Product Description
One of the most decorated knives of all time is back. The Snap Lock held the knife world in rapture when it won the Most Innovative Knife Award at the 2004 Blade Show. We’re breathing new life into this unique everyday carry folder. If you think that it might be all show and no substance, spend a mere minute with it and you’ll do a 180° swing yourself. To open, simply press the front cam lever mechanism down with your thumb and rotate the blade outward until it fully extends and securely clicks into place. To close the knife, press down on the cam lever to disengage then swing the blade back into the closed position. Once the blade is in the closed position, no part of the edge is exposed and the knife is secure to carry. From his shop in Abingdon, Virginia, Ed Van Hoy dreamed up this historical design. It’s not only one of the most unique knives on the market, but it’s one of the most useful—it features a money clip, and is remarkably low profile so it’s never a burden to have on hand. The stainless steel blade has a subtle drop point shape. When closed, the matching wishbone frame is a 100% effective blade edge guard. The unique open mechanism becomes instantly intuitive once you push down on the front cam lever then rotate the blade outwards for a full 180°. The handle features a one position pocket clip for convenient carry. This knife made history, get your hands on a piece of Ed’s leg-acy with the Snap Lock reissue.Specifications:Blade Length: 2.554" (64.87 mm)Edge: PlainSteel: 420J2Blade Finish: Bead BlastBlade Thickness: 0.124" (3.15 mm)Grind: HollowClosed Length: 4.207" (106.86 mm)Open Length: 6.250" (158.75 mm)Weight: 2.5 oz (70.87g)Handle: 420J2Style: Folding Knife with Snap LockFeatures

Revival of an old favorite.by Luke (5 out of 5 stars)

Note on the pictures, the 2004 production knife is on top or right, therefore the 2018 knife is bottom or left.
Revival of an old favorite! First off, the knife comes sharpened with a very, very, very sharp microbevel (microbevels are and industry standard for production knives as Scandi grinds or full flat grinds are too difficult to QA/QC on large scale productions, Bark River might be the exception). Moving on, I had a couple of these knives about 10-12 years ago during a previous production run and loved them. I lost one and gave the other to my wife (she still uses it as her edc). You can sometimes find originals on eBay, but they are never cheep. This new run is slightly different than the original, and I think it is just as good, if not better. The knife itself is a little thinner and the coating is a little darker than the original. The thickness provides more comfortable pocketability, while the color is purely aesthetic. CRKT doesn't normally use high end/exotic steel with their knives, and this knife is no exception. It is stainless steel with reasonable hardness 50-52 (which is actually kinda soft/elastic compared to blades), but that is what you want with an everyday working knife. Elmax or CPM3V with HR ratings of 57-59 are great for fixed blades or expensive folders, but how many people would buy this knife if it were priced at 5x the current price and was a pain to sharpen. Probably not as many.
In conclusion, great revival with a few useful updates.
Thanks, and be safe.
about the 3rd time you sharpen a carpenters pencil half the edge will be rolled over and be dull eno

Design is incredible
Function is flawless
Once you get used to open/closing it you'll be addicted.
HOWEVER:
Same as other flipper I bought (which I also adore) it is, in the end, a knife. The pivot area and lock show no sign of wear even with excessive use but the knife (knives) have the softest edge I've ever seen. Literally, about the 3rd time you sharpen a carpenters pencil half the edge will be rolled over and be dull enough to lend to your toddler. Sad because I am so into this design it's scary. All the stars are for the designer (you my friend are a rock star). The lack of stars is for CRKT letting this one slip past. Still love CRKT, they've put out a ton of great designs and will still buy they're stuff. Just a little sad I got 2 different knives in a row with the same problem. Hose quality control down with cold water, wake them up, and put your game faces back on dudes (rally caps on).
A Fine Novelty Usable Sharp Blade

It is a nice novelty item that also contains a CRKT sharp knife on it! What could be better? A two-for-one deal! I'll only give it four, because I do not want this to be my only knife. It's more like you pull it out and nobody has one but you. All your friends only have their Zero Tolerance s35v, and Spyderco S30V steel blades and junk like that there, ESEE fixed blades, and Morakniv sandvik grind high carbon blades...ah...HAH! But none of theirs flips out of the handle and turns 180 degrees on its axis to lock into place!
Great light duty EDC

This is a great little knife for the price. It is small enough to be compact and large enough to be useful at a 2.5 inch blade length, It came shaving sharp from the factory and so far in 4 months worth of light daily use for cutting boxes etc, I have still not had to sharpen it. It fits nicely in a jean pocket and has a super slim profile so you forget its even there except when you need it which I really like. Its super light too which is also nice. Its fun to open and close (making a satisfying "snap" sound) and people notice it both for its unique manner of opening and it's skeletal/steampunkish styling. The large brass bushing inside of the cam gives a nice little pop of color too. If you are looking for a very affordable light duty knife that is both fun, stylish and functional, this is a great option.
There is only one con I can find about it, and that is while the blade is locked from side to side play very securely I am not sure of the strength of the pins it pivots on and the flexibility of the frame if you were to bear down really hard on the handle while cutting I suspect you might be able to dislodge the blade from the handle, but it would take some pretty serious pressure which this is not a knife for heavy tasks, so if you break it doing that, you probably should be using a heavy duty knife.
making it easy to sharpen but also prone having to be resharpened ...

The CRKT snap lock is an interesting addition to any collection. The blade is made of 420J2 steel, making it easy to sharpen but also prone having to be resharpened (This is not as much as a problem as one would think). It is also important to note that 420J2 is also incredibly resistant to corrosion. CRKT ships out the knife with a pretty sharp factory edge. The main attraction of this knife is the mechanism. The mechanism takes time to get used to and will probably end up leaving one with small cut when first learning how to operate it (the knife is so sharp that any light cuts given by handling the mechanism will not hurt). The closest thing to a complaint I have with this knife is how the pocket clip rests in the right pocket. However, this can be remedied by moving the clip to the other side.
Dangerous knife!

This is a neat looking knife. My belief is that the designer was trying to appeal to the SteamPunk crowd because it has all of those elements. It is scary Sharp right out of the box
So with that said I wish that I had not bought it. It is a dangerous and impractical knife! Almost impossible to open two handed but that is managed with one hand after practice. Almost all of us has cut ourselves with a knife. But none of us has cut ourselves with every knife we own. I firmly believe that every one of us owning this knife will be cut by it. The opening design is dangerous!
The openness of the knife and pocket clip will wear your pocket lining after little time.Mine is in the case and will stay there. Wish that I had not bought it.
This thing is so f'ing cool! I'm really enjoying opening and closing it

This thing is so f'ing cool! I'm really enjoying opening and closing it, and I'm sure it will be a hit with the people I work with. I usually run my thumb over the blade of a new knife just to see how fine the edge is, and this one was the first to actually draw blood so it's sharp as f---. When locked, it feels solid, doesn't wobble. The only complaint I have, and a very minor one at that is the clip is a little low, so when clipped to my pocket, part of the blade is showing. Usually I like to make a comparison to another knife I own, but this one is just so unique. It's on most sites when you google most interesting pocket knives, and many other knives on those sites are impossible to find anymore so get it while you still can. I have several CRKT knives and all of them have exceeded my expectations. Even if they are manufactured in China, they use quality steels and you really get a good knife for the money.
Definately a folder with cool factor.

It is of the level of quality would would expect from CRKT.
I have a thing for all metal knives...and while i dont think the sideways folding mechanism will become the norm anytime soon...it's just cool as a gentlemens folder. it's a great conversation piece when the guys see it. they like to try and "figure it out".
It is possible to do one-handed operation with it...but I would suggest taking care while learning to.
Not QUITE nagical

I LOVE complicated-yet-elegant engineering.
The snap lock knives certainly qualify! I've owned a smaller version of this knife for years, and adore it. When I saw that the larger brother was back in production, well, I had to have one!
It's the same odd locking mechanism no that I love, writ a bit larger. Unfortunately, being larger, it's harder to manipulate with one hand, so is less 'magical' than its smaller cousin.
I still REALLY like it, though!
Cool knife, not too practical
by Steven Szat (3 out of 5 stars)

This knife looks pretty cool but I have never carried it or used it. I don't use it because it is too difficult and potentially dangerous to open. The way the opening mechanism works is it bends the metal frame back to allow it to rotate into the open position. This means it requires a decent amount of force to open the knife. It is also easy to cut yourself in this process. This also depleted the coolness factor since I was hoping to easily flip it open but it does not. Overall it is cool but not practical to carry everyday
