Mostly neat but not a time saver

I had an open mind when purchasing this. I read reviews, saw some favorable and some not but thought I would give it a try. The one thing I will say about the roller is that it almost never dripped. This was a huge plus for me because it spared me from spreading out drop cloths. I use a long piece of cardboard against the baseboard as it is but it was a bit neater than other rollers. Notice I said "almost never" dripped. In between breaks I would empty the paint from the roller back into the can. I wrapped it in plastic and kept it in the fridge. When I went to fill it again, the remaining paint settled through the roller sponge and two things happened: 1) It put a really large glob of paint on the wall, which did then drip. 2) it prevented the roller from rolling. If I was quick, I could keep the paint from getting everywhere and eventually it began to roll. So as far as the mechanics of the roller, it's okay. The quality of coverage was not good. I have painted a lot of walls in my life and never have I had to do three complete coats. It's spotty and sparse and was not time efficient. Three coats look nice but it created an entire extra day of painting. When full, the roller can be heavy. The corner tool didn't work. It seems like this would be a really user friendly tool but I found it to leave uneven coverage and resorted to a sponge brush. The edger started off as a great tool and was really convenient to start with but it would scrape if not held at the most precise angle. Again the coverage was fair, at best. I ended up having to go over the areas I painted with a sponge brush to ensure thorough coverage. It wasn't worth the extra time needed and wasn't worth what I paid for it.

Pay attention on what you do, clean and use. Perfect.

After seeing other people's reviews, i decided to give this a shot. i was very skeptical. i have used it x3 times so far. Here are my notes with it.

Preparing - first time going through, was okay. Followed instructions.

It says no oil based paints FYI. I am not going to to oil based.

Also it says for those who complained, it got stuck or was too heavy. It quoted in the manual if paint is too thick and not coming out, to use some water. I did x7 room ceilings with this. Not once did it get stuck with me. I have other rooms to do now (walls).

Dripping - only once. when i filled up the 3rd time , with the angel it was sitting, you can see the paint starting to spew / sap out of the sponge roller near the bottom when sitting upright. i quickly moved this, and some paint got on the floor (easy clean up for me though). and it dripped once, which was kind of my fault to begin with, this is a small flaw, but honestly, not a huge complaint to me.

Like i said, i got done x7 rooms with ceilings (almost the whole house here). x3 upstairs, x3 downstairs and a hallway. All within x2 hours. this was the edges, trimming and ceiling. I was VERY impressed with the trimming. Perfect corners. Started to get messy after 4-5th fill, but that was the way i set it down on the plastic and paint go on the one side ( i tend to be messy with paint).

Cleaning.

DO NOT USE PAINT THINNER. ONLY USE WATER

I say this because the adhesive that the foam is on the brush in the corners WILL Come off when paint thinner is used. i have used some on the edger and was upset afterwards, but understood because it was a heavy duty a thinner.

Heavy? eh - grow up and start doing some push ups, yes its a bit heavy after a little bit, but honestly, didnt bother me.

Over all - def worth the cost. for how much i got done, what i used, and how much paint it saved me and time. I should have boiught this awhile ago.

now i wonder if there are separate parts you can buy without buying the whole kit?

Only so-so for now.

So far, I am not very pleased with the results. I tried using it on a door. Maybe it has to do with using it pointing down, but the coat was very spotty so I ended up using a brush. The corner tool is great. It handled the edges of the panels on the door perfectly. Clean up is only so so. I ran water over and in it for a prolonged period of time. Even when the water ran clear, there was still paint residue on the towel I used for drying.

Love it! Must buy!

I have been doing DIY home projects for years. I have bought and sold many homes for a substantial profit. Nothing looks worse than a sloppy paint job! Our new home has carpet upstairs and I was absolutely dreading painting it. I don't always have time to finish a room in a day week or even a month lol. The roller kept the paint perfectly sealed ( I would zip it sealed tight in a double ziplock back when done) and it did a fantastic job I was able to finish my bedroom in two days really taking my time it normally would of taken a month by the time I draped properly and redipped. Not a single drop on the floor. My only tip is you do need to drape the floor where you poor it into the roller and immediately start painting the wall nearest!!! The paint starts seeping out quickly you won't make it across the room until you start rolling a bit out onto the walk in front of the draped area. That one area was painted a few times but no big deal I only had to reload I think 3 times and I had to do a double coat on a very large room. I have bought another already for a friend. Won't paint without it!

Big time saver!

Despite all the negative reviews, I bought it anyway. This thing workers great and it is a time saver!

I didn't even use the drop cloth, I am going to return them.

If you use it correctly, it won't spill or drip. This is what I learned:
1. After new paint is filled, snap the cap tightly and lay it horizontally on the tray. (if you leave it stand vertically, gravity will pull the paint out of the roller, which happened to me once.)
2. When applying the paint, hold it steadily and apply gentle but firm pressure moving it up and down, make sure it is held horizontally.

I don't find the edger working that well. The only thing I used was the roller, that was the main thing I need.

Since I painted it over an old satin paint, I had to roll it up to 4 times for the old color to be completely covered.

I still use my old brush to cut the edge. I use Benjamin Moore premium paint so it didn't drip.

Do not waste your money
by Amazon Customer (1 out of 5 stars)

Do not waste your money. You should stick to a regular roller and paint brush. This item doesn't apply paint smoothly, coat a wall well at all and is a total mess using edging tools. The rolls aren't a good quality so the paint doesn't go on evenly. I threw mine away after trying to paint 1wall because it took an hour just to partially paint it. And I was using sherwin Williams top of the line paint.

Use bottle brush to clean.

If you're going to use this, I recommend reading the instructions which include a how-to on cleaning it properly. This has been a time saver for sure. I'd recommend also buying a cheap bottle brush to help clean the inside of the roller and prolong the life of it. So far, very happy with the results and ease of use.

This roller was awesome when I used it the first couple times
by ian r. (3 out of 5 stars)

This roller was awesome when I used it the first couple times. It definitely saved me a ton of time and worked as advertised. Cleaning it is an absolute nightmare. It seems like you can never get it fully cleaned and I followed all of the instructions to the T. After pintinf two rooms I could not get the paint to flow out of the roller like it had for the first two rooms. I started pushing harder on the wall and yep, you guessed it the cap pops off and paint fly's everywhere. Needless to say I was done with it at that point. If these were cheaper I would say buy a few and use them for a couple of rooms. If you plan on painting your entire home or using it for more than 2-3 days it ain't gonna happen.

Too Heavy
by Blynn (1 out of 5 stars)
November 12, 2017

I think it's too heavy with the paint which made me go slower. I was painting overhead. I'm going to try it again on inside. If it works well then I'll change my review.
2ND review- My review is not changing. I have tried on the inside and only filled it half way. It was still too heavy and the roller would hang up. I think it's quicker to just use a regular roller.
