A great starter kit for building a quality bug out bag
by Todd K (5 out of 5 stars)
January 16, 2016

This is a good base to build upon and the price was very good in comparison to other bug out kits I looked at. The packs are decent quality and after repacking the two packs for my wife and I to keep at work, there is still plenty of room to add other items. I would consider the 4 person kit more of a robust 2 person kit with a few backup items. Overall, the quality of the items in the kit are decent. They are not top of the line, but neither is the price of the kit. I think this kit was a good value for what it included and will give me piece of mind that my wife and I are prepared if something would happen while we are at work.

If you are going to be using these as workplace bug out kits in order to get home or to your family rally point, I would recommend adding a knife, multi-tool, a second collapsible water bottle w/ filtering tabs, 2-way radios, sunscreen, lighters, a second first aid kit, a second emergency radio with charging capability, compass, flashlight and batteries. If you are using this as a bug out bag to leave your home, I would add everything previously mentioned along with change of clothes, personal hygiene items, and additional food/water.

It's a good beginner platform, but needs improvement.

This kit is okay. I was torn between 3 and 4 stars. I chose 3 stars because the items in the pack are not exactly top quality. My greatest qualm was that the second time I shouldered the pack I heard the straps begin to tear... I added a single change of clothes, some soap and deodorant and put it on again and the straps tore even more.

Ultimately I ended up removing all of the items from the this pack, upgraded the medical kit, shelter, and added a few personal items and transferred everything to a much higher quality bag.

This is great for someone who wants to begin building a survival bag or BOB, but don't rely on this setup fully. It definitely needs work.

Exactly what it claims to be!

This is a great product that I would recommend to anyone. It is exactly as it says, a 72 hour go bag. You will not be living long term out of this bag, and the tools/water purification included prove that, but there is plenty of room to expand. For a beginner or an all else fails situation, this bag will do perfectly fine in my opinion. I went through every single item and bag that was included and wrote them all down in a picture for the review. I will personally be adding better water filtration/purifying options, a few extra tools (knife, pocket saw, matches/lighter) but I would definitely buy this bag again. Actual backpacks are made in China and may not hold up to rigorous usage, but they will easily last 72 hours unless you are dragging it behind your vehicle or climbing over barbed wire. Also none of the pockets on the inside or outside are used when you get it, so once organized, will greatly increase available space.

Great starter for a GO Bag
by booly_booly (5 out of 5 stars)

I bought this after being assigned to give a lecture on emergency preparedness and Go Bags to a Deaf class in ASL. Why mention that? Because these bags were packed with everything you need to start a good Go Bag. And included documentation on the bag and the items within was not heavily worded, essential for those for whom English is a second language.

I was surprised at the quality of the backpacks that hold all the items within. I expected the bags to be cheap, but they are well made and construction and straps work well to balance even heavy loads on ones back. I also selected these bags because they are not eye-catchy, they are medium sized, gray bags that no one will look twice at. If we need to use them in an emergency, I just want to be unnoticed. I don't want my go bag to scream, 'I HAVE SURVIVAL SUPPLIES'. These bags pack all you need, without looking like they do.

Great Variety of Items for a Budget
by zacfreundt (4 out of 5 stars)

This is a great starting point for any emergency bag. I opted for the 4 person kit and I'm glad I did. After reading the original reviews, I was a little worried about what I would be getting, however I put my faith into the positive ones and it paid off. Here are some of the pros and cons of this kit.

Pro:

Very neatly package items. They come organized in ziplock bags and are very easy to break down.

The bag is black and doesn't say EMERGENCY on it. I know for some people that's not a big deal, but the two bags I received were the ones pictured. Glad to not have a bag that screams out at everyone.

Very lightweight. I was pleased to find how lightweight these items are. Though many have are very good quality.

Cons:

The bags are a nice fallback if you don't have anything else, but the straps are a bit cheap. I can see it holding up for a few weeks, but I suspect the bags may break after regular use.

As I said before, this is a great starting place for anyone looking to build a "bug out bag". You could probably get by with the stuff included, but I recommend supplementing these items. The bags have plenty of room to build upon.

Summary: Inexpensive, good variety of items to start your bag

Good starting point for prepping
by Jessica (5 out of 5 stars)
February 23, 2017

I got the 4 person kit. I'm getting my disaster kit set up for my new house and this is the first time I've ever had to do this. This seems like a good starting point to get all your basic necessities and then customize as needed (especially if you're feeling overwhelmed or unsure about how to begin prepping). The supplies all seemed to be decent quality--not the very best you could find, but decent. The backpacks are comfortable. There's a ton of extra room in the bags for additional supplies (it would be heavy, but everything would fit into one bag).

Couple of cons:
2 of the toothbrushes were super cheap quality. I'll probably throw them out and get 2 travel toothbrushes (similar to the other 2 that came in the kit).

All the supplies are individually wrapped and/or placed inside waterproof bags...except for the toilet paper. Not a big deal, but seems like a weird oversight.

The food has different expiration dates--2 pkgs have 5yrs shelf life, 2 only have 4yrs left. Just make sure you note that so you can rotate out your supplies at the right time.

Good quality, highly recommended

This is a fantastic go bag. It has plenty of room to add your own stuff (I added things like a compact saw, a lifestraw, my medications, a change of clothes etc.), but the items inside are good quality and the expiration date for the water and food bricks (which surprisingly I'm not allergic to - and I'm allergic to everything) is 5 years away. The bag itself is also good quality and it's easy to carry. I keep one in my apartment and in my car just in case, and it's really relieving to have. I definitely recommend this as a good starter bag.

Pretty Complete Kit and room to add a bit more
by JJR (5 out of 5 stars)

I got his pack thinking to have all the basic "storm needs" covered and it does. It's loaded with just enough for 2 people - the 72 hrs. is for that brick of foodstuff - so it is a total bug out kit. The pack is large and does have room for a few more items. It's a good companion to our Hurricane Preparedness Shelf - that we hope to never have to use, but we're ready. I recommend this for a good basic kit for 2 - and you can replace some items as they are used (toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.) I added in some floss. They sent me a complete list of inventory that's included now as a checklist what to replace when things are used, what to add and what to discard. Request that list from the maker and it is a necessary addition to the pack. It was very helpful. And, I LOVE that this was a prime shipping item. It came well packed double boxed. Great find.

Good kit. The pet section is over priced
by frequentbuyer (4 out of 5 stars)
April 11, 2019

It is a good kit and has many things that will come in handy in an emergency. The backpack could be a little larger. The pet kit is supposed to be carried separately; but I was able to take the stuff out of that bright red case and fit it in the backpack with little room to spare. Funny, the backpack sells the feature of being discrete unlike other brands that are a bright color, but the pet kit they sell is bright red. The regular kit is a good value. The pet kit is too expensive for what you get.

This is pretty good for the price
by Amazon Customer (4 out of 5 stars)

This is pretty good for the price. Definitely some important things missing, like a fire starter kit. And the "5-in-1 whistle" is just a whistle with a broken compass on the end, so find something that can do all three (found one on amazon for $7). Not as heavy as I thought, or as full. There's plenty of room for spare clothes and/or food, just make sure you pack them right and use the 5 zippered pockets on the outside. Last note: the description of the flashlight kinda stinks. It's a hand crank with a charging port, radio, and alarm. Make sure you have a usb cable that will work for your phone (or whatever else you'll need).
