A win for my classroom
by MassRes,Top Contributor: Pets (5 out of 5 stars)
January 13, 2018

Bought 24 for my classroom. My students use Chromebooks and plug this thing right into the USB port, bend it toward them and it's just enough air flow that at least it feels like you're being cooled off.

I've had to stop them from sticking their fingers in the blades, which they didn't get cut from. I've warned them all to be careful with each and they put it back in it's packaging to store. The packaging works well for storage.

The cable isn't super long, but it's definitely enough for it to be on a classroom desk and bend toward the students who report that it's "just enough" power. It also doesn't zap their battery on their chromebook.

Win for this teacher!

I bought this fan 2 years ago, and it's been used quite a bit. I used to carry with me in my laptop bag, but have since migrated it over to my desk, where i still use it very often. On very long gaming sessions i'll also connect it to my nintendo switch. Great fan, worth the price!
1. i've used it on my switch
2. i use it with my imuto battery storage
3. i have a usb -> plug that i use next to my bed

Powerful fan using USB power
by Abraham Friedman (5 out of 5 stars)
September 22, 2017

I bought this USB fan to run off a battery pack to keep me cool on the go. I was testing this for use while camping. It is very quiet and moves a descent amount of air but you need to be within a foot of the fan to really appreciate the breeze. The power consumption seems to be quite low for something that's continuously running.

I find the lack of a switch something you get used to and it means less things to break and less expense. It can be bent a lot to help redirect the flow so a 90 degree bend is no problem. The blades are made of hard plastic but don't really hurt when you brush up against them.

The only negative I found was with not with the fan but with the battery pack I was using because one of them was a lipstick style battery and I wanted to rest it on my chest and because it was round it wouldn't stay in position. I have a larger playing deck style which kept the fan blowing on my face nicely. Just something to think about if you are using this outside and want to have hands-free operation.

Small but mighty fan...we take ours everywhere we travel!
by Bernadette Rosenstiel, D.C. (5 out of 5 stars)
July 17, 2017

Honestly, this little treasure of a gizmo is worth its weight in stars. My wife and I travel quite a bit, often to Europe during the summer. In 2015, we found ourselves in the throngs of a record-setting heat wave. We would have sold our souls for a fan, ANY FAN, but not one to be found near our remote oyster village in Bouzigues, south of France. Seriously! So out of sheer desperation I ordered not one, but THREE of these little puppies from Amazon.com in the UK. The reviews were great, the price seemed right, and delivery was free (thank you Amazon Prime), so we went for it.

So the good news is that these little guys (Arctic Breeze USB Desktop Fans) are all business. Okay, so they are technically designed for use beside your desktop or laptop computer (USB powered), but with a standard USB adapter they can be used with any power outlet. They are extremely well made. In a word, these fans are completely INCREDIBLE. Although the fan, fan housing and base top are some sort of [high-quality] plastic, the flexible, metal goose-neck stem holds any twist or angle, as you would hope, and the base is a hefty polished metal (with rubber protection pads) that keeps the fan perfectly stable.

The simple on-off switch/knob allows you to meticulously control the fan speed: slow, fast, or ANY SPEED in between. The motor is flawless, and virtually (make that absolutely) silent at any speed. Keep in mind this is a "personal" fan (under 8" in height), but can be placed nearly anywhere with its generous 6-feet USB power cord (I just measured it). I use it every night during the summer for a light breeze while sleeping (MUCH cheaper than running the AC), or kick it up for working at my computer, having lunch, or just watching TV. It's portable and puts out a righteous, soft breeze-for-one.

This fan is NOT cheap toys, rather a priceless personal appliance for anywhere the sun shines.

Now the bad news...well, actually, there is no bad news! As I write this long-overdue but well-deserved review, it is over two years since our 2015 trip to France. Since then we have purchased at least six more fans including the one I just received today (July 2017). It's keeping me cool as I write this review...it's 90 degrees here in Southern California.

We just returned from two more months of extensive traveling in Western Europe. This time six countries. We had two of these fans with us (no way we would travel without them). Again, FANtastic (could not resist...I am a marketing fella).

A word of caution on traveling. If you're traveling in planes, take precaution with the fan blades. I had been just stuffing the unit into my suitcase with my hard drives, cables and connector (yea, I'm a nerd). On one occasion (Boise 2016), one of the fan blades broke off while traveling. I tried glue, but it was hopeless. So I actually emailed manufacturer support (found it fast in my Amazon account) and they drop shipped a replacement fan to me while I was on-the-road. Who does that? Amazing! But lesson learned. Since then, I use a little zipper bag (think cheap cosmetic bag) around the head/blades when I travel..to give it some protection while jostling around in my suitcase. So far, so good.

What else can I say. I know this review must sound over-the-top but, honestly, this is one purchase you'll never regret. Okay, so here's another thought...the colors. Wow. Pick a flavor...like icing on the cake.

Review submitted. I seen my duty and done it. Thank you Arctic Breeze fan makers...whoever you are! BTW...I used my wife's account to submit this review.

ARCTIC Breeze - USB Desktop Fan with Flexible Neck and Adjustable Fan Speed I Portable Desk Fan for Home, Office I Silent USB Fan I Fan Speed 800 - 1800 RPM - Red ;o)
2019 UPDATE:

Let me start by saying that these are INCREDIBLE personal fans. They are really well made, remarkably quiet even at full throttle, light weight but relatively sturdy, and have a long USB cable which is sometimes much appreciated. My wife and I keep one each on our bed stands, using them during extensively through the warm months. We also each have one on our desks. I am using mine as I write this review.

We have bought a dozen or more over the past 5 years, both for ourselves and for friends/family as gifts. I posted a long-winded review a few years ago, but will follow up now with some additional comments.

We travel a lot. Every other summer we visit Europe extensively, sometimes for up to 4 months. Air conditioning is not always available. I actually bought my first Arctic Breeze while in South of France during a serious heatwave. As nary a fan of any kind could be found in a store, out of shear panic I ordered two from Amazon in the UK. Their website being in English, and my French being not so tres bien, I really didn't want to explore the Amazon France website. The Amazon UK and our U.S. account worked perfectly together (whew...good to know). And the shipping to France was not an issue.

These fans literally saved our lives, and that's not too much of an exaggeration. Older people (we were then in our late 60s) were dying in the heat! It was serious.

So the only mechanical issue could be a reinforcement at the junction point where the flex cable meets the base of the fan. Not that it is particularly weak, but with all the travelling we do, we literally stuff our fans into suitcases every few days as we travel from city to city, country to country. With all that handing, even squeezing the fans protectively between layers of underwear and socks, this has become a recurring weak point. I've "broken" 3 or 4 over the years, and just order new fans when we get home. I keep the old fans as they continue to work, albeit somewhat crippled. I've started using a zip lock baggie to protect the blades (which are fine), but the flex cable sometimes manages to "unthread" from the plastic base during transit...notably on flights and trains when the luggage is prone to being banged around.

I've considered keeping the cardboard original box, which protects the fan very well, but it simply takes up too much space in our luggage. If this connection point could be beefed up, perhaps with a metal-to-metal thread assembly, I would buy stock in the Acrtic Breeze company.

LOVE these little nomads!

Barely moves air...but it is super quiet.
by Kordless (2 out of 5 stars)
June 19, 2018

I bought this after an older usb fan that I had with plastic blades finally died. I was disappointed to not be able to find the same type on amazon anymore so I went with his because of the high reviews.

It's plus is that it is super quiet. It makes almost no noise at all. But that's mostly because I can exhale with more force than this fan has. I may put a video up showing how much power this has. But it's minimal, and I'm puzzled at the reviews saying this is adequate or moves air just fine. It barely move my hair when I put it directly in front of my face.

In case you think I might have gotten a dud, I actually bought two of them and neither one accomplished much. If it's spinning at 1700 rpm as the description says, It would only be because of how small it is, not because it has much power. Probably not worth the effort to return then because of the minimal cost, so I'll keep them and figure something out for them I guess. Disappointed.

Great fan - used to cool Surface Pro 4
by Shaun (5 out of 5 stars)
September 15, 2016

I bought this to keep my Surface Pro 4 cool when I'm at home. It's long enough to bend to hit the back of my SP4 and blow air where I want it to and it holds the shape you bend it very well. It also does a great job keeping my SP4 cool, I have it pointed at a 45 degree angle at the back of the SP4 so it blows the air at and across the back.

It's pretty quiet, there's just a low hum that's really impossible to avoid with any fan. The fan blades are plastic and surprisingly thick compared to what I expected. Honestly I could probably put this in my backpack and take it with me wherever I went without having to worry about breaking it.

One big thing I wish this had is an on/off switch. I didn't think to check before ordering it so it's not worth giving a lower rating for. It would be nice if the stem was longer, the length kind of limits how much you can bend it before the fan blades will hit the stem. It's long enough for what I need but another inch or so would be nice. Also because it's kind of short it would be nice to have the on/off switch so that you can adjust the fan while it's off but it's not a big deal.

Overall a great little fan and works great for cooling my SP4.

this is amazing, hence the 5 stars
by Renee G. (5 out of 5 stars)

For the price, this is amazing, hence the 5 stars. You like being outside but just wish on those hotter days you had a breeze? Problem solved!

Two things to be aware of (but that, for me, don't diminish the 5-star rating):
- This works best for a laptop if your USB input is near the front of your computer. Mine is, but my husband's (who I bought it primarily for) isn't. I get a nice solid breeze, his is a bit weaker because it's further away.
- There's no on/off switch (which I'm sure keeps the cost down), but it does mean that adjusting it the first time is a bit of a pain - you have to unplug it to stop the fan, hope you get the right angle right, and then try again. Minor, but something to be aware of.

Well built USB fan
by M. Lesak (5 out of 5 stars)

Happy with this fan. It's quiet and moves a decent amount of air. The fan can be stopped with your hand, but I would cautious around little ones as it does have some decent torque. I uploaded pictures of power draw on low and high. Comes in handy when you need to know how many watts it uses from a battery.

On low it draws ~ 0.9 watts

On high it draws ~ 2 watts

Great in a Hammock!
by Hathi,Top Contributor: Camping (5 out of 5 stars)
July 1, 2019

I am a hammock camper and was recently going on a trip where the forecast was high 70s at night. I bought this to help keep me cool and it worked "like a breeze!"

I used a lipstick-style power bank (5000 mAh) to connect to this fan. I used some Nite Ize reusable ties to connect the fan and power bank to my ridgeline. When I went to sleep, connected the power bank & fan, and enjoyed some cool air. Also kep the bugs away!

Lightweight and easy to use. Fit nicely into my backpack and was durable enough to last when it got jostled around by my hiking. A nice little hum as I drifted off to sleep.
