Keep looking..

I've been doing a lot of research for the 'best' alarm clock out there. Being a gadget guy this one seemed to fit the bill based on it's ads. I've been pretty disappointed going on 2 weeks of trying to adapt to it's 'features'.

PROS: looks good, not too large, Bluetooth works well, easy to read, love the light up wake feature, speaker quality is good for an alarm clock

CONS: the buttons are insensitive, slow and frustrating to use, if the volume comes in blaring loud you have to wait 3 secs before beginning your attempt at using the buttons to lower the volume, alarm only sounds for 1 minute (not adjustable) before auto snoozing for 10 minutes (not adjustable) REALLY!!?? , FM reception is pathetic (even with the AUX cable in)..I live in an urban area, have moved the unit even outside to test and still can only receive 2 stations. , the cost is extreme given the poor functionality of basic alarm clock functions. I would return this unit if I hadn't thrown out the box. Will probably delegate it to a guest room.

Romantic lighting at best, not for reading
by hovercraft (2 out of 5 stars)

I had high enough hopes for this that I spent more than I should have for a combo lamp/alarm radio. I read the reviews here and decided to try my luck.

My impressions:
* The others are right, the buttons are finicky and the controls are not super intuitive. However the manual that came with mine does a decent job of explaining.
* The build quality and packaging are top-notch.
* The design is sophisticated, and I liked the little on/off dongle.
* I didn't really test the alarm. The radio tunes OK if you plug in the audio cord as a de facto antenna but then it kind of looks crappy to have that dangling.
* DEAL-BREAKER: the light, even at maximum brightness, was not close to enough to be able to read by. It shines down from the top part into the "well" below and even on a white nightstand does not reflect much light outward. Romantic mood lighting at best.

Amazing and Frustrating Wrapped into One
by J. Punk (2 out of 5 stars)

This product was significantly reduced and I can see why. the good is that this product is feature rich and looks amazing. That said, it is near impossible to operate and I'm technologist. The ergonomics are just bad. The touch buttons have strange responses and you are asked to program too many functions with the limited button set. The instructions are incredibly poor and will leave you scratching your head... if you get that far! I've spent vast amounts of time with this product and still can't get some of the functions to work.... I'm looking at you Radio that works only under certain conditions! I did find it odd that a clock radio of this caliber didn't have a battery backup however although NOT specified anywhere that I can find, the unit appears to have a rechargeable battery and recovers from power failures with ease. This is a great feature but the lack of documentation around this is indicative of the whole experience with the product. The product has a light which can be adjusted from a color temperature perspective- nice! I will say that the clock itself is difficult to read at an angle so if you are using this on your bedside it will need to face you directly to read it. I do like that the unit has USB charging built in and the sound quality is excellent. If only one could figure the functions out or get the touch keys to do what they say. So here's a high quality product with great features that you will most likely find incredibly frustrating to use or take advantage of. Still if it's on sale- well you get much for your money!

Declutter The Nightstand...
by JP (5 out of 5 stars)
June 6, 2015

The Ivation GLOW does one very simple thing for me, declutters my nightstand. Prior to the Ivation Glow, I had a typical lamp, clock radio (though I never used the radio but needed the clock), a desktop USB charger for charging my phone, and so on. Needless to say, very crowded.

The Ivation Glow can do all of that, AND MORE, in a fraction of those other footprints combined. I like how the system is elevated, not only does it look good, but also puts the clock at a better height to see. Turing on the lamp is easy with the push tab, I can even do it in my sleep, and have. The Ivation glow features a USB charging port on the back, I have a short USB cable plugged in so I can connect my phone every night for charging, love that feature. The system features a speaker system inside, and can work with Bluetooth, and Aux-in audio (3.5mm Aux cable included). There is FM radio support and for those that wake up to local stations, this is an awesome feature to have.

I'm the type of person who can sleep through an alarm, but light is hard for me to ignore. I love that I can set the alarm with this lamp to gently wake me up with light, very cool. I can choose light only, light + sound, and sound only, in addition to alarm off.

Overall, the Ivation GLOW is truly the everything-in-one I needed to declutter my night stand. I love the little divot in the base so I can toss my glasses and watch in there to keep them where I can find them.

So disappointing!
by kahrabaiya (1 out of 5 stars)

I bought this during an after-Christmas sale and I'm glad I didn't pay full price because this is a piece of crap. The alarm has yet to go off, despite setting it anew every night. I looked up the complete instructions online and they had, maybe, one more instruction than the included quick guide and I still can't get the alarm to go off. The radio gets no signal, no matter which station I try to tune into or where in the house I try to catch the signal. The minimalist controls are attractive in a design sense but they always leave you wondering if you've programmed the thing correctly...or at all. Right now, I own an overpriced USB port, not a natural light alarm clock. Long story short, I can't return it...but I would if I could. I'll be on the hunt for a new one, but definitely not an Ivation product.

I thought this wasn't going to be a sturdy or durable clock but it's actually pretty awesome
by Meg Moro (5 out of 5 stars)

I thought this wasn't going to be a sturdy or durable clock but it's actually pretty awesome. I'm really happy I made the purchase. You can adjust the lamp color, from a warm (orange to light cream) to a cool (bright blue to a light sky blue) which I think is pretty awesome - mostly because when you set an alarm you can have the light wake you up and I choose to have the warm light wake me up with the alarm sound (which isn't a very annoying sound) the light that wakes you up almost feels like the sun is rising since it's a warm white light. It's also very simple you connect your phone to the speaker and play music, however, if you're standing in between your cell phone and the clock the signal weakens you also cannot walk far away from the clock at all, no more than 6-8 feet. Other than that I really enjoy the clock/lamp, it's sleek, modern, sturdy, durable and aesthetically pleasing. I highly recommend it.

Handy little unit but not a good lamp
by Megan D. (4 out of 5 stars)

All the reviews I read were about lack of instructions and the buttons, my thoughts are if you can figure out your way around an IPad you can figure out how to use this alarm clock. Pretty easy to use, buttons are a little quirky but easy to get used to. The one thing I was disappointed about was that the lamp part is more of a night light, not anything I would attempt to use for reading even at highest settings. A pleasant surprise was that it comes with adapters for use in other countries which is great since I will be taking it when we move overseas and buying another one for my husband.

Too much style, lacking substance
by ML (2 out of 5 stars)

You should consider this a bedside lamp first and a clock radio second. The aesthetics and lamp aspects are great but the alarm clock aspect of this product are dreadful. As mentioned in other reviews, but so incredibly relevant that I must re-state here, the buttons are fixed and don't provide feedback and there aren't enough of them so most things are doing double duty and require short press/long press distinction but given the design it is nearly impossible to get it right. It's just an intuitive nightmare. Additionally, I like to listen to music while going to sleep and the volume on this thing is just way too high at the lowest setting, almost comically so, and it disturbed my spouse to a degree that I could not use it. So if you're thinking "hey, the buttons might be tricky but how often am I going to have to face that" remember the music aspect of this product is also unusable as something to drift off to sleep by or wake up to (unless you like heart attack mornings).

This is headed to my guest room where it can look cool and not actually be relied upon to function.

The lamp looks great! The instructions were pretty easy

The lamp looks great! The instructions were pretty easy. The speakers is loud, it's sounds great. No damaging to box or anything. I'm satisfied with my purchase!

It was great, but has become unreliable
by Ruth P Hunter (2 out of 5 stars)
July 9, 2016

After not quite a year of using this alarm clock/lamp/speaker daily, the alarm has stopped being reliable. The first couple times, I thought I hadn't set it. Then I thought I had missed a step - turning it off and on again after resetting the alarm time. Then I thought I wasn't getting the switch to the right position. Now, I think it's just a buggy switch, because about once a week, the alarm just doesn't go off. Mine was already a replacement unit - the first unit I was shipped, the alarm just didn't work at all. So I'm giving up and getting a "regular" alarm clock again.

If the alarm was reliable, I would give it 4 stars - met or exceeded my needs, but still has rough edges. The lamp was decent ambient lighting, but is not what I would consider a good "reading light" lamp - it's a bit too soft and concentrates the light at the lamp base. It also won't light the whole room - good if you like getting up in "restful" conditions, not so good if you want to get up to full "bright sun" conditions. I think of as a "instant helper light so I can find the Sleep button". I liked the speaker well enough, but I only used the Bluetooth connection - the connection was "crackly" when I used the auxiliary input cord. (Might be a cord quality issue; I never bothered to investigate since the Bluetooth worked fine.) The controls are a bit tricky to get the hang of, and I did have to look up the online manual to finally master them, but mostly just required paying attention to the screen prompt & remembering which button toggles the function vs sets the selection. Muster your patience, because you need to "scroll" through the entire command sequence to finish setting the alarms. The scrolling is annoying, yes. But that's because you have a lot of options - two alarms to choose from, and lamp color, lamp brightness, alarm sound, and alarm volume for each. I *loved* the chime alarm sound - much better than a harsh buzzer, but still more "sit up and take notice" than "soothing nature sounds" or music (at least for me). And then a physical toggle switch to choose "off, sound only, sound + light, light only" - which I liked a lot better when I trusted that it actually toggled the electronics and not just the piece of plastic I moved. One final tidbit: if you use the Sleep button much, you might need to train yourself to hesitate just a second to make sure which button you're about to hit - the sleep button is one of several identical little buttons in a row.
