Mosquito Bits To Kill Plant Gnats...
by Sue (5 out of 5 stars)
September 25, 2017

I had a gnat problem thanks to Miracle Grow soil, which infected over $300 of new cacti and new planters that I spent hours shopping for and putting together. A week or so later, my house was swarming with fungus gnats! Mosquito Bits was recommended by the local nursery (who did not sell the infected soil to me). I called Summit, the manufacturer and had a great conversation with a gentleman there. He instructed me of a better way to use the product, since the product is new and was just named for killing gnats, and they don't have all the labeling complete yet. I dissolved 2+ Tbsp in half a gallon of water for about 20 minutes, strained the bits out and watered the plants with the solution. After several waterings, the gnats were gone. This product is a natural biotoxin which will not harm humans, pets, bees or birds, which is important, because I have a parrot and I take no chances with his safety. I hope this was helpful.

5 days in and so far so good!
by Alan (5 out of 5 stars)

I spread this stuff around 5 days ago (in potted plants, low spots in the yard, bottoms of gutter spouts, patches of mulch that retain water, and 5 red Solo cups stapled to the fence filled with water per another user's suggestion) and today I'm enjoying a nice, cold beer on the deck and I have only seen one mosquito who wandered away from me in a daze, looking for his Hell-spawn brethren. I used to light a seance circle of Citronella candles and slather myself in bug spray...but now? Peace and tranquility.

I've set up calendar reminders through September to do bi-weekly applications... I'll see if that's the right interval for me as it is for others. The jug will probably last me at least 3 summers. I'm a changed man.

Love it, Love

These work. I think everyone in mosquito climates should use these. It's unfortunate that they put the warning on the label about pets. This product does not hurt wild-life/ pets. Go to their website and read all the Q and A's about this product. I use this all year in New Orleans because it's subtropical and we get a lot of rain and a lot of mosquitoes. Love it, Love ,Love it! I use it in all the spots water pools in my yard and in buckets with plants growing roots and my bird baths, etc. I'm outside a lot and I personally attract mosquitoes...if there are 10 people outside and one mosquito, it will bite ME 10 times. So I use this and it makes a huge difference. I have watched mosquito larvae in buckets squirming, and come back after putting this in the water and they are dead. I wish everyone would use this organic mosquito control instead of begging the city to spray.

For my potted patio plants.....
by Miss Bailey (5 out of 5 stars)

I don't have any standing water but what I do have is potted plants out on my patio. They're well drained and they are elevated up off the concrete but I still get mosquitoes and this stuff does the trick. I just sprinkle some on top of the potted plants and the mosquitoes disappear within 24 hours. I treat every month from May to October to keep them at bay.

I put this product out and in two days my four month old puppy went from full of life to deceased. Vet said cause of death is believed to be poisoning.

Great for Pond in a Pot
by K. Chan (5 out of 5 stars)
May 8, 2017

Pinterest, with all of it's amazing crafty people photo postings, has done it again. This month I was seduced by the idea of upgrading my bird fountain idea to a full blown half whiskey barrel pond in a pot complete with fish, water plants, and a solar fountain. While my little backyard oasis is relaxing, the idea of mosquitoes is not, and goldfish and Rosy Cherry Minnows are not guaranteed to eat mosquito larvae fast enough. Also, my solar fountain unfortunately does not run at night, when mosquitoes are most active. The Mosquito Bits seem to be keeping those little buggers away. Because I have such a small pond set up, I drop in only a few granules into my little pond once a week. The granules don't seem to be affecting my fish or plants at all, and I haven't noticed any mosquito activity going on which is a HUGE plus in my book. Overall, this stuff seems to be keeping the mosquitoes from setting up shop in my yard, and I'm still able to enjoy my Pinterest worthy Pond in a Pot. With the size I purchased, I'm going to have more than enough bait to keep mosquitoes out of my yard for years to come.

Dunks work long, Bits work fast on those flying vampires
by TexasFella (5 out of 5 stars)
April 12, 2018

This is a review of both Summit Mosquito Bits and Summit Mosquito Dunks. I have used Summit Mosquito Dunks for many years. I have a 20,000 gallon metal (Australian) rainwater tank, common in rural central Texas. After a long talk with a specialist at Summit and his assurance that their product was safe for home water use, and probably would be even if I did not have extensive post-tank filtering and UV light (which I do), I tried the Dunks and they effectively eliminated mosquito larvae (and thus future mosquitoes) in a few days, and worked for many weeks. Hard to know exactly how long they worked, because my mosquito problem is periodic, not frequent. A few days ago, noticing mosquitoes around the property, and having forgotten to put new Dunks in my tank for a long time, I looked in the tank and discovered a zillion mosquito larvae wiggling around, soon to be hungry bloodsucking mosquitoes. (My blood!) I tossed in Dunks, but ordered the Mosquito Bits on one-day delivery. Tossed some of that in around noon yesterday; not much because I wanted to try it cautiously at first. When I looked again at noon today, no wigglers; The dead larvae had floated to the top, clustered around floating Bits. Summit claims the Bits are faster, the Dunks last longer. I plan to continue using the Dunks on a regular basis as prevention, but keeping Bits handy for fast action if needed. I buy the 20 pack of Dunks because I have a 20,000 gallon tank. Using about four at a time does the job. I bought the 30 oz. Bits container, and used a tiny fraction of that so far, so I expect it to last a good while also.

Perfect for fungus gnats (but be patient)
by Nancy Grace (5 out of 5 stars)
September 10, 2018

This has been a life saver. We have a wet area where our AC condensation pools and a few granules of this will keep mosquitos away. You can also use it in bird baths (just make sure you're using the proper amount) but the regular mosquito dunks are easier to remove so you can clean out the bird bath.

But fungus gnats...

They're the worst. No matter what I do, all of the preventative methods available only delay the infestation. I have a variety of indoor plants (mostly herbs) that were constantly being infested by these gnats, and even products like gnatrol didn't work. I think what's needed is a consistent presence of the BT bacteria in order to stop the life cycle, at least in my warm climate.

If you're planting/transplanting, place a few granules at the bottom of the planting hole. For existing plants, put a few granules in the top soil and scratch them into the surface. You can use a skewer or chop stick to make small holes so the product is closer to the roots (where the gnat larvae likes to hang out and snack on your plants). I also put a few in the pot's saucer. If you already have an infestation, you'll need to keep using other methods (neem oil, insecticidal soap, electronic fly swatter which is super fun by the way) to treat the adult fungus gnats, while the BT makes its way through the soil and the roots. For self-watering planters, put a few granules in the reservoir. I have a couple of these and they seemed to rid themselves of the fungus gnats faster than my regular pots.

I've eaten the herbs that have been exposed to this product and have no complaints.

THE LABEL ON THIS PRODUCT CLEARLY STATES IT IS POTENTIALLY FATAL TO HUMANS AND WILDLIFE. NOT FOR AMA
by caveat (1 out of 5 stars)
June 8, 2018

This product is potentiallyTOXIC to the environment and is NON-RETURNABLE, which is not stated in the product listing. The instructions on this product clearly state that if inhaled it can stop people breathing. Nor is it safe for use anywhere it will come into contact with wildlife or the water table. In my opinion it should not be sold to anyone except professionals who will read, understand & follow the instructions, and- perhaps most importantly- dispose of it safely. I was advised to bury it in my garden if I didn't want it!

I was eventually (after more than an hour on the chat line) given an address where I was told a 'sorting team' would pass the product (returned at my expense) to a 'disposal team' who would know how to deal with it safely: 172 Trade Street Lexington, KY 40511 USA. I do not think amazon should b selling this product. I think if they do continue to sell it, they should be willing to accept returns ( they are the vendor, after all, not the company who makes it) with a guarantee of safe disposal in accordance with state and federal legislation for disposal of toxic/poinsonous substances. If you do return this, I would suggest sending it recorded delivery and/or including a warning as to the dangers it poses.

The reviews were right.

Followed the advice of a previous review and placed the granules in a solo cup with some water and rocks to weigh down. Placed the cups behind planters around our yard the night before a November BBQ here in Glendale,AZ. We have the same BBQ every November and I usually burn Off Candels and have bottles of spray for our guests. Not one guest asked for spray and I didn't have to turn on the candles. Not a single mosquito bothered us! Will purchase again.
