Tip on Receivers - ARC out & AnyNet+, Turn off
by Nbot (5 out of 5 stars)
November 9, 2014

If you're about to make the plunge on this TV, congrats. I won't go into all the stuff that most people have already touched on, but I'll add a few points:
1. If you hate the "soap-opera" effect (the missus & I do), then simply disable the Auto Motion Plus (Menu>>Picture>>Picture Options>>Auto Motion Plus>>OFF). Yes, the image will appear slightly less "wowza!" but we are just too old school I guess, we couldn't handle the change.
2. If you are wondering how to hook this up to an AV Receiver, you need to make sure that the receiver you are purchasing supports ARC out. I paired this with a Marantz NR1605 7.1 Slim Line 4K Ultra HD A/V Receiver with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
. With this Samsung, you know they use a "One Connect Box" which "all" HDMI & audio cables are routed to, and from which a proprietary cable is output with the feed to the TV. So, you can't plug in your cable feed to the receiver, and then "out" to the TV like in normal setups (I mean you could, but then you wouldn't maximize the Samsung Smart Hub, guide software, and IR remote control of your cable box etc). But, this Marantz supports ARC, meaning you plug an HDMI cable in the "HDMI OUT" port (also labeled "ARC") and run that HDMI to the Samsung One Connect Box; no other cables are "input" into the Marantz...just the speaker wires out and the ARC/HDMI out. The cable inputs into the One Connect Box as well. The Samsung is able to handle the Marantz's volume level through the Samsung TV remote via the Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC)HDMI cable running back to the Marantz's ARC. If you need to adjust the Marantz's settings, the user interface displays on the Samsung's Input #3.

It took me a while to find out how to enable the AnyNet+ to control the Marantz and send the sound back out to the Marantz, but you can find it under MENU>>SETTINGS>>ANYNET+, also enable the "Auto On" feature so when you hit the power On button on the Samsung TV remote, it also powers on the AV receiver.
3. GLARE: 2 tips: 1, get this TV mounted on your wall, and use a mount that has "tilt." The TV should be up at the correct height, and then slightly tilted back down to you. That will help some with overhead lights, but honestly, any lights directly behind the TV or above it I always turn off as I do see the glare. 2) I rely on wall scones on my side walls or use lamps set on the side of the room.

I hope this was helpful.

Do not fear that it is 2014 model! Beats anything in its price range from 2015 hands down!

Absolutely love this TV! I am not a TV expert and have not tested tons of TVs, but this is one of the best TVs I have seen in this price range. Do not be scared of it being a year old model. It was the top of the line version of 2014 so has pretty much all the same features if not more than the lower end models of 2015 in the same price range. I was a little worried that having a 4k TV when the incoming signal was only 1080p or less was going to have some issues or not look as good, but you can't tell any difference from a 1080p TV. The BluRay movies I have watched on PS3 also look fantastic. I can only imagine how awesome the 4k will look when it is more widely available. Have not had a chance to try out the 3D yet. I also love the smart remote. It is very annoying trying to type things in searches on standard remotes but the "laser pointer like" function of the remote where you just point at what you want to click and hit the button rather than doing the over over over up up tapping of old remotes was awesome. So much easier to use.

Below are some of my favorite features so far:
- Curved screen is great...can view from almost any angle with good clarity
- Smart remote with the point feature, very easy and convenient
- Picture is awesome
- Camera on top is probably cool, though I haven't used it to chat yet
- Setup was pretty easy
- Connection box is nice that you can have all wires hidden away rather then all going up to TV
- It comes with 4 sets of 3D glasses
- The PRICE! I got this at the $1500 price since it is 2014 model and you can't beat this TV for that price!

Excellent TV so far...can't wait to continue trying more features and fine tuning my settings.

Save some money and buy this model - Well worth it!

Okay so I've been shopping for a UHD TV for about 7 months waiting for the right deal. I can afford a high end TV but I don't like to pay through the nose for the most up to date models unless they are so superior that I can't help myself. I've kept up to date on the new Samsung, Sony and LG OLED high end UHD TVs for 2015. LG was ruled out because their OLED models are still much too expensive, Sony's are very nice but also pricey. When the new Samsungs finally arrived at the local Best Buy I went down there to check them out myself. Looking at the JS9000 and JS9500 side by side it was really hard to tell the difference between the 2. Just as I was checking them out a salesperson put an open box HU9000 up for closeout sale. What struck me was how difficult it was to tell the difference between the newer models and the HU9000. Sure the colors popped a little more but other than that I really couldn't see much difference at all. And given the newer models would set me back at least another 2K I just couldn't justify it. So I checked out Amazon Warehouse and found an HU9000 at about $3400 less than I would've paid for the flagship JS9500. I pulled the trigger and after having watched this TV for a week or so I have absolutely no regrets. The picture is stunning; deep blacks, accurate color, no blur and the feature set is really slick. I wasn't sure about the curve at first but it's really growing on me. After a while I don't even notice it's there but it does add a sort of cinema surround effect. Plus it is a beautiful TV that adds a lot to my living room. Had the family over this past weekend and when the TV was turned on the conversation eventually stopped while everyone was admiring the TV. I highly recommend this model.

Picture is amazing

The picture is amazing. The setup is easy, although I couldn't remember my WIFI password and couldn't take advantage of online updates that are connected to setting up the TV. Everything else is great though and the clarity is awesome. I love the separate TV box which you connect all of your components to and a single cable going to your TV from that. You don't have to swing the TV around to hook up new components and the separate box is easy to get to since it is small. They offered to set it up for me on delivery but I do all that myself. I just had them drop the box off in my living room and I did the rest.

Very happy customer

Got 65" size version. So far impressions are great, with one hiccup (explained later).

TV looks great in our living room, in the corner. It is not mounted but is on TV stand. I watch it from about 9.5 feet distance and this is perfect for me, as my vision is not that great. Use it to watch 3d Bluray, regular Bluray, Comcast cable, Apple TV (iTunes movies), Netflix (built-in App), Skype with my daughter (built-in), and presentations from MacBook Pro for meetings with my team. Everything is looking great so far. For sound I use Yamaha YSP-4300 soundbar so can't tell anything about TV's built-in sound. DVD player is Samsung BD-F7500 (you should turn upscaling off in the player as TV does upscaling better internally). Bluray and Bluray 3d looks great, regular DVDs just OK. Using it as computer screen for presentations is just amazing, better than anything else I've seen for this purpose. With my vision to see the difference between regular HD and 4K streaming from Netflix requires getting up from a couch and coming closer to screen, but that is what I expected.

One hiccup: after initial setup and upgrading firmware to latest built-in Netflix App did not work. The reason was that it could not read Electronic Serial Number from the TV, and Netflix servers require it to be present. To resolve I connected to Samsung support via video-chat, wait was less than a minute. Gave remote control of the TV to support person, she reset the Apps (only support can do it) and it was fine. Is is obviously a bug in current firmware so if you run into it just contact support and ask them to reset all Apps.

So far very happy customer.

Beautiful Samsung with a decent price tag.

I purchased a discounted "like new" Samsung UN55HU9000 Curved 55-Inch 4K Ultra HD 120Hz 3D Smart LED TV from Abes of Maine Cameras and Electronics. The current price through Amazon is $2,497.99 but I was able to pick this "like new" TV for $1,775.00. It took five days to arrive and I am very happy with this purchase. Only complaint is no expedited shipping, no biggie.

As for the TV itself I have only used it for one night and haven't had a chance to mess with the picture/settings to much. So far I've tried it on the XBOX One, which looks beautiful. My PC, no games yet as I just learned that I need to rename my hdmi/dvi port to PC so it will run at the best configuration. Netflix 4k, I've started re-watching the Breaking Bad TV show and it looks absolutely amazing.

I am going to be using this TV as my primary computer screen, I figure the curved screen, 55inch size, and 4k resolution will be the ultimate set up for me. I just need to order the gtx980 now. This is going to be one sweet setup for GTA5 on PC!

Update 4/9/2015

Was able to play around some more with this TV. Just wanted to note a couple things that I've discovered that I have and haven't seen in a review. The glare is an issue with lights on in a room, not an issue for me as I have my room blacked out and very dark. You can only PIP air and antenna. I was wanting to be able to PIP my PC, XBOX, and the Netflix app as wanted. Was unable to multi-screen these as well. Hopefully an updated firmware version will allow this.

Update 4/13/2015

I've got the TV picture configured to my preferences now. This TV has great picture customization options. I've also gotten my GTX980 installed now and am running 4k on the PC. Video games look absolutely amazing, even with the games that don't have 4k textures.

Great TV picture and functioning, poor planning on separate input module.
by K (5 out of 5 stars)
July 18, 2017

This TV was made in 2014 and is still a great TV. Received with dead 3D glass batteries (all 8 of them) but the vendor issued a replacement refund. The picture and functioning is great (neat pointer style remote).

The only thing I did (and didn't) like was the separate input module. There are only 2 connections going to the TV: Power cable and input module. You connenct everything in and out through the input module, sort of like a separate HDMI switch with all the audio ins/outs too. Makes it so you don't have to pull the TV out to change connections around but, on the down side, leaves another bulky piece of equipment in the entertainment center and also requires an additional power plug.

Great tv;but the glasses are cheaply made.

The tv is great, the 3D effect is great. The down side is the the glasses;they work great;but they are extremely fragile

I am a 70 yr. old senior and I am extremely careful with the glasses;but the plastic is so thin that they break. I received four pairs of glasses with my tv and I've had to repair every on of them with plastic epoxy. I've had this tv less than a year and a half.I called Samsung and they said they haven't received any other concerns about the glasses---B.S.

The best TV I owned
by Arash (5 out of 5 stars)
April 30, 2015

This is the best TV iv ever owned. The only problem I found about this tv is that when I connect my 4k tv box through HDMI port, when I change the resolution to 4k, tv says this resolution is not supported. in 1080P 50 or 60 hz you see some blinks and it's really annoying but it works in 1080P 24hz fine. I was hoping I could get 4k resolution through HDMI.

But the picture and black level of this TV is amazing. You will easily forget about motion detector or voice command after a while because they Are not very easy to use. It's easier to use remote control instead of moving your finger to the air hoping it detects your move and sometimes when you want to grab your tea from table, the pointer follows your hand.

I like the curve and i can easily see the picture when I'm in my massage chair that is almost beside the tv.

The 3d is much better that other TV I owned before but still my eyes get tired after 30 minutes.

At all I love this TV and give it 5 star.

Great TV, Great Customer Service!
by Brett (5 out of 5 stars)
January 2, 2015

I initially ordered this TV over Thanksgiving this year due to the Black Friday sale. I received the TV on Dec 12th and the guys who delivered it were very courteous and helped me put it in the stand and power it on to make sure it worked.

Unfortunately, I noticed after a few days of use that TV had very bad flash lighting effect and the lower left corner had a very bad light leak. (Looked like the frame was squeezed too tight in that area). No matter what settings I changed I could not reduce the flashlighting effect. It was almost if the local dimming was broken and the edge lights were on all the time.

I contacted Amazon and arrange an exchange. Amazon arranged to have the replacement dropped off and the defective unit taken at the same time. I thought this was excellent as I did not have to request them to do both on the

same day. :)

Anyway, I have had the replacement running for about 2 days and it is beautiful! A night and day difference. I absolutely no flashlighting or light bleed. The blacks look the same or better than my first gen FALD Samsung that this TV replaced. The colors are excellent as well. I couldn't be happier! So if anyone suffers from flashlighting, this is certainly not normal for this set.

I definitely recommend this TV and give Amazon customer service 5 stars !
