An absolute must have. Anybody who has a cast iron skillet should have one of these. A chain mail scrubber, such as this, makes cleaning my pan after use a joy. I found out a something I think everybody that might get one of these should know. You are going to need a place around your sink for this guy to live in. This thing really works! I have struggled with how to clean my cast iron for some time. I have tried several methods from steel wool, dish brush, dry sponge with salt in the pan, metal spatula to scrape, etc. no matter what I did the result was either the pan was too clean and needed to be reseasoned, or there was some leftover baked on food that wouldn't come off. Enter the Chainmail Cleaner!

This Viking looking apparatus is really the best cleaner for the skillet. It is tough enough to clean off the most stubborn leftover food particles and DOESN'T remove the seasoning. I seasoned both pans upon receiving this cleaner and started using the chainmail exclusively and now, 2 weeks later, my pans are more non-stick than ever and look just as clean as the day I seasoned them. For reference, I use my skillet 3-5 times per week.

My cleaning procedure is as follows:
1. While pan is hot (be careful not to burn yourself), fold the chainmail in half and scrub the pan like you are using a washcloth.
2. Run the cooking surface of the pan under HOT water to rinse it out.
3. Use the chainmail again if needed
4. Immediately dry out the pan
5. Put a little more oil in the pan and spread evenly with a paper towel (or spray it with nonstick spray).
6. Place back on the hot stove or in the hot oven for a few minutes to let the heat finish drying out any remaining water.

To clean the chainmail, I just run it under the faucet to rinse out any food particles then hang it up to dry.

What a surprisingly useful kitchen tool! I bought this for my cast iron, as recommended. Unlike steel wool or copper scrubbers, it does not fall apart and it's super easy to keep clean. It doesn't always get to the fine detail of a steel or copper scrubber, but it's close and I always start with this. The other great discovery? I drop this with some soapy water in our stainless water bottles and Hydro Flask thermal mugs, screw on the lids and swirl it around. Voila! All the stuck on crud from my husband's smoothies and all the coffee stains are gone. If for some reason, the chainmail doesn't get rid of it all, I add some baking soda and less water, and that does the trick. No more residual smells, either. Yay!

Never going back to a sponge and salt!

I've used this several times since I got it a week ago, but last night it really impressed me. I'd made chicken parmesan in my cast iron pan, baked it in pan, and then let the pan sit dry for about 24 hours before cleaning. This would normally result in a nightmare to scrub, but this scrubber made it a breeze. About 60 seconds of the chainmail and some elbow grease, and my pan was clean again. If it can remove dried-on Italian food that easily, I'm sold.

Great Scrubber Performance for Cheaper Price

Chain mail scrubbers are pretty much all the same. This is my second purchase, and quite frankly, the cheaper purchase. Price is not a factor in the performance of the scrubber. This made cleaning of my cast iron pan super easy, even with burnt on food.

Fill the pan with a little bit of water to help soak the stuck on food (dont actually soak it tho)

Scrub away (messes should come off in a matter of a few minutes)

Rinse and dry on the stove. problem solved

Note: I have traditionally used soap on my cast iron and have not had any problems with "ruining the seasoning nonsense". But this time I opted to try no soap and got the same results.

Hate to admit that I thought I turned stove down, but went other way. Burned those brussel sprouts to death. And the skillet, oh my. I thought it was a goner, then I remembered this scrubber. I am a beliver, it worked and worked quickly. From the skillet that I thought was destined for the trash to completely clean and looks great. There is no better.

We like cooking on cast iron

I bought this on a lightning deal around Christmas time. We like cooking on cast iron, but it is a pain to clean. If you use a sponge, it immediately has to be thrown into the trash, and paper towels rip and leave little bits all over it. This cleans off all the gunk in just a few seconds and then washes off just as quickly. It's a great little investment if you use cast iron skillets with any regularity.

I have been debating about trying these for a while, as I have seen many times these are the way to go when cleaning your cast iron pans. Boy, were they right!! I Love these!! No soap, just some hot water in your pan, and a little light scrubbing, its amazing how well these clean your cast iron and leave your pan seasoning intact. I only wish I would have ordered the next size up. Other than that, these are really great!

I was not too thrilled by this product. The rings are larger than I thought and makes it difficult to clean the cast iron grill pan we have. I also think the metal is taking off a bit of the finish on the pan. I would prefer to just use a stiff brush.

Cast Iron Cleaner

I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a way to scrub your hard to clean cast iron. This really allows you to remove food that may have been stuck on your pan while cooking, and doesn't scratch the pan or remove the seasoning. Mine has started to discolor a little bit, but that may have been due to the fact that I don't really dry mine off with a towel or anything before hanging it up. I use this with my cast iron cleaner and it makes my pans so nice. I love it
