PROS

build quality appears high

sleek looks

frost-free

quick connect

CONS

price?

all hoses will need adapters if plugging directly into sill-cock

no pressure adjustment at the spigot (wasn't a requirement for me, but something to consider for others)

They also sell a hose with a 'quick connect' end on it, so you can quick connect hoses together 'in the field' without having to return to the spigot -> http://amzn.to/28JP5E6

Great for tight spaces

When we bought our house, it had a standard outdoor hydrant on the back side of the house. Then we added a deck and the outlet of the outdoor faucet was so close to the top of the deck (within a couple of inches) that it was going to be useless...so we just removed it and plugged the old hole. Moving it higher would have been difficult as spot it came into our unfinished basement was within an inch of the maximum height it could be without hitting the floor above...and the floor above is our kitchen where there was absolutely no way to hide the plumbing for an outdoor hydrant.

Fast forward 12 years. I see this unit for sale and get to thinking, "that will fit in the hole I already have and will actually work because it doesn't need clearance underneath it!". Worth a shot, right?

I installed this last week end. The old hole needed enlarged to about 1 1/2" diameter to allow this unit to fit...but other than that it was just about plug-in-play. I used a short nipple, a 1/2 quarter turn indoor valve, and a 1/2" NPT to 3/4 CPVC adapter inside my basement to hook this into our home's existing CPVC cold water lines. Took me about 30 minutes to carefully plumb it and then I gave it another hour to make sure my CPVC glue dried before I repressurized the home's plumbing. No leaks.

Out on the deck, I now have a nice little outlet to plug a hose in which is located about 2 inches to the side of our spa and 2 inches above the deck surface. On initial hookup to a hose, I was disappointed by the water flow which just trickled out of the end of a 50 foot hose. Upon inspection, I saw that the backflow preventer, in the included hose adapter, was preventing about 95% of the expected water flow...so I unscrewed the hex shaped plug from the inlet side of the adapter and removed the plug, spring, and valve element and stuck them in a drawer. That gave me full flow from my hose. Not sure under what circumstances I would even need a backflow preventer....but I guess I'll reinstall it if I ever do.

In any case, the wife is thrilled because she was having to string a long hose around the house whenever we change water in the spa....and now she has water literally "right there" where she needs it.

These are excellent faucet replacements
by Duck Farm (5 out of 5 stars)

Existing frost-free faucets (traditional with a handle) broke. The internal parts had come loose or been turned so tight over the years that they just gave up. They were only 6 years old and I wanted something that didn't require a so much effort in getting water out of. These are a perfect replacement. I ordered the extra nozzle which has a lever on it to turn the water on/off. So, in summer months I can leave it on the faucet and just turn the lever. I've added 2 frost-free hydrants in the yard so we don't really use these as much but they are amazing when we do use them. I had ordered different sizes before I figured out that only the 6 inch would fit inside the wall. Even then it woudn't fit. I purchased a small wooden block from the box store, used as a fence post finial, to add an extra inch on the outside wall. I screwed this into the existing wall plate and then painted and sealed with caulk. Took about an hour for the whole installation.

Outside Spigot Solution.
by SSuth (5 out of 5 stars)

I have had a nagging problem with an outside spigot that we use constantly for watering plants. It is connected to a well so it doesn't waste water. However the 20 year old valve has leaked for about a year and started turning through its stop about a month ago. As It would happen I saw a review of your products on a TV show and loved the concept right away.

I use Amazon a lot and found the 6" Hydrant there and ordered it immediately. I finally got the time to install it yesterday and I love it! I had to alter the existing PVC configuration to accommodate the location in the well pump loop, which I could not change, but the install was very straight forward and works great. I ordered the 6" unit because the wall it would go through was just that thick. As it turned out I still needed to add an outside box because the hydrant overall is about 2.5" longer than six inches. The only draw back for me was that I couldn't get an Aquor outside Y splitter to add two hoses.

Sleek, tamper-proof outside faucet

Simple installation, just one hole. Sleek design with no outside handle to be tampered with. I am using it to clean the front of our building with a power washer. Was worried about the pedestrian traffic messing with the faucet.

Works great!

Keep your kids friends from turning on the water then walking away!

I saw this at the This Old House Tv show Rhode Island home walk through. I loved the idea and bought it, I did have my plumber install it. Works great when the other spigots go I'll change them with this!! The straight connector comes in the box. I hate when my kid's friends come and leave the outside faucet on, never again with this!

This is to cool. I have a log house and wanted my hose bib to be inconspicuous, painted the cover to match the logs and the best it could be. And it works great too.

Looks and works great.

I hate the look of a spigot hanging off the side of the house. It's just ugly.. This is just a blue disc and it works great. No leaks, no issues connecting and I am the only one that can use it. I live in Texas so the advantage of not freezing is low but we do freeze and it is great not having to worry about outside spigots.

Nicely done - where are the white ones?
by Dixie's Dad (4 out of 5 stars)

Nicely designed, nicely constructed -the 5 degree angle when mounted works great for draining the water out of the hydrant. Why is there no molded white cover and handle - probably the most common color on houses?
