Decent, but pressure could be improved
by c los (4 out of 5 stars)

If you are looking to upgrade the pressure of your shower, look elsewhere unless you are willing to make modifications. If you don't mind lower pressure if the water is filtered, this is an easy upgrade. The filter really does make for fresh water. I feel more refreshed, less itchy on my scalp, softer skin and hair... it's really better for your. Go figure that removing chlorine and other impurities in the water would result in a refreshing shower. Unfortunately, upon first installing it, I was getting terrible pressure. It took longer to get soap washed off due to this. I searched the instructions for info on how to improve the flow and pressure. Nothing. I then revisited the Amazon page and found that the video on the item page says something about removing a restrictor. You can see in the video that there are two types of restrictor--one that pops right out, and then you see a rubber gasket being removed. I tried this in mine since mine did not have a removable plastic restrictor. It made no difference. I noticed that my unit had a built in plastic piece that could not be removed. I also noticed that the hole on the main part was much smaller than my previous shower head.

So this is where the hard work of modifying the unit and invalidating your warranty comes in. If you want both filtered water and decent pressure, you will have to get a drill and a small flat head screw driver, ice pick, or very small knife. I drilled into the main hole and enlarged it. Then, using the pick and a small knife, I removed the tiny rubber gasket on the built in plastic part, revealing more holes for flow. Then I used a hammer and the pick to create a hole in the plastic part, creating a hole for even more flow. Then I used the screwdriver and hammer to chip away at the narrow part of the hard plastic ring inside the unit. After reinstalling, the shower pressure was much improved. Before the modification, the water would not reach the back end of the tub. After the modifications, The water could reach all the way to the where the wall and the tub meet. The pressure is not perfect but way better than a regular install. Too bad this voids the warranty, but now I have filtered water with good pressure!

Hardly perceivable

The right is before using the filtered shower head, the middle is after and the left is bottled water. It seems to have made a slight difference, hardly perceivable to me, I may try a a few more filters to see if they can give me a bigger difference.

Works fine. Removed the flow restrictor and added a flow valve.

The shower head works fine.

It is not really "chrome metal" but it is plastic shell that looks like chrome.

Shower head: Culligaan WSH-C125

Separate purchase was the Flow valve: KES K1140B3 Shower Head Shut-Off

Thanks to the shoppers who left instructions to remove the flow restrictor.

This information was most helpful, so I am re-posting it here:
-----------
"The flow restrictor is the purple plastic piece inside the round shaped metal piece. To remove it, turn this metal piece so the small hole at the top of the "ball" is facing up and place the flat side on a firm surface. Stick a thin screwdriver through the small hole at the top and push down. The purple water restrictor and grayish white plastic piece as well as a black plastic washer will come out the bottom. Lastly replace the gray piece and rubber washer and install the shower head."
-----------

Also, thanks to the shoppers who recommended to install a flow valve if you are going to remove the flow restrictor.

We got this flow valve: KES K1140B3 Shower Head Shut-Off

The flow valve helps with controlling the amount of water that goes through the shower head.

We can control the flow to be a big flow or a little flow.

As for the filter, that is an added benefit. I have not compared the water using a water test strip.

LOVE THIS!!!!!

I purchased this based on reviews.

While I live in a big city that has generally good water, I also live in a very old building. The brownstone apartment building I call home is over 100 years old. I've lived here for a few months now, and I noticed I was buying a lot more bottled water because the water just tasted bad out of the old kitchen sink I have. I purchased a Brita pitcher w/filter for my fridge; problem solved. I then began to think about my shower. Since moving into this apartment, my skin has become dry. My shampoo wasn't lathering very well and my hair seemed brittle.

I ordered this shower head on Friday, August 26th and it arrived Monday, August 29th. Installation was easy. The package comes with an ample amount of plumber's tape. I did take the shower head apart and remove the little stopper that slows the water pressure. This is easy to do. The filter has stickers on each side - these need to be removed before use. Note - once the filter is properly installed in the shower head, it is heavy. I was worried it would be too heavy for my old bathroom's shower apparatus.

I've been using the new shower head for a week now. I'm already noticing benefits. I'm using less shampoo and soap because they now lather as they should. The skin on my face isn't as dry and I'm already using less moisturizer post-shower. The water pressure is amazing. I actually feel clean when I get out of my shower.

I would definitely recommend this ... Only one word of caution ... if you live in a old apartment like I do, and you have a clawfoot tub, make sure you have adequate shower curtain coverage all the way around your tub ...

A few days later after shampooing my hair which was still coming out feeling like straw under my new
by Merlin (1 out of 5 stars)

I carefully installed this filtered shower head, placing the filter inside it as required. A few days later after shampooing my hair which was still coming out feeling like straw under my new shower head, I decided to test the water with the water gauge which came with my Zero Water filter system. This clearly shows whether there are contaminants in the water and it works well. Comparing my tap water to the water I filter through my Zero Water system (It's a pitcher with a filter on top) the tap water was highly contaminated reading 380 while the filtered water was 00. When I tested the water that came out of my new shower head with its internal filter, I was horrified to discover that it was just the same as the tap water 380! It doesn't filter the water at all. I even double checked the gauge on my pitcher filtered water and it was still 00. The filtered shower head is a total rip off. It doesn't work at all. I am completely disgusted.....

Do not Purchase

I normally do not write reviews, however I am making an exception with this one. Please don't be fooled because they are saying they are NSF certified. This product is absolutely terrible. I will expound on what makes this product so poor. I had recently had a water filter system set up, however upon finding out that they went out of business i couldn't purchase the filters any longer i had to look for another product to replace the old. I came across this one and since Culligan has been in business for some time and was certified from the NSF i figured i couldn't go wrong. However after installing it, I immediately noticed a big difference in dry skin and also dry scalp.. This is from not getting the Chlorine out of the water. This one deserves to go in the garbage after i find a replacement. Also i forgot to add water pressure has been horrible as well.. This product all around is terrible.. do not purchase unless you want itchy skin and low water pressure..

Before installing this filtered shower head, I had a lot of issues with mineral build-up on my scalp causing intense itching. This filter solved that problem. I hope it can also help keep the glass shower doors cleaner.

Yes! Yes! Yes!

Yes yes yes! Like the commercial for herbal essence shampoo. Except you don't need the shampoo when you wet your hair! I am so glad I bought this for my shower as I have well water and it was destroying my hair. I've spent housands on my hair only to have well water destroy it and this has saved my hair and skin. I have only been using it a few days but I am in love. My skin is soft my hair is softer.

Installation was easy. My husband was surprised and proud that I installed it on my own. It does. It leak. Wrap the teflon tape around the threads, screw the shower head on. Then unscrew the base and install the filter.

My ONLY gripe is the water pressure on the basic spray setting but that's my issue. The massage setting is pretty intense but is targeted more for your body, not hair.

So far, so good. Worth it and will be getting a handheld for my kids bathroom next.

Thanks!!!

This filter does nothing to reduce TDS (total dissolved solids) in the water. My TDS meter showed no difference when adding this shower head, despite its claim of "reducing the amount of scale (a hard, filmy residue created by minerals in water)"

All it did was reduce water flow. You are better off getting a whole house water softener or some other shower head product and testing it yourself. Make sure it does what it actually claims to do. Waste of money.

works for the hard water

love it!. use the test paper to test the hardness of the water. The right is the water coming from my kitchen and the left is coming from Culligan. It really works for the hard water.
