Product Description

Featured on CBS This Morning, Men’s Health, The Washington Post, Buzzfeed, and The Dr. Oz Show

Two top doctors present a comprehensive, light-hearted guide for the hypochondriac in all of us.

Christopher Kelly, MD, and Marc Eisenberg, MD, FACC, are both highly accomplished physicians and health experts from UNC Health and Columbia University Medical Center. In Am I Dying?!, Dr. Kelly and Dr. Eisenberg walk you through common symptoms and medical myths to provide a helpful, conversational guide on what to do when you experience symptoms – offering advice on whether to chill out, make a doctor’s appointment, or go to the hospital.

Most new symptoms turn out to be minor. Most likely, a stuffy nose isn’t a sign of cancer. But sometimes a headache isn’t just a temporary nuisance and could be a sign of a serious condition. The internet can offer a wealth of data, but it can also be a source of harmful misinformation. So if you have a new symptom, how worried should you be?

This down-to-earth, humorous symptom guide covers over forty different symptoms, organized into eight body areas – including head/neck, chest/back, belly, skin, and more. Some examples include:

·         Belly: When is bloating a sign of a serious problem? Why do some people feel nauseated all the time?

·         Lady Parts:  How often do you really need a mammogram? When is a lump likely to be serious?

·         Bathroom Trouble: Why do some people pee so often (and can a bladder explode from holding it)?

Packed with practical information and organized in a fun, easy-to-access format, Am I Dying?! is a perfect gift, medical resource, and must-have addition to your home library.

It made my anxiety worse.

If you have any sort of mental illness that leaves you constantly feeling like you're sick or dying, don't use the book.

I think it'd be a supurb resource if you didn't always assume the worst, because you could talk yourself down and think rationally. But with me I noticed I was always able to find a way to fit into the "seek medical attention immediately" category. It ended up being just as bad, or worse, than self diagnosing on the inter-webs.

I do wish everyone good lock with their woes, however!

very handy and well-written guide to symptoms
by David Anstey (5 out of 5 stars)

Covers dozens of different symptoms and provides clues to the likely cause and how soon you need to see a doctor (ranging from not at all to immediately). Things like sore throat, fatigue, cough, diarrhea, swollen legs, etc. Very easy-to-understand language. Often pretty funny too. Doesn't try to scare you unnecessarily which I appreciated the most since I'm giving it as a gift to some worrier friends. Much better than trying to get a straight answer on the internet, where I feel like the answer is always cancer or something horrible like that.

Funny and comforting

If you are the type of person that is super in tune with your body and its functions (and malfunctions), you need this book. Real medical advice from real doctors but presented in a funny, easily understandable way. I have a list of friends in my head who could save a lot of trips to the doctor with this book on hand.

We Are All Dying
by Anna Keller (5 out of 5 stars)

Sadly, the answer will always be yes. This was a great gift for my dad because he's always convinced he's dying, even though he's in better health than anybody else I know despite being in his 70's. This book has shifted his focus into problem solving and we don't have to hear him panic about a brain tumor every time he has a headache because in 70 years he hasn't figured out some coping mechanisms for stress management. Honestly. If they made one of these for computer support, it would probably solve almost all his problems.

Clever and informative!!

This book is a MUST HAVE for every household! It's the perfect solution for someone who needs a little guidance regarding a symptom before contacting the doctor without having to go to Google for the answers. So often I have gone down a rabbit hole on the internet (as most of us probably have) and let's be honest, it never ends well! I love how relatable and funny the book is. It feels as if I'm sitting around my kitchen table having a beer with these doctors as they hilariously explain that (most of the time) I should "take a chill pill". I'd highly recommend it!

OK

I had flipped through this book in less than 20 minutes. It's OK but nothing you can't find on Google. I know, Google isn't a doctor but this book doesn't go in to any great detail for anything, and it shouldn't. It's a good reference but if you panic about your health this book won't do much good, see your doctor.

This book is a great read - both informative and funny, it breaks down common health issues into easy to digest sections and has provided incredible peace of mind while putting a smile on my face! I'm keeping this copy for myself, but giving more as gifts.

Not very useful...

This book was a waste of money for me. Too many generalizations and basic information. I respect the intent of the writers but after zipping through this book in a short time, I quickly placed it in my bin to contribute to the next library foundation book sale.

Funny and informative! Great gift for hypochondriacs and the rest of us!
by Bianca Strul (5 out of 5 stars)

Maybe they should rename this book "Am I laughing?!" This book spoke to my inner hypochondriac and my humor. With 2 kids I am constantly googling and worrying. This is an amazing and fun reference guide for any parent or person. I am going to buy for my friend Ralph who always thinks he is on the verge of death and my parents in Florida, who think every cold I or their grandkids get is the apocalypse.
