Exactly what I needed to keep my laptop cool.
by Figgy Moonpowder (5 out of 5 stars)

Yes, it seems like a lot to pay for an aluminum cylinder that does nothing but sit on your desk, but it does exactly what it's designed to do. If you're like me, you already paid a premium for your laptop and now you're frustrated that it's constantly overheating and the fans run so high that it sounds like you're at the airport. I was using the straight edge of an oversized blanket hanger to prop up the back of my laptop and it worked like a charm to cool the computer and keep the fans from running on high, but it looked ridiculous and was not something I wanted to carry with me when I had to work outside my house. This does the same thing, but doesn't look insane. I also didn't want to use software to regulate the fans inside my computer to run lower, since if they're running on high, the inside of the laptop is obviously hot enough that it warrants the high speed.

My only complaint is that the slim circumference allows the bar to roll forward under my laptop at times if I'm using it on my lap desk. But, bonus marks for matching my MacBook Pro.

Heavier and studier than expected

This is a VERY STURDY aluminum bar. It is heavy (but not too heavy since it is made of aluminum) and definitely not flimsy.

The cylinder has a flat side (bottom) that prevents rolling. It also has a rubber/plastic material on the top for laptop traction and to prevent scratches.

My main concern is that this device is somewhat heavy (0.6 pounds on my electronic scale). I wish the device was lighter, less sturdier, and cheaper.

Do MacBook owners need this?

I have a MacBook Pro (with dedicated Nvidia 9600 GT graphics card) running Windows 7. Unfortunately, I can't shut off the Nvidia 9600 graphics card with Windows 7 as I can with Mac OS. The Nvidia 9600 card creates tremendous amount of heat that can make the laptop run very hot that makes the fan constantly running. Although the all aluminum design of MacBooks dissipates heat very well and has a high degree of heat tolerance, high temperature is never good for electronic devices and tends to shorten their lifepan. Furthermore, the fan noise can be a distraction when one is having a meeting.

This bar levitates the back bottom portion of the MacBooks that contains both the CPU and GPU (Nvidia 9600) and allows air between the surface and MacBooks for far cooler operation. The result is your MacBook will not run as hot nor will the fan noise be as loud.

If you have MacBook (not MacBook Pro) that does not have a dedicated graphics card, then you probably will not need this. When I run Mac OS with the dedicated Nvidia 9600 graphics card turned off, the heat is very manageable even when I use my laptop for long durations.

So I recommend this device (or something similar) for those who use MacBook Pro with Windows or those who use Mac Pro with Mac OS with its dedicated graphics card turned on.

Essential MacBook Accessory

The Just Mobile Cooling Bar is just that, a bar. A $40 cylindrical piece of aluminum. No electronics, no moving parts - just metal; and I love it!

MacBooks vent near the bottom of the machine, by the screen hinge. During normal operation, there isn't a whole lot air flow in that area. This product is very simple, it just lifts the MacBook a couple inches to allow better airflow and thus lowers the temperature of the machine. It also provides an ideal typing angle, great for college students, and looks fantastic (I get a lot of compliments on campus). Other products like cooling mats and the like, require power, are bulky and provide you with ton of fan noise. One of the things I love the most about my MacBook Pro, is it's almost completely silent. In fact, that's why I wanted a cooling product - I don't want to hear the fans when it is under load.

Is this product for everyone, no. Understandably, a lot of people can't get past the fact that this product is really just a metal bar, regardless of how well designed it is. For those who want a simple cooling solution but still care about aesthetics and design (most Apple customers), will really enjoy this product. I highly recommend giving it a chance - I couldn't own a MacBook without it.

Very Classy Cooling Option
by Alex N. (5 out of 5 stars)

There are many ways of providing additional clearance for your laptop fan. You could take a wine cork and split it length-ways and glue the two bits at each corner of your laptop, or use a couple of fat pencils, but none are as classy as the CB-200 Cooling Bar. It reeks of quality and it impresses clients (unlike the other options). It's unobtrusive. It looks classy. It doesn't roll off the desk. You can take it with you when you travel. You can fend off unruly clients. It provides sufficient fan clearance and typing remains comfortable. It lets the fan do its job. What more could you ask? If you prefer wine corks then don't gripe over the cost. You pays your money and you takes your choice.

one ring is broken
by Martin Hecht (2 out of 5 stars)

I was so happy to - finally - find the cooling bar that I'd been looking for so long.

It arrived in time, but one of the rubber rings on the side (that makes sure the MacBook rest of the rubber and not on the metal) was broken.

I would have loved to give five stars - but not for something that is broken on arrival

Pricey, heavy but works!

Good product. Overpriced but works efficiently. Since it's aluminum I was thinking it was going to be lightweight but it is not it's actually heavy, It does not fit the new 12 inch MacBook, FYI

Really helps keep the Mac cool

Very stylish and it really helps keep my Mac cool, it gets kinda warm when I'm using my Thunderbolt display. Might be expensive for some and a deck of playing cards would do the same thing, but it looks cool.

Not for someone not willing to pay $40 for a stick of aluminum, its basically all it is. Very good looking though.
