It took a year of trial and error to perfect the exact "ultrasonic welding" geometry that joins the clear plastic parts together and allows this cup to mimic the elegant shape of a pint glass. The plastic had to be engineered to handle expansion and contraction from the gel freezing as well as extreme cold and warm conditions.

Cup pops its top

Although these were a replacement set they had the same problem as the first set. The plastic rim popped and then separated from the cup. The gel was exposed at the break. Like I said this is the second set so save your money because these don't work.

Good concept, but the smell is a turn-off. Takes a long time to become faint enough to be usable.

These work as advertised and will chill your white wine reasonably quickly in the glass. We have them a year now and are just starting to lose a plastic chemical smell that has detracted from their use, which is why I'm giving it only 3 stars. Not sure if some magic solvent would have gotten rid of the 'new plastic' smell sooner without damaging the plastic. We've tried cleaning them with dish soap and water enough without the smell going away it must be some characteristic of the plastic itself.

IF they could get rid of the smell before shipping, it would be a 5 star product for sure.

We got them on a lightning deal and liked the concept so much we bought two more after the deal was over ... before we knew about the smell.

Update 12/26/2016: We gave a set to my sister in law - one of hers cracked in the freezer from freezing and thawing (not dropped!) on its own within a few months of our giving it to her. I wish she'd told us earlier as we could have maybe complained and gotten it replaced, but she just threw it away. So minus one star for that.

Split open the first time it was put in the freezer

One of the glasses split wide open the first time it was put in the freezer, the crack was about half an inch at its widest and ran about 50% of the way around the perimeter of the glass. Apparently this is a common occurrence for these. It's hard to believe that can occur in a product meant to be frozen, especially when they're $10 per glass. Seems like determining the expansion percentage of the freezing gel would be pretty basic engineering, but I guess not.

I am not a fan if drinking out of plastic glassware. However a friend served me a citrus martini in a Host Martini Glass and I was impressed. The drinking edge is thin so it feels more like drinking out of a regular glass than a typical plastic glass and I did not notice that "plastic odor" I associate with plastic glasswear. I came home from the visit and immediately ordered a set of the pint glasses (that was over four months ago). I am very glad I ordered a set and have been using the glasses daily since I received them. When not in use, I keep the glasses in my freezer (stored horizontally). I wash them and let them dry before putting them back in the freezer. I love how they keep my prechilled beer, Hint Water, and other drinks icy cold, for an extended period of time, without ice cubes diluting beverages. I also love how the glasses quickly chill room temperature bottled water without the use of ice. I recently ordered the stemless wine glasses and have been giving Host Glasses to friends as gifts (I remind them not to put the glasses in the dishwasher!). Everyone loves them and no one has complained about them cracking or breaking or being too heavy! . These are perfect for use in RVs, on patios, around pets, etc...no Broken glass to worry about if one gets knocked over.

Fell Apart

Not worth the money. They were great for the first couple of times using them. One has completely come apart at the seam and all the stuff in the bottom that freezes leaked out. The other one looks like it won't be long before it falls apart as well. Would not recommend anyone to purchase these.

I bought these for my husband after loving the wine glass ones so much. While these work wondefully, even with hand washing them, they cups have seperated and the gel comes out- meaning they have to be thrown away. We are down to 2 of the 4 I ordered. I would not buy them again.

It's a great idea and actually worked really well at keeping the beverage cold. Problem is...the gel leaked out of the bottom the very first time I used it, so in the end it is just messy and useless. Too bad

INFERIOR PRODUCT

I have ordered these cooling cups twice. The first order split almost immediately and was returned. However, I did love the idea of this freeze cup for my wine so I reordered another set. This last set lasted longer than the first, but have also split in half. Very disappointed and I will return this last order since I think $25.00 is an exorbitant price for this inferior product.
