The magnet should be INSIDE the sign

The sign itself is great. It's rubber and durable. By itself, it gets 5 stars. The only problem is the magnet. In the packaging and item description, nowhere does it say that the sign doesn't stick to the dishwasher itself (I bought it quickly and didn't read all the comments). It requires a small magnet that has to be removed and replaced. If you have children (or some pets), this becomes a choking hazard. A child could easily pull the sign off the fridge and get a hold of the magnet. Plus it's a pain. I kept dropping it when I flipped it.

The product should replace the metal plate inside with a magnet so no external one is needed. I ended up opening mine with a knife and super gluing the magnet inside. Looks a little funny, but it works.

If you don't care about the magnet, then buy this item. The sign itself is exactly what I expected and wanted.

Was really disappointed when this came in the mail. I hadn't realized that the sign itself wasn't a magnet, and wish I had taken even a second to look over this item's reviews before buying. I don't know why they didn't make that clearer in the add. Maybe a picture of the sign on the washer machine from a side view to clarify how it stays in place? The second I put it on my washer machine, I found myself thinking, "Dog's going to snatch that off easily..."

Already looking for a replacement.

Great size, easy to mount, easy to read

A lot of people have complained that this is not a magnet itself. I do not have a problem with that. In fact, I think it works out better! My dishwasher seems low, so the "clean/dirty" magnet this is replacing was hard to read d/t the angle/distance from my face. I have had dishwashers in the past that were not all metal -- seems like dishwashers were all metal, then they weren't for a while, and now they are again. I ended up putting this magnetic sign right over the Maytag emblem -- an area that is NOT metal and I think that is the best spot! Because of the new spot, I would need a set up just like this -- a small round magnet glued to the plastic top -- just above the door handle, and the sign sticks to it. It's large font and easy to read and it was an easy install! Very happy with my purchase. This would really work with any DW.

Magnet needs upgrade

It's one of the cooler signs, and it comes with a small, watch-battery-sized magnet with some adhesive.

Stick the magnet where you want it (presumably, the dishwasher), then the sign sticks to the magnet.

However, I'm going to end up ordering a stronger adhesive magnetic, because the sign falls every time we open the dishwasher door.

Still like the sign.

This little dishwasher sign is super cute! I bought it to help keep the family informed on what's happening in the dishwasher (somehow they still "forget" to put dirty dishes in the dishwasher). However, it's annoying that the actual sign doesn't have a strong enough magnet inside of it to be able to just throw it onto the dishwasher itself. Instead, I have to use the included round magnet but the sign still falls off every single time I open the dishwaser door (save a few times if I've placed it JUST right - still haven't figured out what "just right" is yet). I have a stainless steel dishwasher, so the door is magnetic. I didn't have to glue the included magnet onto my dishwater, just place it there with the protective covering. It's a tough little magnet, and hold the sign fine without falling off, but it's the sign itself that sucks. I read the reviews before I purchased and just thought I'd deal with it anyway. Now I'm wishing I had just listened and bought another magnet instead. The only redeeming quality of this product is that it is really cute.

Was really bummed with this purchase. It gives you a tiny magnet like the size of a dime to permanently affix to your dishwasher, and then the actual sign is a rubber coated metal you set on said magnet. But the magnet was too small and not really strong enough, plus then the item was never flush with the surface. A light breeze would knock it off the dishwasher.

I would have returned it but the cost to ship it back made it not worth it. I ended up throwing it out after we tried using it for like a week.

It was a bummer, I normally like Fred & Friends products... but this was not a good buy

Cute sign, but since the sign itself is not magnetic, to attach this you'll have to use the included disc magnet (which is not pictured on the item description page, but is obnoxiously small... It's about the size of the "W" in the word "we're" on this sign.) Because the magnet is so small, this thing is a complete pain in the butt to keep attached to the dishwasher door. Not worth the money at all. I could think of at least three different ways of making this sign that would have been easier to handle (although probably not as dirt cheap for whatever pinch-penny manufacturer made this.)

Works well and helps keep track of clean and dirty dishes. One thing to note is that the sign itself is not the magnetic part that attaches directly to the dishwasher, but rather a tiny round magnet that resembles a watch battery is placed on the door itself and the silicone-rubbery sign attaches to the magnet which remains on the door. The pro of this function is that it is much easier to lift up the edges of the sign and flip it, the con is that the tiny metal magnet that stays on the door is not encased in any kind of rubber or plastic, so I notice it leaves small markings on our white dishwasher door. Most of the markings rub off, but some of them may have etched into the surface. For a stainless or black dishwasher, I wouldn't think it would be a problem. Even with a white dishwasher I don't think it's a deal breaker, unless you are trying to keep the door completely immaculate with no signs of wear. The signs of wear on our dishwasher are hardly noticeable.

Quirky and Useful

We love our dishwasher magnet! It is quirky but still practical on telling us if they are clean or not. It is made very nicely and not cheaply. Compared to others it is amazing on price and a lot better quality for the price then I was expecting. Only reason it did not receive five stars from me is how it attaches to the dishwasher. It flips side to side attaching to a magnet that is on your dishwasher. What was not stated is that they wanted you to permanently attach the magnet to your dish washer. I didn't want to do that because I knew we won't be living in the house we are in forever and when we replace the dish washer in the future I would still want to use it. Thankfully it still works without adhering it to the dish washer. It's such a strong magnet it didn't need me to attach it with the adhesive thankfully and has stayed on for weeks now. Extremely happy with this purchase and looking at buying some for Christmas presents for family.

I like it but...

Pretty cool concept. Clean on one side, Dirty on the other. Completely rubber with a magnet inside so it won't scratch. The only thing I don't like is how heavy it is. I didn't think it would be a problem until I realized my dishwasher door is not metal, so it doesn't stick. No problem. there's a little metal disc that comes with the product that sticks to you non-metallic dishwasher front and the magnetic sign sticks to that. Only problem there is that the disc is about the size of a dime and, as I stated before, the sign is heavy. So it stays in place pretty well as long as you fiddle with it to get it positioned so it doesn't hang crooked. And if you don't mind picking it up off of the floor every other time you open the dishwasher; but hey, it gives you the chance to turn your sign around, right? I'm sure if my dishwasher had a metallic front it would work just fine.
