Great for Home or Field Use

I bought this to use while bowhunting in the early Fall. We have a terrible amount of mosquitos here that time of year. Normally even with DEET, you get eaten. I bought this in hopes of keeping the mosquitos at bay. I was shocked by how well this product works. The mosquitos literally formed a cloud around my head prior to turning this on. I turned on the Thermocell and it was like I was in a force field. The best part is it had zero effect on the game around my tree stand. I still ended up having white tailed deer walk directly underneath my stand while this unit was running. It works so well, we bought a second unit for my wife to use at home. We use one on our back porch too to keep the mosquitos away. The refills last about 3 or 4 days running them about 45 minutes per day. I turn ours on and let it run for 10 minutes or so and shut it off and turn it back on if the bugs get bad. Excellent product!

You need this for hunting in the south!

We use Thermacells frequently during hunting season here in southeast Louisiana. We have always been leary of using bug repellent because we feel it spooks the deer. The thermacells do not seem to do that. As a matter of fact, I have killed them at close range while it was running. Whether or not they could smell it at the time I do not know but I have taken deer with it on. I have always used the traditional scent but when I saw the earth scented, I purchased these for my daughter who hunts also. The smell was a nice wet earth smell and definitely smelled authentic. We did not notice any difference in the ability to keep away the bugs between traditional scent and earth scent. However, we damn sure noticed the difference between having the thermacell on and leaving it at home!! The bugs knew too!!! This product is most effective when the wind is at a minimum and there are relatively fresh scent pads in the unit. I have gotten a little more use from the pads (longer time before changing) than the instructions suggest so that was a plus. It truly has worked well for us on the deer stand in warmer weather and I recommend them to people. I give them as gifts to my kids who deer hunt and they love them. We bring headnets as a backup, but thermacells have always done a good enough job on the deer stands to where we never had to wear them. Some people complain the refills can get pricey, but when stand hunting in a swamp in warmer weather and the mosquitoes are bad I'd argue they are worth their weight in gold.

No more bug bites, you get what you pay for!

This stuff is amazing! The price per use is rather high by comparison to traditional bug sprays that you would apply to your skin and clothes, however this stuff works extraordinarily well. The benefit of using this item is the fact that you don't slather it on yourself, instead it envelops you with a layer of protection that doesn't follow you around after using it. Once the system warms up and start dispersing the chemicals its efficacy is unparalleled. I sat outside in a t shirt and athletic shorts for 4 hours during sunset hours and didn't get one bite. I should also mention that I live in the south where bug bites are as common in summer as a tan. I highly recommend this product!

Keeps everything away

Giving this 3 stars because it does work well for keeping mosquitoes and biting gnats away. Unfortunately in Middle TN the earth scent keeps deer away as well. Using the unscented mats I have never had a problem, the first time using the earth scent I was winded at more than a hundred yards. Realizing my mistake I tried to clean the grill of my thermacell and switching back to the unscented mats. The next afternoon the unit still had a light smell of the earth scent and again I was winded, but at 30 yards this time. Ended up buying another MR300 since I could not get rid of the cologne like odor of the earth mats.

Product does work well for keeping biting insects away, but be aware that deer in your area may be alerted by the smell.

A must for summer hunting

I use them primarily for hunting during the summer, and on numerous occasions I have been in stand being circled by mosquitoes, until I click on my Thermacell and VOILA! they disappear and stay gone as long as it is on.

I'm wary of the scent these produce, but Earth Scent is probably as good as a hunter can hope for and while I'd rather not turn on the Thermacell when deer hunting, I also realize that smacking myself to kill mosquitoes every 5 seconds is far more a detriment to my hunting success than the potential a deer has begun to associate the smell of Thermacell with danger.

I hunt in semi-populated areas where foreign scent is the norm. If I hunted in big woods where anything foreign was a red flag, I would try my best not to turn on a Thermacell, but you better believe I'd still have it in my pack.

False Advertising on the longevity of the pads

The pads "claim" to last 4 hours but barely last passed the hour. After one whole hour the pad is a very light blue and you'd be lucky to get another 30 minutes out of it. I have tested this with the entire package and all of them were the same. False advertising. I gave this 2 stars only because it does work within that first hour for the most part.

Thermacell Products are all I trust my family with during mosquito season. We never have any issues when we are playing outside and don't even have to wear any bug spray with a thermacell around. I will recommend this product to anyone especially people that have homes near areas with a large mosquito Population. Also, the earth sent is great for hunting and I had no issue being detected by deer

I work for DE State Parks & hunt in southern Delaware starting in September bow season. These Thermalcells are a gamechanger, it's nearly impossible to hunt for any length of time in early season without one. Plus - great for sitting in the yard drinking beer in the evenings! It really does create about a 15' bubble around you $ amazing times we're living in.

Works just as good, but the scent is brutally obtrusive...like a smack in the face...and it lingers...I can't imagine this spooking game less than the original...original scent is very mild and nearly undetectable to humans...but who knows. I'd love to see a test on youtube or something :)

Bye bye mosquitoes, ticks, and getting smelled by deer

From hunting early bow season for deer in Virginia where it was 92 degrees and mosquitoes and ticks swarmed, to the late season where its dead calm and cold, in over 100-hours in the stand this year I have yet to get a single bug bite or get smelled by deer or turkeys when I burn this for a few hours every time I sit down. I wish I would have had this as a kid 25 years or or camping in the woods. An absolute gem.
