A Sticky (Waffle Iron) Wicket
by James B. (2 out of 5 stars)
April 29, 2017

I have had this waffle iron for two years. When it worked, it made lovely, crisp waffles. But the longer I've had it, the more it sticks. I've followed the instructions in the video and the book. I've left it dirty. I've obsessively cleaned it of every particle. In desperation, I've improvised with spray oil. In the end, I've had far too many breakfasts where I've had to set aside this iron and turn my waffle batter into pancake batter. Once too often I've been left with waffle fragments, oil everywhere, annoyed kids, breakfast still to make, and a big mess to clean up. Eh. I'll be moving on to a waffle iron made of a metal that will truly be non-stick and actually take oil in the "spirit" it is meant. Good luck with your choice!
--Update: I've done some research -- some folks believe the aluminum builds up carbon over time from the cooked oil and that this gunk makes the iron progressively more sticky (it does not have the "curing" effect you get with cast iron). I've applied a non-toxic grill cleaner for removing carbon deposits and given the plates plenty of elbow grease. Will soon see if they will actually release waffles soon enough!
--Update2: Nope. I stripped it down, I cleaned it like a madman, I did everything I could, oiled it up, and in the end still lost a couple of breakfasts to this beast. It just won't release. So this thing and I have reached the end of the road. Again -- good luck!

Nonstick coating comes off
by Amazon Customer (1 out of 5 stars)
January 7, 2018

After about a dozen uses, the nonstick coating has started coming off. We've been following the washing and cooking guidelines (don't even own a dishwasher). Unfortunately, since we so rarely make waffles (once every two months or so), it's past time to be able to return it to Amazon. I'd go with a real cast iron waffle maker if I could make the order again.

Very happy with this waffle iron - it is worth it

I can't say enough good things about this waffle maker. I have an olaf electric waffle maker that my parents got for my daughter as a present. I used it several times and will still have to keep using it since she loves the olaf shaped waffles it makes. It is however the biggest pain to clean it properly. The waffle shape has small holes and crevices that make cleaning out the thing properly extremely difficult since you cant submerge it in water. After I tasted how good home made waffles tasted, even though they were olaf shaped, I wanted to always make home made waffles and not buy frozen ones anymore. The recipes are so easy. I wanted a bigger waffle maker, or one that makes ones with less crevices at least. What lead me to buying this waffle iron instead of an electric is that you can fully submerge it in water to get it perfectly and quickly and easily cleaned. It is truly non stick too. I got this over the cast iron one for that reason. I didn't want to mess around with non stick for waffles. It could ruin and frustrate me quickly if I had an issue with this sticking while using it on a gas range with flames and I know myself and I would give up fast and get angry. So I got this one instead and the waffles come off ridiculously easily. I was nervous to use this on the gas range as I didn't know the right heat setting to use. I watched the video that is online for this and followed what she said for that and quickly realized that every stove is different and I had to adjust the flame to get the waffles to cook in the appropriate amount of time. So far I haven't had any batter spill out the sides which was another thing that I was worried about. Having said that, I also haven't made a perfectly square waffle yet since I haven't put enough in to reach all four corners yet. I'll get there. Ive made about 3 batches of waffles in it so far, different recipes each time as we are trying them out to find THE best waffle recipe. I am extremely happy with this purchase and I would recommend trying it out. I don't think I would have been as happy had I gotten another electric one, if even it was easier to use.

LOVE it! Works amazingly!

I was very skeptical about purchasing this waffle iron after reading the mixed reviews, but I am SO glad I took the change and purchased it. Others have mentioned problems with sticking, but I've only experienced very minor sticking while using a small amount of Grapeseed Oil Spray. The sticking is easily and quickly fixed by using a fork to gently pry it from the iron when flipping. Like I said, it really hasn't been much of a problem for me though. Other reviewers also mentioned the hinges not being designed well, but I love how easy it is to take apart and put together. After a little practice with stove temperatures and batteries consistencies, this is one of my favorite kitchen items! Hoping to take it camping soon--will update review.

I've never had a waffle iron/maker - it seemed like the kind of appliance that would be used a couple times a year and spend the rest of the time taking up valuable counter or cupboard space. Not this. It quite slim - about as tall as the lip of a jelly roll pan. It stores comfortably in the drawer of my oven.

Performance wise it's a winner. As mentioned by others, FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS and you'll be delighted. Don't underestimate the preheating time and be sure to spray or brush a bit of canola oil on the interior of each side. Use a thick batter, spread it quickly with a spatula and close that sucker up. After ONE minute, flip it over, keep it closed, and heat it for another two. Done and Yum. If you're making another one, preheat it again for another minute each side before putting in the next batter. This will make sure that each one is evenly crispy and fluffy. I didn't seem to need to add more oil to the interior after the first one.

I'm so glad I chose this. For the cost of going out to breakfast, I'm having my favorite dish whenever I want from now on.

Love It!
by Mr and Mrs Whittemore (5 out of 5 stars)

I had bought this waffle iron for a relative as a Christmas present. She had it on her 'Wish List'. After receiving it and checking it out myself, I decided to get one for me as well. I'd been wanting a waffle iron for some time (I love waffles, but don't care for frozen ones), but my hesitation was the space for a large waffle iron. You know, the sort you plug in that are just so big and awkward. I didn't even know that something like this existed.

I use this thing so much. It's so easy to use. It makes perfect waffles. It cleans up easily. It stores easily! It just checks off all my wants. I have used both a silicone brush and oil spray when cooking. A spray has worked just fine for me, and is a bit quicker then brushing oil on the iron.

I'm so glad I drew my cousin's name for that Secret Santa. Otherwise I would never have known about one of my favorite kitchen items.

Great product ... you can make one or 4 waffles at a time

broke in the first one in wrong manner, actually heated it too long.

also this second product was not "handed to the customer" rather it was left on the porch

and my dog told me someone had been outside. this is fine, i received the product...

NordicWare 15040 Cast Aluminum Stovetop Belgium Waffle Iron

but not as described to amazon.

having used this product already we will more carefully monitor the break-in process and expect nothing but a good experience after

that. the electric products are too hard to clean. consider also, you can take this camping if you want, and it does not take that much room to haul a bag of pancake mix.

Simple, Easy, No Cords, Not another gadget, etc
by Saro Marcarian (5 out of 5 stars)

Folks - this is all you need to make waffles. I mean, you DO have a stove, right?

We've used this a few times. Reviewers who complain about the hinge being goofy or hard to use...... I can't help you other than to suggest you're wrong, lazy, missing an arm, etc. Yeah maybe rehearse the motions a time or two.

We haven't used the recipe that comes with the unit as we had our own. Again no problems. Preheat both sides (easy since it comes apart). Pour / scoop batter on one side. Bring 2 halves together and close. Flip. Cook (1:45 for us). Flip. Cook for another 1:45. Extract waffle.

The only bummer... After a marathon waffle making session (twentysomething waffles) the handles started to get a bit warm. I challenge you to achieve this problem.

Cooks great waffles and easy to use and clean!

I was looking for a waffle maker that I could use to make small portions for kids that I could make ahead and freeze for school. I didn't even know there was a stove top option for waffle makers until I stumbled onto this! I have not been disappointed! Firstly it slightly more than an inch thick so it can be stored on its side and take up almost no space. Secondly, it is so easy to wash because there is no electrical component to mess with and can be completely submerged!! So as long as you use some kind of cooking oil while cooking it is a breeze to clean. Thirdly, and most importantly, if you follow the directions on the package and preheat the pan and then cook on medium heat, it cooks amazing waffles!! I got the Belgian waffler so it cooks 4 square waffles that I can break apart and easily serve to small Kiddos or freeze and toast later for a before school breakfast! Love this product!
