Awesome little remote for my motorcycle.
by Q (5 out of 5 stars)
March 8, 2015

First of all, I was surprised that there aren't as many of these bluetooth remotes out there. That being said, this one would probably be the best designed anyways.

Pros:

Small and compact

Aesthetically pleasing

Functions as advertized

Cons:

Hard to push pairing button

Steering wheel mount diameter is to big for my motorcycle handlebars (not a real complaint since that's not the design, but something for them to think about if they come out with a newer model)

The unit looks great and functions as it should. The button in the back which is the pairing button is a little hard to push but other than that I have no legitimate complaints. I bought this for my motorcycle so I could control my music in my bluetooth helmet without taking my hands off of the handle bars. The steering wheel attachment is awesome and I used it to help mount it to my handlebars. My handlebars diameter is slightly smaller than a steering wheel which allowed it to spin freely so I used some thick foam tape to bulk it up and then rapped the base up to keep it from spinning due to the vibrations. I think this company would do much better with this product if they targeted motorcycles as well. I'm not sure how it will hold up to water, but then again, I don't plan to ride in the rain. However, if it happens, I will update.

Addition: I'm using this with a samsung galaxy note 4. This product pops up as a keyboard on my phone. Works with amazon mp3, slacker radio, iheart radio and Google music app.

June 4th 2015 update!

So after a few months of use, this little guy is still going strong, I use it a lot and it seems very tough. I will update again if it breaks anytime soon. With that being said, I got caught in the rain a couple weeks ago, which was light to moderate shower and it held up just fine. Also yesterday I was near the beach and in the morning my bike (including the button) was covered in a heavy, heavy dew. After the ride home today, I think it's in the clear as its still working fine with no deficits. But again, only time will tell. Bottom line? 4 of my riding buddies have bought one since I got mine and they all love it and you will too. Good job Satechi.

Expected more for $30

The Good: While setting up the initial connection took a few tries, once it connected it worked wonderfully to control the music in my older car. The clip it comes with fits well on my steering wheel and did not interfere with my driving.

The Bad: On Android this device is detected as a bluetooth keyboard, which is how it passes the media button functions to the phone. What was not made clear when I used this was that it will disable the software keyboard on your phone so-long as it is connected. This means you cannot type in directions, reply to a text, or dial a phone number while this device is connected. While the in-ability to type could be considered a plus since this is likely being bought by most to be an in-car media controller. The biggest problem I encountered was the devices auto-sleep/timeout function, which seems to put the device to sleep after roughly 15 minutes of inactivity. Basically if a button is not pressed on the device at least every 15 minutes the device will go to sleep and will take time to reconnect after waking back up. For something targeting drivers in older cars this product has some glaring issues that I would not expect to find in any modern piece of tech especially when it costs almost double what most other devices cost to perform the same function.

Best music clicker type thingy I have every used
by Queens, NY Customer (5 out of 5 stars)
July 11, 2019

Long story short, I have an injury which makes holding a cell phone difficult for long times, but always use one to read my books. I have a holder that holds it in place for me, and I use a "music clicker button" thingy to turn the pages for me. I have used other versions that were cheaper, and they were ok, but this was by far the best and easiest to use.

Pros: Has the cool holder, like a huge ring to help hold it.

Doesn't time out in 1 minute like other ones, so I never have to reconnect it in between pages.

MUCH BETTER QUALITY. I am not struggling to click it like others I have used.

Cons: None I see yet.

Took me three tries for my phone to recognize it, but that could also be my phone. No problems since connected.

I wanted to like this, but it just didnt perform as I ...

I wanted to like this, but it just didnt perform as I had hoped. It times out after about 5-10 minutes, and disconnects from the device. So, if you listen to a song or two, then need to pause, or skip a track, it wont work immediately, and you have to click a button and then wait about 10 seconds for it to regain the bluetooth connection with your device. It is JUST annoying enough for me to skip using it altogether. In the time it takes for me to wait around for it to reconnect, and push the button several times to see if it has regained connection, I could have just gotten my phone unlocked and paused or skipped the track from the phone screen. Not really worth it for $30. FYI: I am using a Galaxy S7 Edge.

Very easy to use day-to-day
by Timbo M. (5 out of 5 stars)

My 33 year old VW has a nice new Sony stereo, but it's behind the gear shifter. I like to skip through songs a lot, so having an easy to access skip button is a must. This fit right on the spoke of the steering wheel, putting it in a similar position as the factory steering wheel control is on my Prius.

This was easy to set up. Pair by pushing a small button on the back, and mount it. After that it just works. Pushing any button once lights up the screen on my iPhone, showing what's playing, and a second push does the action. You don't need to power it on or wait every time you get in the car. It's ready to go immediately.

The Sony stereo in the VW remains paused by default when you start the car, while the Prius forces the phone to start playing when it starts. I found that just tapping the play button on the Bluetooth remote is the easiest way to get the music going in the VW.

Works Great for Motorcycle!...

I needed something just like this for my Harley. The handlebar clip fit on my 1.25" bars nice and snug. Very easy to operate controls wearing thin gloves. Not so sure about thick gloves. I have wired speakers in my helmet and run the wire down to my front pocket where I have a blue tooth transmitter/receiver. The Satechi controls the iphone music which sends a signal to the transmitter/receiver. I'll post an update after using it a while as there might be some drawbacks. But for now it seems great.

Exactly what I was looking for!.... 2017 Update...
by kat.strauch (5 out of 5 stars)

This is exactly what I was looking for! I drive several hours a week and listen to audiobooks to and from my destinations. I wanted a button that would allow me to pause, adjust the volume and to skip back to repeat a section. This does exactly what I wanted. The only drawback is it will not answer an incoming call, but that is not why I wanted it.

October 2017 update: When this device quit working I was stupidly lazy and tried to purchase a different replacement brand. I ended up returning it and taking this apart to replace the battery. Side note: because I left it in the car year round the bluetooth sync button got "stuck" and I couldn't re-sync to new devices. However, I lost the screw to the back of the device and can easily open it to pop it back out with a toothpick. The button holder keeps the backing and the battery in place so nothing is loose. I still consider this a five star purchase and if it ever dies completely, will replace it with the same product. A major benefit is that it automatically re-connects to your device after a couple clicks of the play/pause button once you are back in proximity. Other buttons require you to reconnect through phone settings which is not practical for me.

Works great, pairing button not in a good location
by Robert (4 out of 5 stars)

Purchased this for use in a Subaru BRZ that, while a great driver's car, has a very no frills cockpit that lacks steering wheel audio controls. Pairing it to my phone was no problem and they thoughtfully included double sided sticky tape in addition to the clamp ring for mounting, which I opted to use for the most ideal placement.

The issue arose when I got a new phone and had to re-pair it. I had to pry the tape off the wheel, which holds securely enough that I bent the battery door in the process, but thankfully not breaking it, so the button still works fine.

Using the clamp ring to attach it to the rim of a steering wheel is a non starter as it gets in the way when palming the wheel during parking/low speed turns and the steering wheel spokes on the BRZ are not the right shape to use the clip.

So, once I paired it to the new phone, I opted to clip it to the handbrake with the ring instead of retaping it to the steering wheel.

If the pairing button was on the side where it wouldn't have to be removed for re-pairing when adhesively mounted, it would be perfect, but I'm still very happy with the button.

Great except for one thing...
by Ghassan (4 out of 5 stars)

I have this mounted on my steering wheel of my car and couldn't feel safer than always having my eye on the road and the controls at my thumb... but the thing that's keeping me from giving it a 5 star is that my iPhone considers it a keyboard. So when I come to type out anything the iphone keyboard refuses to show up. Have to switch off the Bluetooth then on to get back the keyboard.

Build-wise, I've had this over 2 years now and it's still working fine just the occasional battery change.

So not sure if it's a bug from the media remote buttons or the iPhone software regarding the suppressed keyboard for inputting text.

Love using it for Track Control with Carplay
by PeteTechGuy (5 out of 5 stars)
October 11, 2018

Many cars either have no steering wheel, skip/prev track controls, or have controls that don't support CarPlay. (eg. Several new Mercedes, and others have steering wheel controls that don't support CarPlay, and my Porsche Panamera supports forward track or back track, but not both)

This means that with one of those cars, whenever you're using Maps and need to skip forward or back, You've got to leave maps in carplay, go to the audio app, tap the on screen skip controls until you find the right spot or track, and then return to maps. (Too much time with the eyes on the screen) Siri works for this, but IMO its too disruptive. I use the audible app all the time and this is a very big deal for me, since I very often need to skip back to catch something I missed.

I found a solution that works perfectly for me: Satechi Bluetooth Media Button, a bluetooth audio controller.

It's really working beautifully. It is battery operated, with no wiring to install, just that little button. The MFR claims the battery will last two years. You just pair it to your iPhone and you're done. They include a steering wheel attachment, if you want to go that way, and a non destructive sticky pad which you can use to attach it to any small flat surface (As in the Photo). It also has a pause button in the center, which is a nice plus, and works well when pausing any audio app I've tried.

You can use it entirely by feel without ever looking at it. Because it talks to your phone, rather than the car's head unit, it should work with any car, and any head unit. I'm using it with my iPhone XS Max.

Two minor imperfections to note:
1) In order to achieve their long battery life, it automatically goes to sleep after about 10 minutes. The next time you press ANY button on this remote it wakes up and reconnects with the phone. But that first click after it's sleeping will be ignored by the phone (for its intended purpose). Just wait about a second after that wake-up click, and its ready. At this point you can click as many times as you want, as quickly as you want, and every click works perfectly.
2) The volume doesn't work because this remote is controlling the iphone volume (as would any bluetooth controller), and CarPlay volume is totally independent of iPhone volume. We all have usable volume controls in the car so it's not an issue, but if you want to use this for adding CarPlay volume control to your steering wheel, this won't do it.

I have to say I'm delighted with little device.
