Product Description

"Enhance your smartphone photography with the Pictar Camera Grip for iPhone 4/4s/5/5s/5c/6/6s/SE from Miggo. This ergonomic grip features wheels and buttons that, when paired with the accompanying app, give you greater control over your photography and let you use your smartphone camera one handed, even with gloves. It works by emitting high-frequency sounds that are detected by the free Pictar app via the microphone, saving battery over other wireless methods of communication. The Pictar is coated with anti-slip material and comes with a wrist strap and a padded neoprene pouch."

Shutter: The Pictar's shutter, positioned for easy index finger access, can be used with gloves and has a "half-press" function, enabling you to lock focus and exposure while tracking a moving object. Zoom:A rotating zoom ring is located underneath the shutter button for one-handed access. If desired, the zoom ring can be reprogrammed to control other functions, such as flash or white balance. Exposure/ISO: The top right corner features an exposure compensation wheel, that lets you change exposure in 1/3 aperture steps. In fully manual mode, the exposure wheel changes ISO instead. Smart Wheel: In default mode, the smart wheel lets you select between seven preset modes: auto, portrait, landscape, sport, snow, selfie, and video. In advanced mode, it will switch between shutter priority, ISO priority, and fully manual. Selfie Button: By clicking the zoom ring, you can switch between front and rear cameras for self portraits. Like the zoom ring, the button is also reprogrammable. Virtual Wheel: The app's virtual wheel lets you control flash modes, shutter speed, ISO, and more. Tripod Mount: A 1/4"-20 tripod threaded hole lets you attach the Pictar to standard tripods and monopods. Cold Shoe: A cold shoe supporting up to 10.6 oz enables attachment of accessory lighting or microphones. Lens Ready:The Pictar only covers approximately 2/3 of your device, leaving it open for use with compatible attachment lenses.

I spent a lot of time with my Pictar
by iShrink (3 out of 5 stars)

I got very close to my Pictar- 6s combo on our trip to South Carolina for the eclipse, then South Africa and Rwanda for safaris. It took a bit to get used to the operations, which are different than iPhone's camera (although you can use two finger zoom in and out still). Like a typical SLR, the buttons and selectors are accessible to the hand that holds the device which operates in the right-hand universe. Here's the low down: The great: 1. The grip converts the iPhone from a dainty hope-I-don't-drop-the-thing, to a cord around the wrist, secure, comfortable device, well suited for the hand. One hand operation is easy. It's lighter than an SLR and the screen is as huge as your phone. 2. Construction is solid and adds function like the tripod and flash "ports". I'd trust these attachable mechanical parts of the hardware. The camera attaches very well. 3. Long life battery. The blue led indicator is always on,but it's been on now for 8 weeks and after 500 pictures shows no indication of weakness (unless some of the zoom problems reflect an underpowered source). The good 1. Pictar adds choices to the camera scheme. Easily choose macro, sports, landscape, ISO, selfie, manual, video and photo. It's not great though, because of serious lag and I wish my two favorites, video and photo were next to each other. On screen selection is possible but the way it's set up does not permit rapid selection like the standard camera allows. I missed shots because of this. The bad 1. The video "on" indicator is so small and hard to see in bright light, half this time I didn't know if I was turning it on or off. I missed the rhino charging at our jeep. Sometimes I look long shots of my pocket because I thought it was off or on when it was not. Although I'm not a manual photographer (just a snap shot guy), the exposure button has little value since it appears to me to be the same as the light adjustment accessible in edits, and on screen light and dark operations work just like they do on the iPhone camera app. It took a while to remember which adjuster was for exposure, and which was for video, selfie, ISO and the rest. One selector would have substantially shortened my learning curve. Combined with the serious lag, I spent too much time looking at settings than the wildlife. It also records Pictar operation sounds like the button press. The really ugly 1. The zoom was sometimes so unreliable. It didn't hold it's position, with sudden flicks in or out. When it dysfunctioned it

wait for improvements

I thought this would be a great idea to replace an actual camera as it is advertized "replace your DSLR".

Its got some short comings...I got the 7 Plus model and its pretty janky feeling in your hand. You have to anchor the exposed side anyway as this model phone is a bit too heavy for the grip on its own and when you do touch the exposed side, your finger burns off because the phone is too hot. Even after just 5 mins it was nearly too hot to touch.

The 'wheel' features also feel like they are going to fly off when you turn them with your thumb--made of cheap plastic and not secured tightly.

I love this idea and I think its on the right track but needs improvement.

For example, they don't mention that you cannot control the F stop (fixed on iphones) and there's no 'portrait' mode as it claims on the back of the box (which is now standard on the phone but the grip makes it unaccessable).

You're really in a rock and a hard place with any lighting accessories too because most of them are phone jack mount which no longer exists on this version of the phone. There is a cold shoe on the grip but it doesn't support any real weight and the phone alone already feels like it could flop out of the hand grip with out any attachments.

Would be totally worth it at a lower price.

The product is pretty very well designed and thought off and it gives you the feel of an actual DSLR camera. The thing I liked most is the maneuverability. The controls are very well placed. The front button can be made with better stops.

Unfortunately in have to say my iphone 7 plus heats up a lot when I use the app and the device, which is a very big concern. Can the manufacturer explain why? I have to speak to Apple though to see if it a unit failure

Great product. Wish battery was rechargeable.

Great product.

Only issue we found was why is the battery not a rechargeable kind. Battery is included but if it does it's really difficult to find. For the price the battery should be rechargeable.

Works well

Works well out of the box although a little slow in low light. It's pushing pocketability on my 7 plus and I have to say it's even uglier in real life than on the advertising. A sleeker design like a Leica T would be more in keeping with an iPhone, instead of the pseudo retro look. BUT, I knew that when I purchased and the most important thing is that it does make the iPhone operate much better as a camera. Feels plasticky but well built too.

It arrived a day early which is awesome, and very cute packaging. I've only had a day to play around and I believe it's stepping up my photography game, as I am somewhat of a lazy photographer not wanting to take my DLSR evewhere I go but always finding myself in situations where I wish I did bring it but now I can have the Pictar in my purse 24/7 and never miss a perfect shot super exited to exapand my photography skills

I like the product, however, when I tried using a lens on it, it did not work. I will have to spend some time to see if it will function with that small additional lens attached.

Works great with app etc but you need a really thin case and on iPhone 8 Plus you need one or its a loose fit. Does not work with iPhone SE, the app does but the phone is too small.
