Longtime Coming!

I added an earlier version of this tie rack to my wishlist more than a year ago. It was listed at $99.99 from Sharper Image. Two months later, I went to purchase it and it was marked, "currently unavailable." Finally two months ago, as I was doing my usual Amazon browsing, I spotted this one that looks identical to the original for $49.99 and I threw it into the cart and placed the order. Got it and mounted it on a closet pole that I made out of 1" conduit. No tools needed and it clamped onto the pole securely without much effort on the thumbscrew. Loaded the "C" cells and loaded up ALL of my ties, skipping two hangers between each tie, (apparently I only own 26 ties) It works almost flawlessly. I found that if I press too hard on the switches, the tie rack will rotate downward but just a slight push upward, sends it back to level. A little friction tape on the closet pole and re-clamping the tie rack solved that issue. I probably won't use the belt hook accessory since my belts are much, much longer than my ties, but I have told the kids and grandkids that I would actually appreciate ties as gifts for Christmas, Fathers' Day, Birthdays, etc. At least until I can fill up all 72 hooks. I can't really find anything negative about this purchase - the usual great Amazon experience, great product, and it seems durable. The ONLY issue I have is how fast the ties go by. But that's why there's a reverse button or not really a long wait until they go by again. Maybe it will slow down when the batteries get weaker but that seems like it will be awhile. Battery life seems good. I highly recommend this tie rack, even if you only have 26 ties. It's a time saver, it keeps ties neat, and encourages you to put the ties back where they belong.

I bought this as a gift but was a little concerned about some of the negative reviews regarding installation. The recipient LOVES it since he was only looking to replace the tie rack (also made by Sharper Image) that he had already gotten many excellent years of use out of.

I explained that some reviewers had complained about a screw being in the way and it not fitting properly on a clothing rod. He knew exactly what mistake had been made by those who had trouble: there is an adjustable screw (has black plastic on the head) that goes underneath the tie rack that you must first loosen with your fingers (no screwdriver required) and then tighten so that the tie rack is secured flush and stays in place on the clothing rod. It did come with installation instructions but he didn't even need them. He is very happy with his new tie rack and expects it to last another 15 to 20 years, based upon previous experience with a Sharper Image tie rack.

I am thinking that the difference between having a wooden clothing rod or a metal one MIGHT be an issue. Ours is made of wood but perhaps metal could be a problem because the flat screw may slip and not keep traction as well. Just a thought. The image shows a metal clothing rod though.

I will also note that he seemed to be having a lot of fun playing with his new tie rack right after he took it out of the box. It has separate left, right and stop buttons so it operates in both directions like a motorized clothing rack at a dry cleaners. A light comes on as soon as you touch a button and shines down on the front area as it circulates and this goes off automatically after a reasonable amount of time so the batteries will not die. It appeared to be every bit the mean, clean, tie rack machine that I had read about in so many positive reviews of this product.

Great Unit!

My old tie rack of ten years (brand unknown) died with a failed motor. After browsing around and reading reviews, I settled on this one, mostly because I have had good luck with other Sharper Image products. Easy to install and has plenty of capacity. Some have said it is too slow but I disagree. Unless I am looking for one particular tie, I have to stop and go, stop and go, while I peruse the choices. Otherwise they fly by too fast to get a good visual. If you have the slightest handyman experience, you can get it to hang just about anywhere. My closet has wire-rack shelving. (not by choice) The bar for hangers is about 3/8 of an inch in diameter. I used sponges on the the top of front and rear to keep the unit from swing back and forth.

Bought this for my Bro-in-law for his birthday and boy does he love it. He said it was easy to install and loaded all his ties on it and it works great. Would highly recommend it. When I visited I took a look at it and I was very impressed. It goes around fast and backs up and lights up. If I wore ties I get myself one , too. Very nice. Thanks

I am thoroughly enjoying this item. It has really improved the organization of my ties and it allows me to easily find the right tie for every occasion. It is a bit difficult to balance the item and I've had to come up with a creative solution to ensure that it remains in perfect balance even when adding and removing ties.

Best tie rack ever, except...

The only problem is a freak ,malfunction with the light. It will come on randomly and stay on from minutes to hours. I cannot disconnect it without cutting the cords, so I am waiting to see if it really runs down the battery. I have had it just over a month. It is strong, durable, fits neatly into the closet, has plenty of space, and looks nice. If the light runs down my battery however, I will have to cut the cords or the tie rack will become obsolete! I wish it had an option to turn off the light because it is really unnecessary during the day time.

My husband loves this rack...it is perfect!! Well worth spending a few extra dollars for this item. It works without a hitch and was easy to install. The light it provides is bright which is great for a closet...He loves it!!!

I got a different one as a gift. Motor was weak and did not hold all my regular use ties. I have this one loaded FULL and it has plenty of engine.
