Mixed Feelings on this one - Waste of Money? - Not as easy as it looks

If you are considering purchasing this on Amazon right now because you just watched a YouTube commercial where Marky-Mark's long lost cousin pretends that he's a mechanic while convincing you that all repair shops are crooked and this gimmick will save you thousands in car repairs - you might want to consider the real scoop first.

Pros: I can't say it doesn't work at all, because when I did finally get it to work, the diagnostic information is excellent and comprehensive (as can be seen from my screenshots below)

It is small and links via bluetooth so you don't have to hold a wired connection to your OBD-II port and it will actually work with the vehicle running and driving.

Cons: The application is TERRIBLE and inconsistent. Marky Mark glossed over that part in the commercial, and said he "already had it set up" so no one gets to see that part. It's just like any other bull$hit app where they want all your information, register, email, login, password, key code on the device, your cars VIN. And if you try to link up again and an error exists, you get to do it all AGAIN! (sometimes) Before you drop this $60, ask yourself "do I have time for all this AND then repair my car? This thing isn't a magic wand, you will still have to make your own DIY repairs. This device is accurate when you can get it to work, but the commercial draws parallels to selling snake oil - and I fell for it.

Product Did Not Work For Me

Following the instructions in the small FIXD leaflet, I installed the FIXD app on my smartphone, started my car's engine, opened the FIXD app, registered my name and email address and then entered the product registration code. Afterwards, I inserted the FIXD device into the connector slot below my car's dashboard. Then I proceeded with the FIXD instructions to select the FIXD device name from the results list. The bug occurred at this point where the software then returned me to register the product and device code again. I did, and the software kept going in a loop.

Contacted FIXD Support and although they were friendly, they did not have a solution to the problem and apologized. Therefore, I'm in the process of sending the FIXD back to Amazon and will search for a different brand.

Disabled airbag

I own a 2012 Chevy malibu.

I really like this. It's awesome and easy to use, I was able reset my check engine light with no problem. It does a a full diagnostic.

I gave it 3 stars because it would disable my passenger seat airbag if I left it connected while driving and that's a safety issue for me

It doesn't recognize all the codes... but of course you can pay to call for more information. Like it doesn't talk to the internet through your phone and could not retrieve this information like it says it will when you buy it. The fancy screen shown on the description page does nothing. Did not clear the engine light as advertised. Why your car does not tell you the codes these days is a racket in itself, this thing might be a decent idea if it worked as advertised but it simply does not and is mostly useful for mining you for more cash. How many people were paid to write reviews on this thing who knows.

Do NOT, I repeat do NOT buy this product. From the moment you open their App you are bombarded with add-on features, products, upgrades that clutter screens and make it almost impossible to use this app. Communication between the app and the device is also problematic--I had to unplug and plug the device multiple times to get the app to read the device. Although I was finally able to obtain a diagnostic code from my 2011 Jeep Wrangler; I cannot say with any certainty that the code I obtained is actually a valid code. With failed communications, cluttered/impossible to interpret screens this app/product is a complete failure. I would have given it zero stars if that were an option. Caveat Emptor. You have been warned. As a side note: the welcome email I received from the seller was full of grammatical errors--clearly an indication of how little this seller cares about its product or its customers.

Not what I expected

I wrote to FIXD because it did not display an obvious fault...

My (sic) has ABS issues, but the Fixd device says my vehicle has none. The ABS and traction lights are lit and the brakes pulsate occasionally. How can I trust a device that says my vehicle is fine when it's obviously not.

They replied...

Currently, FIXD is only able to read and clear your vehicles' check engine light. The other lights (TPMS, ABS, Airbag, Maintenance lights, Stability Control, etc) and issues are controlled by manufacturer-specific parameter identifiers, which makes it difficult for us to read this information through the OBD-II port. We are working on licensing this information from the manufacturers, but we have not finalized these deals yet.

I wasn't expecting it to pinpoint problems, but a false positive is no reassurance.

I can't get it to tell me what is wrong with my car. My car keeps stuttering when I try to start from a stop light but this thing keeps telling me that everything is OK with my car! How is everything OK with my car if my feels like its about to die in the middle of the road??!?!?!?! What a total and complete waste of money!

Great device. I have check engine light on. Already knew it was catalytic issue. When I plugged in device. It informed me that it is the catalytic converter and that it would cost $2000. Was able to clear it. Not repairing this item, and this device allows me to clear the check engine light. Now when the check engine light comes on, I will know exactly why it came on. This device tracks your battery, tires, and windshield wipers. Also, let's you know what maintenance is needed by your mileage. MY CAR IS A 2001 SUZUKI ESTEEM. Great Product for women to have, since mechanics love to rip off women.

Product does not work and support is terrible

I have a 2012 Hyundai Accent and their website said this product would work with my car--the website lied. I plugged it in and the blue light came on and started to blink. I tried to connect to it with my phone and tablet, neither worked. It could not read my vin number, then after entering it manually still would not connect. Their customer service was terrible and could only read off the instructions that I was sent in an email and came with the device. What was strange is that all the documentation said the device ID should begin with a CV, mine started with a CX. I tried many diagnostic things on my own, rebooting the phone, removing the device, reinstalling the app, moving to a different location, using wifi, using cell service. My service was fast enough, I measured 130Mbps from fast.com. I tried moving the phone and tablet to different locations, tried with the car running and just the key on. Tried their classic bluetooth mode. Tried a few other things too.

Stay away from this product. I generally do not write such strong reviews, but this company really aggravated me. I was promised a reply by email from their tech support, then a phone call. No one from that company even followed up with me. I'm returning their product and I hope no one has the misfortune to deal with them or their product.

Uninformative

Intrusive and uninformative! Sent it back and purchased another OBD for half the money that actually provides information. The FIXD syncs up to your cell's FIXD phone app that requires a login, your phone number and your location. Your car data is uploaded to their site and in the event your car throws an error code, it would alert you and recommend a mechanic (or I assume one may call). Bottom line, it didn't provide status on the monitors in my car (of which some of them were not "OK" status) and it records your driving habits..
