Mean Pen
by Mike (4 out of 5 stars)

I tried this pen one night at work and I really like it. It feels good in the hand, even when writing which is a primary purpose. I like that you turn the barrel to deploy the cartridge instead of unscrewing a cap.I like the weight and the cartridge seems to write well. The only issue I have with it is big and makes it where I will not carry it at work. The dang clip is too tight and it is extremely difficult to put in or take out of my shirt pocket and take two hands to do so. I write in a log book and most of the time at work it stays in the log book clipped to the pages, however it damages the pages. This pen will have to go in pants pockets and I don't recommend trying to use the clip. It will have to be more of an EDC carry while I'm not working. That's just my experience, yours may vary.....

This Pen is the RAH66 Comanche of Writing Instruments.
by Steve (2 out of 5 stars)

After 22 years and $6,900,000,000 the ARMY had two prototype helicopters which faced serious concerns over their ability to simply get off the ground when fully loaded. Much like the Comanche, this pen is just too heavy for practical use. It's not well balanced and the worst part is that the pen tip doesn't retract into the pen, so hello ink stains everywhere. The least they could have done was provided a camo sleeve for it or something. I go to church with several military/police types and honestly I couldn't even give the pen away when they saw it. I just sits on my desk now looking stupid. As soon as the ink runs out in the trash it goes.

I like, but hope it'll remain just a toy or weird pen for me, rather than needing it for defense.

This is exactly as described, and what others have said in their reviews. This is my first pen of this type, so I really have nothing to compare it too.

My only nit is that the pen tip does not close, nor is there any type of cover, if it never leaks it'll be OK, and if I ruin the refill using the pen for some other purpose than writing, I will see it as a small price to pay for having it available when needed (if, when, hopefully never).

I do have rather large hands, so the size/weight in my eyes is a plus! I also like the looks of it, as well as the feel. I'm one of those guys that seems to always be holding something in his hands...

I can't see getting one of these for my wife, but for myself, I would buy it again rather than trying some other brand if I were to lose it. Also, I think the 'clip' is just fine, not too strong, or too weak.

While I don't know the solution, I took one star for the pen tip not being either capped, or able to fully retract (unless you can stand unscrewing the pieces from 'snug' - I can't).

No Uzi branding visible... generic knock-off?
by Joseph L. Campbell (3 out of 5 stars)
May 25, 2016

This is the first tactical pen I have purchased. It arrived in the mail today. This one appears to be a generic pen, not Uzi branded anywhere on the pen. This is probably just as well. The pen writes 'OK', but not great. I'll likely replace the cartridge with a higher quality insert when I return to school in the fall.

That said. It is a cool looking pen, but as other reviewers have pointed out, the non-writing end (glass-breaker) is almost too sharp. I'll be keeping this on my lanyard, so I don't think it'll be an issue. My wife is concerned about keeping it in her purse though as she's afraid she'll scratch herself trying to get it out of her purse, or it might damage other items in her purse.

Pen ordered not Pen Receioved
by J. C. LEONARD (1 out of 5 stars)

I bought this pen to replace the Uzi tactical pen that I lost, so I am intimately familiar with what it "should" be. The pen show in the description is an Uzi tactical pen, but the one I received is not. There is no Uzi branding, and it was shipped in a plain unbranded box. There is also no carbide tip insert for breaking glass, rather there is a point milled into the aluminum. It's an OK pen. but is not what is described.

Nice pen overall but...
by Keith Martin (3 out of 5 stars)
August 24, 2016

It has a nice feel, for me anyway, as it is a pleasingly hefty pen. The build quality is excellent and I like the military appearance of the knurls and blood (?) channels in its construction. This one is a genuine Uzi so I didn't have the problems associated with the knockoffs I've read about.

HOWEVER, I do have two, shall we say, difficulties with the pen. The first is that while it supposedly will take Fisher refills, mine will not without routing out the tip. The included Parker knockoff (no labeling on the cartridge whatsoever) does write as I would expect a Parker to perform, but it will not give me the flexibility of a Fisher. The second is that I have to unscrew the pen fore body to "retract" the pen tip.

Really?

There's no way to make a rugged twist-to-retract mechanism? One that doesn't require me to use an O-ring as a drag source? Unless I'm supposed to grease the pen somehow (which is mentioned nowhere on or in the packaging) I have doubts about the lifetime of the O-ring. We'll see.

Somewhat OK - for looks
by Thomas C Carroll (2 out of 5 stars)

I had gotten some of these before, they were grey and made by another company. Those other pens would accept the Fisher Space Pen refills. This one doesn't. The Space Pen refill is slightly different than the ink cartridge that fits this pen. It won't work in it. The cartridge that comes with this pen isn't very good. The ink doesn't write well. It's like the paper has wax spots on it or something, the pen refuses to spit ink out consistently so some letters in a word are missing. You try and rewrite again to fill in the missing letters but it just won't write. If this pen accepted the space pen refills, I'd give it 5 stars, but since it has Chinese ink that doesn't write so good, I give it 2 stars, strictly for looks.

Great!
by David F. Moberg, III (4 out of 5 stars)

Just what I was expecting. I work with LEOs in my area they carry pens like this. That made me want go out and buy one.

This one is cheap and does everything I wanted it to do.

Mine, as not advertised, came with a hand cuff key! Quite the surprise when I was playing around with it. Pens like this that advertise that they come with that key are normally priced higher.

I subtracted one star because the ink cartridge ran dry after two weeks. Not much of a problem as I was able to find much better quality refills at my local Walmart.

Fast shipping! arrived two days ahead of schedule!

I'm a pen guy, and I like this instrument
by Idaforkian (4 out of 5 stars)
May 15, 2014

I read some of the reviews, and don't agree with a lot of the negative comments. This is a 'tactical' pen, and by nature designed to be tough. What surprised me was that it does not weigh as much as I thought, and it has great balance. The ink cartridge that was delivered with the pen is smooth, and writes very easily. Don't have to press down hard like you would with a cheap ballpoint insert.

Some buyers complained about needing to rotate the tip 3-4 revolutions to expose or retract the pen tip. Again, by nature, this is a rugged instrument. It's totally appropriate for what it is.

I like the clip... it's beefy, and will not allow the pen to fall off without deliberate effort. Personally, I wouldn't put it in a shirt pocket in the office. But hey, that's me.

No Retraction Mechanism is a Deal Breaker.
by RDKirk (1 out of 5 stars)
September 23, 2016

I will be returning this pen. Unlike other similar designs, this pen does not have the half-twist retraction mechanism. Rather you have to unscrew the barrel four twists as though unscrewing it to cover the pen point. That's not satisfactory. There are other Amazon Prime pens that are just as good and have a proper retraction mechanism.
