No Customer Supportby Amazon Customer (4 out of 5 stars)

This product was awesome for about 5 minutes until it lost its ability to connect to the internet. Now I am stuck with one light pattern forever. Reached out to support (Alex and Sean) two days ago and so far no response. I also reached out to Particle (the company that makes the computer/wifi chip in the L3D) and they are in the process of helping me reconnect the L3D to internet. Definitely returning this piece of junk if I can't get it to work again by the end of this weekend. Great concept - poor support and execution.
Update - though Particle's awesome customer support and a techie buddy, I was able to resolve the problem and the L3D Cube is now working as intended. Basically, I had to run the L3D in safe mode and flash another light pattern to it.That being said - Looking Glass still has not responded to my inquiries. Do not expect to get any customer service or support from these guys...
Love the hardware; downloadable content leaves much to be desired.

This product has a lot of great things about it - it's mesmerizing to watch and easy to put together. The connectivity via Wi-Fi promises a lot, but that seems to be it's biggest failure.
If you buy this under the impression there is a massive library of really amazing visualizations, prepare to be disappointed. At time of purchase, the site that offers downloadable content for the cube (cubetube.org) has about 15 decent visualizations and the rest are either duplicates or junk (like a single line that moves back and forth or a dot that runs through each LED. yawn.)
Can you program for it? Sure, but unless you know what you're doing, most of the code you can copy and modify just runs poorly at low frame rate.
Would I buy it again? Yes. But I wish I had done more research into the software side of things. The hardware is solid.

This is an outstanding piece of electronics, design, and engineering ingenuity. Compared to the time and price of DIY cubes you get a professional, well-polished product with minimal effort. The LEDs are bright and vibrant, the acrylic case actually adds to the aesthetic, and the wireless programming feature is handy.
As others have stated, a working knowledge of C is essential if you want to write your own code. It is ridiculous that people are bashing this product because they think they can write code without actually knowing how to code (I.e. I can't read Spanish, this book in Spanish is disappointing). I have written two animations and the difficulty level is similar to an Arduino. The coding framework is straightforward, although cubetube.org and the SparkPixel (3rd party hardware) in general could both use some improvement. Also the incompatibility of Neopixels and FastLED is an aggravation.
Cool idea, but WIFI reliance is its achilles heel.

The main selling point of this cube seems to also be it's biggest weakness. The wi-fi capability of this device is sketchy at best and downright unusable at worst. There's not any way, short of using command line instructions to do anything with this if it can't connect to Looking Glass' servers. The problem lies with the photon controller being able to connect to the Looking Glass' servers.
There's also problems with firmware compatibility with about a third of the visualizations listed on the cubetube site. To really make this product worth $380, they need to have a user-friendly way to download visualizations and flash via usb. The help available on the forum is not really there, and emailing the company doesn't get you much more than an explanation of what is wrong, and no way to fix the problem.
Very cool! Beautiful and impressive to look at, and programmable to boot!

Quick thoughts after opening the box: assembly actually isn't hard, but rather it's a little tedious (totally worth it in the end). Be certain to look at the front and back plexiglas pieces, as it's possible to build the case backwards (easy to disassemble and put back, but a pain in the butt). Lastly, finding the right way to plug the LED sticks into the top bars takes some finesse, they're flexible, but you don't want to bend them too far.
Once you put it together, it's a beautiful device! Really impressive to look at. Connecting to wifi and downloading programs from cubetube.org is a breeze; some are simple and others are really intricate. If you understand programming (or are willing to read comments and tweak things), it's even more powerful. I look forward to building some of my own, as well as exploring some cool ideas about integrating with other data sources for visualization.

I am giving this 2stars because it only comes with 4 short sample modes and the online setup to download more IS FAR TOO INVOLVED FOR THE AVERAGE JOE . For the price this should come preloaded with plenty of effects and be SIMPLE to add to .
Thing is fun, a bit silly

Thing is fun, a bit silly, cool and functioned as expected after assembly. I hope CubeTube gets more content, as there is a pretty steep learning curve to learn how to code well enough to actually program this thing.
The demo mode and existing submissions, however, are more than sufficient to make this a great centerpiece in my living room; it definitely can be beautiful and mesmerizing, especially when combined with some music.
Good or bad, depending on your ability

Good and bad depending on your ability...3 stars is an average.
I would give it 2 stars for those who are just end users who want to buy a 3D cube to have an awesome display. It is much easier to put together than other kits where you will have to bend and solder thousands of LED leads. This one just snaps together quickly. It takes very minor assembly skill, it is easier than making a model plane kit. The LEDs are bright and look nice. The problem is when you turn it on there are only 4 different patterns and one is a sound sensitive one (no sound and you get a boring blue square). It seems a lot of thought was made in making the hardware but the pre loaded software is anemic. Why not give us 30 minutes of patterns and pre-load it? You can go to their website and after jumping through some hoops to connect it online you can get more patterns. The problem is if you load one, you get that one on the cube, that's it. That pattern you loaded replaces the last pattern you loaded. They can't be added together to get a bunch, you can only do them one by one and you need to be online to do it.
I would give it 5 stars if you can program in C++. In that case you can do what you want.
In closing if you can code get it, it is awesome. If you can't code, pass, there just aren't enough patterns it displays out of the box and the online ones are just single patterns.
Highly recommended, a very cool toy

Took about 90 minutes to put together very carefully. Did include an extra strip in case you did break something, very helpful. Is absolutely gorgeous, though I tend to use the demos. Highly recommended, a very cool toy.

Was fun to assemble. I wish the programming interface was a little more non-programmer friendly but there are lots of animation sets available to DL.
