and 5 days.

It is simply unacceptable that the watch fails to perform the most basic function for which it was designed. And beyond this, it's not designed to last a long time. The watch itself is a cheap plastic fob, almost like a toy, that is wedged into the hole in the center of the "band". It does not come with standard band holes, so it cannot be attached to a band of your choice, only used with the company's proprietary band; this makes future replacement a concern. The watch is almost certainly not water-proof, nor even resistant; I would not recommend wearing it in the shower.

UPDATE: aaaaand a few months after owning it, it just decided to reset itself one day. What a piece of junk.

My recommendation: get a good desktop countdown clock instead. I recommend Sper Scientific 810017 Long Range Digital Countdown Project Timer

Very frustrating. Couldn't even get it to turn on. I have tried to email the company per instructions with no response. This was suppose to be my daughters Christmas gift...what a disappointment! If I get a response from them I will write a better review but for now I am so upset.

The device arrived with a low battery charge. When I tried to set it up the battery died completely. Yes, I know I could have gone to a jeweler and had a battery installed. But, dammit, I have other things to do. I really don't need to be fooled into what my probable life-span will be. God determines that anyway.

Interesting Concept and Possibly Helps be Aware of Time Remaining for Events or Goals
by Justin R. Germino (3 out of 5 stars)

A watch that focuses on counting down how much time you have left, showing you that time is limited keeping you focused on making the most of your time that is left to reach what it is counting down to. It has very specific and limited functions, long battery life, but could be easier to program pre-set durations for convenience. As a watch it has limitations, no way to set an alarm, no smart technology to have it 1 touch set goals, or automation like 30 day, 5 year, 1 year...etc. It would be nice to be able to 1 click or easily select some goals, or have some smart technology that can let it sync to some average spans online to pre-fill that info, and possibly use more measurements like factor in health, weight...etc. So it could always have more, but it achieves the purpose it was designed for and that is a simple way to show how much time you have left. I should also note that the watch is fine for my wrist, but is rather large I would imagine for ladies slender wrists. The white or black band at least give you some style options.

Disclaimer: Ticker did send me the watch to do a thorough and honest review. All opinions are 100% mine and mine alone.

It works, but I am not "delighted."

Just received the watch today. It has 2 alternate soft plastic straps, one white and one black, which are reasonably comfortable. Unfortunately, it was apparently designed for men only - the size is too large for a female wrist. It does do what it says it will do, which is count down until your estimated time of death. However, I was hoping for a more sophisticated algorithm to calculate my expected life span, and the directions for setting it could use some improvement, like clear English. Nevertheless, I will keep it to remind myself to be mindful.

Great idea, very poorly executed. And too expensive.

I believe I was one of the first to order the Tikker watch. I had the idea of a "countdown" watch to make you focus and make the most of your life. In doing a web search for such an item I found the Kickstarter campaign for Tikker. I pre-ordered one and it took quite a while but I finally got it. What a disappointment. It was certainly more expensive than it should have been. It's a cheap timekeeping disc with three fields of LCD display as you can see in the photos. The top series is years/months/days left, the middle is hours/minutes/seconds left and the bottom is regular time. You have to set your expected remaining life-time, it's not like it does it for you. It is large and very bulky when the disc is inserted in the rubber band. I wore it only for a short time after I got it. It quickly lost its novelty probably because of its bulk and poor execution of a good idea. Also, if you accidentally push the top button the countdown display stops. Not sure why they would program it that way. I ended up misplacing the instructions on how to set it and those weren't clear anyway. I just recently pulled the watch out of my drawer to see if anyone was selling them and I found it listed here on Amazon. I could not resist giving my review. I managed to set the watch without instructions and wore it again for a couple days, but back in the drawer it goes. Seriously, don't waste your money, and if you do want to, I'll sell you mine. I think if you like the idea of a "countdown" watch the Mr. Jones Watches Accurate would be a better choice. Amazon won't let me post a link. It doesn't count down but reminds you of your mortality.
