I tried to like it ... I really did. :(by MountainNurse,BSN (2 out of 5 stars)

In turning the basement into a home theater, I thought this would be the perfect addition. I had imagined sticking some hotdogs on the rollers and having them warm up while watching TV, and everyone just helping themselves if/when they were hungry.
That's how the dream went, anyway. Let me tell you about the reality.
I received the box and couldn't wait. I opened it up, put it together and took it downstairs immediately. The two (generous) stars are for ease of intuitive assembly, and the way it looked. It felt incredibly cheap, but I brushed that off, and consoled myself with the fact that it would be easy to clean.
I opened up the manual and it said to heat on Maximum intensity setting for three minutes, then put the dogs on and warm up. Once they were warm, to then turn the heat intensity dial down somewhere between Max and Low to "maintain" the heat level. Sounding simple enough, I plugged it in, turned it on Max, and set a kitchen timer for three minutes.
Once the timer went off, I placed two hotdogs on the rollers, placed two buns in the bun warmer, set the kitchen timer for ten minutes, and excited, resumed watching TV.
Ten minutes on the timer, I ran over to check on them, and was dissapointed that they were lukewarm at best. Undaunted, I reset timer for an additional ten minutes more, and once again, resumed watching TV. Ten minutes later (a full twenty minutes later--who needs twenty minutes to warm up two hotdogs?!?), they were "warm," not hot, and figuring this was the best I was going to get, I turned the intensity dial down to approximately midway and set my timer for 15 minutes.
Once the timer went off, I walked over to the machine, and the first thing I noticed was that they were cold. Not lukewarm--cold, as if they hadn't been warmed up at all. I touched the rollers with my bare hand, and they, too were cold. Keep in mind, this wasn't on "Low," but halfway between "Low" and "Max." In other words, (to spell it out), the "intensity" button ... a JOKE. There is no such thing. It makes the front of the machine look better, but that's all. There is no real functionality.
Next, I went to retrieve the buns in the alleged, "bun warmer" ... another JOKE. There IS no "bun warmer," it's as I suspected--just an area above the rollers that again, looks good, but has no function except to harden your buns. To be fair, the manual said to put them in foil so they wouldn't get hard, but that just tells me that they acknowledge that your buns will NOT warm up there because in order for them to do so, the machine must emit either steam or alot of heat, and it couldn't even warm the hotdogs.
Disappointed, but not ready to give up on it yet, I took the dogs and put them in a paper hotdog boat, turned the "intensity dial" 😒 back to "Max" and set the timer again. Three more minutes pass, I stick the hotdogs back on the rollers for round two, since the purpose of me buying the machine was basically I had wanted to be able to keep them warm for a couple of hours anyway for if/when someone was hungry.
Reset timer for two hours so I could binge watch TV without forgetting.
Two hours later, I went expectantly over to the machine, as the smell of hot dogs had whetted my appetite. To my horror, they were there, as black as two pieces of charred wood. Now, I've eaten my fair share of charred dogs off the grill or on sticks around a campfire, and even though black with char, the outer skin was a bit thick and chewy but still good.
Not these!
Picking up the dogs, they were literally inedible because they were as hard as bricks. If you threw them at someone, they'd be considered a deadly weapon.
So...let's recap.
1) "Bun warmer" ... a joke. They just utilized wasted space and named it that because it looked cute and sounded cool and helps sell women on the whole idea.
2) "Intensity dial" ... Another joke. Once machine is off the max level, the heat turns off. IOW, you can't keep dogs warm for a couple of hours like the professional machines do.
3) Using the "Max" setting for at least 30-45 minutes to warm up a dog BEFORE it burns it into a hard brick-like, inedible texture is the ONLY option you're left with.
And that's plain ludicrous. I can put the dogs in a paper hotdog boat, stick in the microwave for 1 minute, remove them, put the buns in for 15-20 seconds ... and in as little as one minute, twenty seconds, I've got a great hotdog: hot, moist and flavorful, with a soft, warm bun. IOW... a hotdog done right.
OR....I can dink around with this worthless machine that was, ironically enough, made specifically FOR hotdogs, (!!) for at least 45 minutes to an hour, and come away with a dried out, lukewarm dog, and a room temp, dried out bun.
I didn't need this machine--I just needed another microwave I could keep downstairs.
the guys loved it & nobody went hungry

I bought this hot dog roller cooker so we could cook hot dogs @ work occasionally. The package showed up on the time frame promised, was unboxed & set up for cooking. After the first package of dogs was cooked, I knew this was a winner, the guys loved it & nobody went hungry. They were able to load the unit & pick off the dogs when their cooking style was completed. Cleanup was what was unknown, till after lunch. The roller lifts out for cleaning easily & reinstalls the same, just make sure you turn the driven roller as it lines up with the drive stud when reinstalling. Lining the drip pan with aluminum foil helps with the dripping grease coming off the dogs. You may have more orders for this roller cooker from these guys wanting one @ home.
Quick and tasty.

This is a really great hot dog and sausage cooker. The taste is much better than either boiling or frying the meat. They really taste like cooked at the ball park. I sometimes put frozen hot dogs on directly from the freezer. I like the bun warmer but it tends to dry the buns out a bit. I would suggest warming them when the hot dogs are half way cooked.
Love this Hot Dog roller cooker - We have bought 2 x 800's & 1 x 865 models.

I bought 2 of this RHD800 series after previously buying the less expensive 865 model.
To be perfectly frank - we love it.
I also eat a lot of hot dogs - Ball Park is my favorite brand. Works great watching ball games on TV.
Works fantastic & far better than to Nuke a hotdog in the microwave or boiling to death. Still love barbecued best.
The 865 was a gift I bought in a Crazy Santa game - unbelievably it was so popular it was stolen twice in the game.
Brother-in-law wanted the 800 since his kitchen is red & stainless steel, yes red & it matches perfectly.
Read other reviews about the bun warmer drying out the buns ? Best I can reply is - READ the instructions, it clearly says place a moist paper towel on top of the buns - haha. Try it - it works.
Perfect heating time is 25 minutes, Hot dogs will be hot, buns will be warm. You can leave the dogs rotating for an hour but after that time will begin to shrivel from overheat length. Buns then will also be dried out like toast.
Easy way to cook a tasty hot dog!

I didn't buy this thing for parties... or even to keep the hot dogs warm for extended periods. I simply picked it up so I could make evenly cooked hot dogs n' whatnot... and not have to make it a project. It's as easy as turning it on, tossing the dogs on, and coming back in about 12 minutes to your perfectly and evenly cooked hot dog. Exactly as I had envisioned. Better yet, it's extremely easy to clean. The rollers all come out in one piece, and are easily washed with hot water and soap. Manually rotating the rollers to easily clean is also nice, since thy're all attached to the same mechanism. The bottom drip tray below the heating mechanism also comes out easily, making the entire cleaning process a breeze.
The bun heating portion on the top is kind of pointless unless you like your buns to be dry, but I just grab fresh soft buns out of the bag anyways.
Works great!

I give it four stars - because, everyone knows, putting them on the grill is the only way to get five. But, this beats microwaving or boiling them, by far. I do have to turn the temp up to max, and then about 25 minutes of waiting after that.
The "bun warmer" concept on the top of it will only do just that... warm them. And just a little bit.
But let's face it... when you open your fridge, and you see relish... you know that hot dogs are the only logical and realistic way that you are going to be able to eat it. Sweet relish... dill relish... doesn't matter. Makes you think of hot dogs.
Uneven cooking.

Works decent. As others stated, for best results for the bun warmer, wrap buns in aluminum foil. It does not cook evenly, with my unit, I have to move the front to the back and the back to front to get even cooking. Also, the grease tray is a joke. The grease escapes through the screws that hold the plastic piece to the metal and it drips down and makes a mess on the counter. Was very disappointed with this. I personally won't buy it again or recommend it to anyone.
Everything I hoped it would be

Arrived 2 days after placing my order. After reading some of the bad reviews here I was nervous about what I'd receive. I'm a stickler about flaws, so if there were any issues I intended to return it immediately. However, my unit's been perfect after about 15 uses so far (about 1.5 years).
Assembly is quick and easy, DO read the instructions:
1. Carefully insert the rollers (*see note below)
2. Insert the four white poles
3. Insert canopy on top of the poles and push each corner down until they are all even and the canopy lid rests flat on the canopy housing.**
4. Plug it in and turn it on.
Hot dogs and brats taste great! I get 8 regular hot dogs on with no problem (4 'bun-length' or foot-long dogs). I leave them on high for 45 mins to get 'em darker. If you cook them on high for too long the skins may start to bubble out. As for the canopy/bun warmer "feature" - don't even bother. No matter what you do the buns just dry out and they never get warm. For that matter, you'd be better off leaving them out in the sun on an 80+ degree day. I use the canopy just for storing 8 paper hot dog holders, napkins, mustard packets and a set of tongs.
Overall: I'm very glad I bought this. It makes delicious hot dogs and is about as easy to clean as they get.
*Roller Tray:
Carefully insert the male hex pin on the left side of the rollers into the female hex gear on the left. Do not force this as the instructions warn. If it doesn't fit immediately, slowly turn one of the rollers to achieve the correct alignment.
**Canopy Lid:
If you find your canopy's lid doesn't sit perfectly flat onto the canopy housing, it's probably because one of the poles or canopy corners is not perfectly level with the others. Carefully push down on the high corner until the lid sits flat.
Very cheaply made and doesn't turn hot dogs

I wish I would have read the other low reviews before I bought this. The coupling that turns the rollers does not match or hold the gear tightly enough for the rollers to turn consistently. This results in hot dogs being burned on one side and uncooked on the other. The rollers are difficult to turn as well. Combined, this is just a cheaply made product that anyone should be ashamed to sell.
Great little hot dog roller!

If you like hot dogs then you need one of these.
This is literally a "set-it and forget-it" cooking device.
Bought it originally for the office but now I want one for home.
Pros:
-simple to use
-easy clean up
-makes perfectly cooked dogs
Cons:
if your dogs are bun length you won't fit 8 but rather 4 on at a time
Let me address a few comments I've read above concerning this unit.
Yes, sometimes the hot dogs don't want to roll at first. Why? Because the way they are vacuum sealed squeezes them into a squarish shape. Don't worry once they start to heat and plump they'll roll just fine. As I stated above and others mentioned if you are cooking longer dogs you'll only be able to fit 4 dogs instead of 8. The bun warmer is more of a bun drier as others have said so we don't use that. The right knob turns the rollers on and the left knob controls the heat. We run the left knob at 5 o'clock and in 20-25 minutes you'll have a nice evenly cooked hot dog with perfect color and perfect temperature inside. We've cooked more than 100 hot dogs on this unit since my purchase less than a month ago, unit is still going strong with zero issues.
In conclusion I can't think of one bad thing to say about this unit.
If you are even a little interested in this item don't hesitate, order one, you won't regret it.
