Very nice little kit for Boy Scouts, covers at least 5 of the 10 Essentials needed for camp outs. The compass is pretty cheep (which I expected) but the knife seems to be good quality. I added some tinfoil and duct tape to enhance the capability of the unit.

this kit provided 6 of the 10 essentials without much weight and is a nice little kit.

on the last camp out, my daughter could not find her flashlight, so i pulled out the emergency flash light from the kit and one of the batteries i had put in there and she had a flash light. which was great.

i did also place some tinfoil in the box for emergency dry fire base, as well as the 2 AA batteries and duct tape so that the kit is more complete. I keep this in my backpack and i am very happy with it. the whistle is loud and the knife seems sharp and sturdy. the compass is rather cheep but works.

This item couldn't even survive overnight shipping packed in an Amazon box without the cheap plastic case shattering into dozens of pieces (see the images). If you buy this, treat the case as though it's made of fortune cookie material. Absolute junk.

For the price this kit is awesome. I bought one to keep in my purse at all times but thinking of maybe getting a second one for my car. The only thing I didn't like was the compass. I thought it was going to be more of the map friendly compass where you can navigate on the map with the straight edge, etc. But it still works and I might possibly replace the compass with a Silva. I tested the striker and I was able to start a fire immediately with a paper towel. Whistle was loud as hell. Knife was ok and I actually found it useful to produce a better spark on the striker. Haven't tested the waterproof claim yet but whether or not it works, the kit is great.

A good kit for the price. The tactical pen alone is better than others I have seen sold separately for $25+. The knife is sub-par and not the one shown in the picture. It's a toy at best. The compass included is useful, but also not the one shown in the pic. I think the included one may actually be better than the pictured one. Overall, still a bargain, with some handy gadgets to have around in a pinch. Buy one for the glove box of all of your vehicles or put one in the pocket of your day hike bag or tackle box.

Multi-purpose

This is an awesome set, if a little heavier than most kits. It makes up for the extra weight with absolute usefulness for one seeking rescue. The intense flashlights (one with brilliant strobe) will come in handy when working at night, or signaling rescuers. This is a multi-purpose survival kit for cars, camping, flying, and boating.

Bunch of cheap crap, don't waste your time.

Arrived broken. The case was busted, and the liner ripped. Everything in the box is cheap (expected due to the price), but a few items are straight non-functional. The flint wouldn't work and the knife both wouldn't lock in place and broke after trying to use it (unsuccessfully) to spark the flint.

Nice little kit to bring when camping or hiking. Very small and compact so doesn't take up too much room or weigh you down. Easy to store in house or car in case of emergency situations.

I have to say I was very sceptical of this purchase at first , but after receiving it I was impressed. Although this is not the perfect survival kit it is definitely a starting place. The compass was not that high of quality and I feel as though it was too big. I personally switched it out with a smaller one from silva to save space. The flashlight is really good, it's small and very bright. A good size for what you need. Magnesium fire starter was a good size to use and handle. It wasn't to small like most companies. And the knife was actually really impressive. I'm a man who buys quality knives such as benchmade and zero tolerance and I was wondering about the quality of this one. But for a cheep knife i was impressed, it's sturdy and came sharp. Over all I'd say it was a good buy, I use it for backpacking and camping. It saves lots of space. But as always, you can always improve on this kit.

I have several of these small survival kits; I guess its a carryover from my USAF days and trying to be prepared. This one is OK, most of the items are good quality, not top of the line, but good except for the compass. Its a bit wonky on direction finding, but I have other ways of finding directions, so I won't use it. The rest is going into my car console for emergency use.
