The degree of improvement in sound quality depends on the ...

The degree of improvement in sound quality depends on the quality of the source and player. The improvement from a 2 yr old top-tier PC notebook is astonishing, while the improvement from my new PC motherboard with high quality sound is modest. Newer Samsung Android phones benefit as do iPhones. It doesn't work with all USB cables so one must be careful. I use it with Grado 80e headphones or 1More triple driver in-ear phones and both sound spectacular with regard to the depth of soundstage and the detail.

Sounds great just too big & clunky for my liking.

If I carried a purse I'd probably give it 5 stars. It's just too big for a pocket and the leather case accompanied with doesn't really help. It with my iPhone is like carrying five iPhones. The Denon is four iPhones thick..............

But as for sound quality for the price it's a no brainer. As a desktop DAC/amp or add-on to a laptop it's great. But try to tote around with your phone it's too clunky. I'd recommend an OPPO if you can find one for a decent price.

Sound cuts out at normal/low output

The sound cuts out at normal (or lower) sound levels for both my Denon AH-D5000 and D7200. The sound is great when turned up above normal/tolerable listening levels (my old Fiio E7 works fine for both).

GREAT portable AMP, DAC not as good as SCHIIT MODI 2 (updated)
by Mau (4 out of 5 stars)
March 14, 2018

would have loved to give it 5 stars but while using it in DAC mode, i kept hearing an audio skip every now and then which is disappointing .

I thought it was just my laptop/ driver issues but I connected my Sony Z3 by means of OTG cable and and there it was again..I dont know if this is a defect or mine alone was.

Audio through the AUX in input through the headphone output worked perfectly but not being able to fully enjoy this amp as a stand alone DAC is a bummer. overall I got it to use as a portable amp for my on the go needs.

with its 24hr battery life is a real killer tho i never went past 15hrs before charging it but Im confident this amp wouldnt die on me if I ever needed to go a little more then 15hrs.

I compared this Denon DA10 in Dac mode with my schitt Modi 2, compared to each other the Modi 2 beats the Denon DA10.

might just be my ears but seems like the Denon DA10 cant be used as a stand alone Dac without passively amplifying the audio signal sent to it through either the MICRO USB or the AUX input.

I had to test it out through a couple powered speakers including my Audioengine HD3 powered speakers while sound signature was very neutral which I love, felt off.

reminiscent to when I plugin one my many portable dac/amps (fiio E07k, E12, Sony PHA-1A) to my computer and line the audio from my computer, through output of amps headphone jack (cause they all lack a dedicated line out) and out to my powered speakers.

is why I start to think maybe it cant Dac without passively amping itself.

ofc I am by no means a Audiophile expert and this is my first experience with the Burr-Brown PCM-1795 32-bit DAC chip so in the end ppl would have to give it a listen for themselves :)

alls I hear is the sound on my Audioengine HD3 is alot fuller when connected to my Shiit Modi 2 and the BASS wow, hands down beats the DA10.

worth the money to me cause I love the neutral sound it gives when paired with Headphones.

UPDATE: tho i no longer have my Sony Z3 android phone to test if this Denon amp still skips or stutters, it no longer skips or stutters on my computer which is freaking awesome!

maybe this denon amp needs a longer burn in as I hear some amps do require hours of playback to get the fullest sound out of them so, maybe that was the case for mine.

Worth every penny.

This is a great device. I have a Yamaha Pro 400 headphones and man does it sound alive now with this device. It really does bring out so much range and details in music I didn't hear before. Didn't care for the case, doesn't really hold my iPhone six plus. Hard to listen to music without this device now that I know the difference in sound. Well worth the investment.

I bought two of this amazing DACs from the seller
by Eric H (5 out of 5 stars)

I bought two of this amazing DAC from the seller. It is the best USB-DAC under $200 today since it outperforms up to 32 bit/192kHz upon the source. The "Driver" can be easily downloaded from Denon USA website, it also gives a pull-down screen for resolution and sampling frequency selections. The sound output is pretty balanced with details and low noise to me. I do not feel tired by a long listening period, not other 2 DACs can do to me. Looking up it's review in Japan, an audiophile grade USB-DAC! I rated 5-Star because of performance, musicality and price. It is a steal to my opinion!

Great DAC as should be expected from Denon

I read all the online reviews before I buy something. Well so many really nickpicked this Portable DAC/Headphone amp. Luckily I ignored them and bought it. The Denon DA10 is really a great DAC that can be used both for headphones and fixed stereo systems. It sounds great as you should expect from Denon. As good as or better than other DAC's in its price range. Amazon had it at close to half price which made it a great buy. I own several pairs of Denon headphones as well and Sennheiser HD 600's. This DAC works with all of them and brings out the nuances of the music. I listen to classical, folk, country, and jazz. This DAC/Amp performs well with all plus it handles Hi Res audio including DSD. Remember you will need a Hi Res music player to get the most out of it as well as Hi Res music Just using iTunes won't do it. But adding BitPerfect to iTunes will get you Hi Res or using Vox among others will as well. Does it beat the Chord Mojo? Probably not but its cost far less. Highly recommended. Now that the iPhone 7 doesn't have headphone jack the iPhone lightning connection to this amp is especially handy.
