Great, if it wasn't defective!

I bought this a while back for my son. It was his second Plexus. I bought it even though the first one had broken (a piece inside had broken off). I thought my son was just hard on it. In any case, the other one kept his interest for ages! This one mysteriously lost him shortly after getting it. He said it was "too hard." I thought he'd eventually come back to it. Nope. So today, I picked it up. I asked him how far he had ever gotten. He said number 19. I was like, "Huh?!" So I decided to try it. I was at 19 in a couple of tries. Then I noticed the ball was no longer moving. And there was nothing I could do to get it through the hole it needed to go through to get to #20. Upon closer inspection, I realized the tunnel through which the ball has to fall was not aligned with the slot in which it sat. I tried banging on the ball to push it in and no luck. So, about $50 later, we have a useless piece of plastic that will now be thrown out. If I had it to do again, I would not waste my money. Pictures attached.

Design flaw

My husband was super excited about this perplexus. We have a few of the other ones and love the challenge and we're looking forward to trying this one out. I was really dissapointed to see how much the decorative design on the outside impaired your ability to see the maze. It was a huge distraction. There's also a part of the maze that seems near impossible to complete due to a faulty track. Very dissapointed in this one because we love all the others so much! Giving it a three star review because it read other reviews stating the same thing and decided to purchase anyway.

Unique Perplexus puzzle!

This perplexus puzzle is a very unique item! I would definitely recommend it for any star wars fan! It lights up and plays the traditional lightsaber sounds while you are running through the puzzle. Almost makes it sound like they are fighting inside! You do have the option to turn the lights and sound on or leave them off. It also comes with a base for displaying the puzzle. It is a very sturdy item and does not seem like it would fall apart anytime soon.

Two steps forward, three steps back.

With the exception of the mini perplexus which I just learned existed, I have done all of the perplexi and have found that each one seems to learn from its predecessor. After the first one which had the named molded into the plastic was removed so that every one since has emphasized having a clear unobstructed view of the puzzle. Each one seems to take a new approach, the twist didn't go over well with me, but it was refreshing, and the warp felt comfortable.

Then this.

It has the same ambition as the epic (which felt more punishing than fun), and feels very well thought out, but the theme forces it to obstruct your view of the central core, the lights and sounds seem tacked on. The x-wing functionality, without any spoilers... is really cool.

But its biggest sin is the molding of the case is textured like the death star and that really destroys having a good visualization throughout. It isn't enough to knock it down to three stars because I think this is great, but it is really frustrating.

And the fact that licensing it for star wars obviously knocks another ten dollars onto the sale price.

My ideal for of this would be zero electronics, clear smooth frame and less obstruction from the removal of battery compartment.

Again, I like this a lot, but I feel it could have been better. Hopefully by appealing to a newer audience they will find an even greater appeal.

and that ball started rolling around like the Disco Queen at a roller rink

Really was hoping to surprise my boyfriend with this, but he was here when the box arrived. Now it wasn't obvious to the eye, but when I picked that box up.... and that ball started rolling around like the Disco Queen at a roller rink, my heart stopped. My eyes got really wide and I hunched over the box, hoping that the stillness of my body would shut that ball up. He looked at me, and I looked at him, deer in the headlights. A smirk crawled across his face and I knew... he knew. Needless to say, I'll never try to "surprise" him with a puzzle ball ever again. Other than that it's a great product! Very noisy, lights up, comes with a neat little stand, terrible if they shake the box to find out what it is.

This perplexus has a little magnetic X-Wing that carries the ball between stages, and frankly I find it to be highly irritating. The knob that turns it is really stiff on mine, and if you screw up you have to reset the position for the next time through. Also, the sphere is made of a much thicker plastic than the Epic, and has death-star-like etchings in it which really cut down on visibility.

its Star Wars, enough said

Perplexus on its own is pretty awesome. Bought the original version for our 7 year old and she loves it. Saw this Star Wars version and just had to buy it. Purchased this one for my 8 year old and she is diggin it. Anything Star Wars is awesome. The death star makes sounds and there's an x-wing fighter that flies around. The game itself is fun for kids and adults. This thing is very challenging with a lot of steps and puzzles to keep you going and going. If you haven't tried perplexus before definitely give it a try.

This is still a family favorite after we have been playing it for months

This is still a family favorite after we have been playing it for months. It is a great way to relax and unwind at the end of a long day at work. My daughters (11 and 13) love to play it, and my husband loves it as well. The Star Wars theme is a bonus, with lights and sounds that make me geek out and giggle. This product was well worth the money, and has provided our family with hours of fun.

Addictive, hard to put down
by KatMahaff (5 out of 5 stars)

Perplexus was a Christmas gift for my brother-in-law. My husband, nephew and brother-in-law could not set the ball down through our Christmas vacation, constantly working the maze and coordinating efforts to solve different levels. I ended up purchasing it for my husband, because he enjoyed it so much. The maze is highly addictive and fun. The ball is sturdy, the death star sounds and lights make it even more interesting and are not too loud or obnoxious (but we're big Star Wars fans). It's proven to be very challenging, but provides hours of entertainment. It hasn't been solved yet.

Plastic Sphere of Disappointment
by queenra (3 out of 5 stars)
November 12, 2017

I love the original Perplexus. I really love Star Wars. So of course I would love the combination of the two, right? Not so. While the game itself is fun, it looks like a cheap piece of plastic with bells & whistles. I didn't feel that way about the first. So disappointed that I didn't give it to my daughter for her birthday - instead, saved it for a random good behavior treat.
