Was excited to receive it. My excitement didn't add long at all as the charging port hole was not cut out. It's completely blocked! It didn't end there. The surface finish isn't very clean. Lots of fine saw dust and small slivers that I feel on touch.

I've owned this for approx 8 hours and just had to write a review. I needed something that I could put my laptop on and takes notes. This works great for that. If you have a MacBook Pro, the rubber grips on the bottom will not stop it from sliding off. I had to add some rubber grips on my laptop to prevent it from sliding off when I have it at an angle.

This lap desk looks and works as described. I would have given 5 stars except for the board weight and the cutout slot size. Lap desk is too heavy to use resting on your legs and is heavy to lift and move with computer. However, I love the way it is made with the air holes and especially like the blank side when you can place a mouse & mouse pad or papers, etc. Unfortunately, the cutout slot was 1/4" too narrow for my ipad and not wide enough for my iphone in it's case (would fit out of case, but a pain to remove), which was one of the main reasons I ordered the slate 2.0. I had hoped to use it resting on the arms of a chair, but it's slightly too narrow for my chairs. I use my board on a TV tray which is less than ideal, but at least I have room for a mouse and/or papers.

I bought a new laptop recently that was not as wide as my lap. Kind of a problem if there's not a table nearby, of course, so I embarked on a search for a good quality lap desk. My search on Amazon led me to this item, and after reading multiple positive reviews I decided to purchase it. It arrived well ahead of the estimated delivery date and has been in use daily since delivery at my home. It's wider than my lap, but not so wide as to be in the way. It has enough weight to stay in place, but it's not at all heavy, thanks to the ventilation holes. My Macbook sits stably atop the desk and is at a good viewing and typing height. This item is crafted from bamboo and is extremely well made. The slot for a phone or tablet is also welcome, but I have not yet had occasion to use this feature. I would buy this item again, without hesitation or reservation!

Bought this for my 12 year old son for Christmas. Opened it up to inspect it and loving how it looked I decided to test functionality. Put my laptop on the left, Ipad vertically in the tablet/phone groove on the right, and work papers on the open space with my phone on top. What a fantastic mobile office that fits comfortably on my lap! Great having both screens (laptop & tablet or phone) propped up in front of me. My son is going to love it. Quality is great, finish is super smooth - no rough spots or splinters but the wood has a natural "untreated" look. It's very streamlined and easy to store, but this thing looks so good, it fits right in with our décor so I'd have no problem keeping it handy. Now I'm going to have to get one for myself! Wish I could use his till mine comes but I don't want to spoil the surprise before Christmas. Maybe I can sneak it out after he goes to bed:)

The wood is pretty light but sturdy. The holes make it light and allow heat to escape. I have a little Surface Pro 4 though, and its vents aren't under the keyboard, so that doesn't matter, but they do let some air circulate so the board itself doesn't get warm on your legs. What it does do is leave little circle impressions on your legs if you wear shorts. :D I like the phone slot. It lets you keep your phone handy and easily see the display without feeling around for the phone. It has a hole in the bottom of the slot for your phone's power cord, too. This was a handy set up when I was traveling and using my phone as a hotspot for my computer. The only issue I had with it was that even though the Surface Pro 4 is small and light, it's actually kind of wide with the keyboard attached, It would topple off the Slate until I figured out to push the Slate back further and pull the Surface closer, so that the keyboard was slightly off the edge of the Slate in the front. Putting the Surface at an angle worked, too. It's quite well made. The surface of it was just the slightest bit rough, however, and I had my husband rub it down with some super fine sandpaper. It stood up to a lot of banging around on our vacation (yes, I had to do some work :/ ). It worked well in the car seat and in an arm chair. I don't think I'd recommend it for sitting in the middle of a couch, however; it may not be stable enough to keep everything from pitching over if, say, a rambunctious dog leapt up with you.

This is one well-crafted piece of bamboo, that's for sure. It's smooth and aesthetically pleasing. I've been using it almost daily for the past two weeks or so. I use it on the couch to surf the web and not so much for real work. I also use it as a kind of TV tray (that's why I got the bigger one even though I have a 13" laptop). My only complaint would be that it (and maybe your laptop) slides around if it's not set flat on your lap. Basically, you can only use it one position, unless you use a pillow or something to keep it in place (I do this when I sit on the couch with my legs crossed). Overall, I'd say it's closer to five stars if you're using it more for work and can sit in the same position for long periods. If you're a little more squirmy like me, it's a little less awesome but still really nice.

Had some back and forth discussions regarding the sizing of the two different versions with their 'Retail Correspondent', David S^, who was a great resource. The build of these products are top notch. One may consider this item too costly an investment, but an investment it is. It's for the Iron Chef of Laptop Users. I'm sure you can cook a book (or sear prime cuts) in an aluminum pie dish. No thanks, I'll stick with the iSkelter and sit my laptop, phone or tablet atop a perfect surface. You can keep the Farberware, we're talking All-Clad folks. This is has longevity, built right in. Craftsmanship is definitely important to iSkelter, as the product is flawless in every detail. Even at a lofty price, I think you're far better off with this. Considering other items on the market, save yourself from a $40 lap-mare, you'll end up shelling out for a replacement anyway. Try this. The difference between the 13"-15" and the 15"-17" model is negligible, but the extra inch or so can make all the difference for lapability and armchairability. Call or write them with your questions, they really do care.

Love it! Lightweight, beautiful, functional. No rough edges, everything is sanded perfectly. Very comfortable on my lap (I'm a 5'4" woman), fits my 13 inch macbook pro and notebook perfectly.
My one minor comment is that I shift around quite a bit when I sit, and some sort of ridge or surface that would prevent my notebook from sliding off would be very nice. I don't know how they can do that while keeping the smooth minimalist look of this lap desk, but I'm just putting it out there in case they are at work on version 3.0 :)

This is a great lapdesk for my Macbook Pro 15 inch - the wood is great, and the design and the quality is great. I use this everyday -- my laptop stays nice and cool. However, the finish to the wooden board is not very good -- the small needle-like wooden pieces are sticking out here and there, so occasionally my hand would rub over the wooden board as I am using the mouse and the needle-like wooden piece gets stuck on my finger. Not safe for anyone's fingers. I really hope Slate works on the finishing on the wood, so this doesn't happen to anyone else.

Build quality. 5/5, But, it's HUGE! I didn't expect it to be so big! (That's what she said) It really feels like I have a desk in my bed whenever I use it. There's a place for my phone, a spot for my laptop a place for my snacks, & a charging port hole. It's awesome. But here's the thing. It's almost like, I could have ordered the 13" version for my 15" laptop, there's just too much board! I tend to not use it because it's so big. I currently keep it in the living room, that way whenever I'm watching the news I can jump on my laptop and work at the same time. I'm seriously considering ordering a second one for my bedroom so I don't have to feel like I'm hauling a piece of furniture around. The board is solid wood so keep that in mind when ordering one for yourself!

I have always wanted a lapdesk to make working on my laptop easier, rather than using our old stand where I had to sit on the edge of my seat and not be comfortable. I did a lot of research and this one was what I thought would work best for me. I can carry this everywhere because it is a perfect size! This LapDesk is super smooth, and beautiful. The solid structure keeps my laptop from moving much when I am typing and so far, I have not felt any heat on my lap at all! There is ample room for my mouse. (my laptop is a little bigger than the one pictured). I can put my phone or iPad mini in the slot...
Truly, I am loving this LapDesk. Thank you for making a beautiful, perfect product!! I will definitely be using this for years to come!

This desk top is perfect! I often lay in bed working or catching up on Netflix and having my PowerBookPro, iPad mini, and iPhone perfectly arranged satisfies my OCD and makes communicating extremely convenient. Well made, well packaged and exceed my extremely high expectations. The build quality is superb and the design is incredibly functional. The venting on the laptop side of the desk has eliminated the need for the fan to run at top speed when I am watching a movie and playing minecraft! I used to use a bamboo cutting board but this is nothing short of remarkable. Be sure and order the correct size for your laptop.

I purchased this lapboard along with a wireless mouse and a compact Bluetooth keyboard for use with my Steam Link instead of buying a Corsair Lapdog, Roccat Sova, or Razer Turret and it's great! It's very light, comfortable, and sturdy on my lap with a generous mouse surface and plenty of space to accommodate a compact keyboard. I bought the version without the mouse pad and it still works great as a mouse surface.

This item is great. I'm left handed so I just turned my LapDesk over and reversed it and it still holds my laptop and mouse in place on the left side. I don't need the cell phone stand as my phone is in a thick case. I stays put also on the board flat or propped up.

Should have noticed this in the picture, surprised there were no other comments:
In order to place the laptop over the cooling vents, the desk will be significantly offset to your left, which might be ok to check email and shop online, but is not at all conduisive to actually doing work.
Update: Customer service contacted me to improve the product and improve review based on feedback.

This mobile desk works great. Quick positives: sturdy construction, smooth finish, looks sleek/contemporary, large enough for laptop and mouse/notepad,keeps hot laptop off my legs while working away from a standard desk. The only negative is it's slightly heavy due to being 100% wood, so it might be difficult to carry around in a backpack. I purchased this to work from my lawn chair and in the car, and it's great for that. I selected the 11-13" laptop size and am very happy with it.
