The finger guard is a stainless steel shield that protects fingers while slicing and dicing. The interior of the shield has a welded ring which easily adjusts to fit the chef's middle finger, thus leaving all other fingers to manipulate the food. The tip of the shield holds the food that has to be sliced. Dishwasher safe. Made by Deglon cutlery in thiers, france, the cradle of the french knife making industry. I chop all kinds of Vegetables all the time and no problem, however, when I chop an Onion sometimes I get the knife in my Index Finger specially towards the root end, of the Onion, and always wanted to find something to protect that Finger! ...The DEGLON Stainless Steel Finger Guard is my answer and as soonest I got my hands ...I mean my Index Finger inside to try it, I started chopping everything to make a vegetable Soup and it didn't take me long to get used to it. I don't give it five stars because it takes a little while to practice and feel comfortable with it, it is a Great Teaching Tool and I am glad I have it for those times when I chop Onions! Works as advertised but not right for me.

This item works as advertised but it's not right for me. My hands and my fingers seemed to be a little bit bigger then the device can handle. It does work for me but it's very clumsy for me. I opted to get the protective gloves for knife use in the kitchen.

It is rather loose and cannot be tightened for my wife' fingers, but fits mine fine. I bought it for her, but she forgets to pull it out and use it. I will.
