Packed With Features - Very High Quality

I recently got into Goal Zero stuff. Live in an area prone to hurricanes and wanted an alternate means of backup power and lighting besides a generator. Sometimes gas gets hard to get after a bad storm. I'm doing this review on the Goal Zero Lighthouse Mini Lantern that I recently purchased on Amazon. I was hesitant at first, as the price point seemed sort of high. When it arrived and I saw the quality and features, I changed my mind. It is small and stands around 4 inches high with legs folded up and 7 inches high standing on the legs. This provides 2 different heights and allows it to be compact for taking in a bugout bag. It has a dial for turning the light on and off and will operate with one or both sides lit and can be dimmed anywhere in between. In an emergency when dimmed, you are supposed to get 500 hours of light from the lowest dimmed setting, which I have not tried. The brightest setting puts out 210 lumens of light which adequately lights a room. It is powered by a 3000 mah battery which is exclusive to goal zero which runs around $14.95 which can be taken out of a port on the bottom of the lantern. It will also run from a USB port without the battery installed. It is charged via a USB cable which is conveniently stored on the light itself. It has a 1 amp USB port for an emergency charge to your phone. The lantern has 2 ways of being mounted besides the 2 leg positions for standing, it can be hung from a foldable hook on top of the lantern or affixed to a steel surface with the magnetic bottom of the lantern. There is also a plastic hanging arch on top for alternate hanging options. There is a 1/4 inch threaded hole on the bottom for screwing on a tripod. There is a lot of fine features packed into this lantern and it is of very high quality. It is one of those purchases that I do not regret and warranted this review.

Bright Engineering!

This review is for two brilliant products: the Lighthouse Mini and the Lighthouse Flash. I purchased both because I live in an area prone to occasional power outages that can last for several hours, so I wanted backup lighting that's bright, rechargeable, and reliable. On the first of these counts, I can say we're good. Since I've only had the products for two days, I haven't recharged them yet, so the second two counts are TBD. I'm feeling confident.

This order was delivered in blazing fast time: Not even a day passed between the eve I placed the order and the following afternoon when it arrived at my door. I don't know if this is due to Amazon or Goal Zero, but it's amazing!

Lighthouse Mini: Clearly a lot of thought and care went into R&D on this gem. I love its size, it's cool look, its weight, its many features and flexibility, its brightness and adjustability, the color temp (which I'd describe as "daylight" or midrange in the LED temp spectrum, like 3000k), and its rugged design (with the possible exception of the on/off switch, which is working well now but doesn't seem quite as rugged as the rest of it). In addition, it's nice that the battery is removable/replaceable (so that, for example, if you went backpacking you could bring a fully charged spare along). From top to bottom, I just keep finding more to appreciate about it. I used it last night for two hours to read myself to sleep in half-on mode and even slightly dimmed, and it was plenty bright. The opaque shade is wonderful because it keeps the intense LEDs from being too blinding. When I turned it off, all the blue charge lights were still on. So apparently, I got a live one!

Lighthouse Flash: Never have I seen a small flashlight this bright. I almost wish the sides were opaque like the shade on the Mini. But it's great to have a flashlight that can also function as a lantern. And as with the Mini, the design is well thought-out, with great features like the hanging clip being on top for use in lantern mode and its snapping securely back into place when not in use yet protruding slightly so that even with the clip retracted you could attach it to other gear. The switch is smartly designed to keep it watertight and recessed so that the light won't accidentally turn on while in your bag. As far as I can tell, the battery isn't replaceable, so I hope it holds many recharges for years to come.

Overall, I'm glad at this point that I came across Goal Zero products. For the quality, they seem reasonably priced. Of course, if I have anything to add, I'll try to update my review. (In fact, I already tried to do so, having originally submitted a review for only the Mini and then being unable to submit a second one for the Flash, but I had to start all over again due to a computer snafu or a new Amazon policy regarding review updates (not sure at this point).

Anyway, if you're on the fence about one of these items, my advice is just buy it, and happy trails!

Great product Goal Zero

I've only had this a few hours. Left it on to test the battery life. I'll purchase an additional one despite bad reviews. While testing its longevity I've been taking pictures of all my other rechargeable lanterns for Craigslist. This lantern is worth every penny and a 1/4th of the size. Now it's made me decide I want the micro lighthouse and the solar flashlight and their chain able setup as well if I can find it them. The power supply units I'm sure will follow. Great product Goal Zero. If the Goal is to zero out the other competition, Mission accomplished.

Super-well designed lantern and emergency power supply; a bit pricy but worth every penny

We have bought a couple of these and have given others as gifts. They are very hand as work lights as well as camping and emergency lanterns. The ability to charge your phone etc. off its USB port is terrific. We get power outages two or three times a year, so it is very comforting to have one or two of these close at hand.

The lantern can be mounted several ways, and I've used them all, including sticking them up with their magnet and mounting them on a camera tripod. It never would have occurred to me that so many options would actually be useful. And, if you have a little solar panel you can be in business indefinately.

Nicely designed solution for camping or emergencies

Great little lantern/battery pack. A friend of mine had one of these and should be its features. I just had to buy one. It's perfect for camping or leaving in the car we're having around in case of a power failure. I like to keep it charged; he can provide power for my cell phone when needed. Recommended.

Great little lantern.

Much smaller than I thought it would be. However, I do camping on my motorcycle and this is just the perfect size for packing in my saddlebags. Great for the inside of my tent. Don't need to turn it up full blast for adequate lighting in the tent. Seems to last quite a while.

Pretty good lantern

Nice little lantern. It gets plenty bright but you can also dim it down to just a glimmer. The one side only is a nice feature when you're walking or when you don't want the light shining directly at you. I also like the multitude of mounting capabilities. It has a folding hook, carabinier loop, strong magnet, and standard tripod mount. The replaceable battery is a plus, but unfortunately it's a relatively expensive proprietary goal zero battery. My only two complaints are #1 The dimming knob is very fidgety. When you try to turn it on low, it often clicks off. #2 I called goal zero and they said the lantern has zero weather resistance. A little bit of rain protection would have been nice, since it is an outdoor lantern. Other than that though, pretty nifty little lantern. Very compact. About the size of your average 12 oz. beverage can.

Great light, works well...if you don't mind the price it is a good LED light.

The lanterns work well and do exactly what they say they will. Nice stuff but over priced for a simple adjustable LED light. We would but more of these but will definitely look at some other options due to the price.

Compact size with a large light and battery life

This is a small but feels good quality. Tried to light up a room of avg size and yes! It does the job. Very compact, rechargeable.. long lasting battery. No need to wait for the power to go out, this is good for putting into car's first aid kit or emergency kit, travelling backpack and the likes. Happy with the purchase. A bit pricey to think about it but doesnt cause disappointment. You get what you paid for. If this thing goes on sale, i will get a bunch.

and the ability to swap out batteries is nice, even if the fact that they insist on ...

The mini-lantern is surprisingly bright, and the ability to swap out batteries is nice, even if the fact that they insist on a proprietary battery jacket prevents this from achieving 5 stars. Still, if you like Goal Zero products, this one will satisfy.
