Product Description

The Electric Loog is cute and small, but it's not a toy: it's a real guitar, made out of real wood and equipped with a screaming pickup that sounds amazing whatever style you play. Because it only has three strings and a narrow neck, it’s easier for small children to form chords and to make sense of what they are playing. All Loog Guitars come unassembled, as we believe that building your own guitar is an experience that helps you bond with the instrument in a deeper level. It is also a bonding experience between parents and their children, who can build their Loog together and share their love of music. Loog Guitars pair with the Loog iOS app filled with video lessons designed to get you playing songs -not just scales or exercises- on day one.

Fun and easy!

Had fun putting it together. The strings that come with it are ok quality and the tuning knobs are pretty loose. But I love it overall. It's a fun little guitar to have to pass the time.

This little guitar is awesome!!

We purchased this guitar for our 4 year old daughter. She plugged it in and cranked it up! She's already learning how to press fingers down on the frets to make different notes. I even enjoy picking around on it! Fun little guitar, sounds good, made of solid material and looks awesome!

A lot of fun! I could see a kid loving this

A lot of fun! I could see a kid loving this, although it's a bit pricey for a child's toy. It's pretty solid though and could easily be an heirloom if your kid looses interest.

Great toy but impossible to tune
by Victor Hache (2 out of 5 stars)

The guitar has a great look and feel, and the pickup sound is amazing. The main issue I have is that is that the neck is not adjusted and I can never make it sound in tune. There is no trustroad you can adjust to octave better and the bridge has the 3 strings at the same high and lenght so again no chance to correct intonation there.

3 Strings Rock!
by always skeptical (4 out of 5 stars)

I didn't get mine here. I bought the cool Third Man version.

I would love to see these guys succeed. But the price needs to come down.

I got turned on to 3-string guitars via an awesome package, and it was only $35 or so. Check it out: Hinkler EBB Electric Blues Box Slide Guitar Kit

But that is a fretless guitar for slide. Of course, it made me curious about a fretted version, so I bought a Loog.

Love the aesthetics. The intonation was surprisingly good. You may read some complaints about the intonation, but I think that was for the earlier version of their electric, and that appears to be fixed.

The only problem I had with mine is that the bridge broke during assembly. They use some cool rosewood parts, but there are two little rosewood plugs glued to the bottom of the bridge, and one of them came off. Not a huge deal -- I glued it back on. But not a great design.

Highlights of this guitars: the cool aesthetics, the nice wood they used, the perfect frets, and the thoughtful touches like metal parts where wear would be an issue with just wood.

Lowlights: the tailpiece holes are a bit too small for the string ends, the screw holes for the tuners are too big and easy to strip, the bridge is too complex and too fragile, kids need to watch out for the needle-like ends of the B and G strings, and the stringing guide is a bit ambiguous. For example, the instructions for open-A setup left me scratching my head, and I understand this stuff pretty well....

Oh, and you'll need an amp. Here's the perfect one for this guitar: Danelectro Honeytone N-10 Guitar Mini Amp, Aqua

A Guitar for Kids who Want to Rock Chords
by W.T.Hoffman (5 out of 5 stars)
September 22, 2016

The LOOG guitar is a 3/4 sized electric guitar with 3 strings, instead of the normal 6 strings. When I was a kid taking lessons on guitar, my hand was too small to form the chords. So, I was taught stuff like "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star". Even a little kid wants to learn guitar to play something hip, not baby songs. With the LOOG, you can play chords, and sing. Since it's so easy to finger, you gain confidence, you'll start to fun in the same time.

BUILDING A GUITAR

I was afraid I couldn't assemble a guitar. However, it literally took me between 5 -10 minutes. You have two screws that hold the neck onto the body. Then, 6 small screws that attach the tuning pegs, and finally, you screw on the guitar strap nuts. Obviously you don't need to be a luthier to figure this out. Detailed step by step instructions make it hard to mess up.

THREE STRINGS

Since its just three strings, you have three options for the set up. Use the 3 top strings on a guitar, and finger chords with them. (Chord Chart included, for each set up.) So a G B E setup gives you lots of chord voicings, as well as some nice lead work. If you don't want to use the open Em tuning, you can use G D B, which is the open G tuning. Again, you can play lots of chords just by using one finger across the fret. Finally, you can tune this in A E A, which is a power chord tuning. I did that, and it sounds FANTASTIC. I can't really make those barre power chords on a regular guitar, but on a Loog it's easy.
EASE OF PLAYING

I thought the fretboard was easy to play. I didn't try to play leads up by the octave, since I don't do those things. However, I was able to play a power chord song with C, F and G chords really easily. The single coil pickup has a lot of punch. That really surprised me. I wasn't expecting that much sound from a small guitar.

OTHER ITEMS YOU NEED

For a kid to learn guitar, they'll need more than just the guitar. You'll need to pick up a 1/4 inch jack guitar cable, at least 3 -4 feet long. Also, you'll need some kind of a practice amp. I've seen all kinds of practice amps, that don't cost an arm and a leg. Finally, you'll want to get a guitar strap, and some pics. If you can find a gig bag, or guitar case for an instrument this size, I'd recommend it. Especially if you're carrying the guitar to lessons, or you could have an accident. A small guitar stand isn't a bad idea either, so the guitar doesn't fall over and break.

I was provided a promotional product for testing, examination and review purposes.

Huge Sound and Simple to build/play!
by AlmostEverything84,Top Contributor: Camping (5 out of 5 stars)
September 7, 2016

The Good:
* Very nice packaging for a gift, display, each part is bagged and labeled
* You have everything you need to build the guitar and the only tool you need is a small Philips head screw driver
* Really easy to build...adult supervision would be necessary depending on age. Took me about 10mins for the body and then I took some more time on the string set up. Maybe around 30-40min total after tuning
* 3 strings are a lot easier for children in my opinion...also If you are just doing chords its more fun
* The sound is awesome! This little guy really sounds like a professional guitar. I have it paired with a Fender Mustang II amp

Other thoughts:
* When screwing on the strap knobs, it's hard to align the felt pad...It kept going to one side or the other
* The "nut"(which is that cream plastic piece before the headstock) was loose in my packaging and I could see where it was original glued. Not a big deal, I glued it back in..took 2 min
* My G string came kinked and not useable out of the packaging. Luckily I have a bunch of extras and was able to substitute that one instead. Again, not a big deal for anyone who plays but wanted to note
* Last, I think some better directions for stringing the guitar would be helpful. Specifically, how exactly the strings should look on the guitar. I could see my nephew struggling to know where the strings align and which tuning machine to go around. There are plenty of video's etc...but I think a picture I within the included documentation would be nice

The Bottom Line:

I'm super impressed with this little guitar. From the build to function you really can't go wrong...it's just too simple. Plenty of videos out there so I'll save you that, but included pictures along the build. Please note that I was able to test this product at a discount in order to provide you with an honest, unbiased review.

Amazed by the high quality & great Sound, my 5Yr old is Loving it "best ' to get your kids learning
by Oran S. (5 out of 5 stars)
August 17, 2016

There is nothing better then seeing my 5Yr old son holding a guitar and wanting to play it. as a musician and a guitar player I was amazed by so many things that I didn't expect from this guitar.

To begin with the unboxing of the guitar where the package is nice and padded to ensure there are no damages upon arrival.

I enjoyed assembling it and my son was helping me out which he also learned a few things before grabbing a guitar and playing right away. The process was extremely easy, Fun and quick.

The operation manual which is a lot more then just instructions that are well written, easy to understand + there are animated instructions which makes it possible for a child to assemble.

During the assembly process you really see the high quality materials used, the design which is beautiful and the finish of the hole guitar which was done at a very high standard.

Once the guitar was assembled & prepared to be tuned and played, my son sett by me and listen to my instructions which for a 5Yr old he was quite penitent, after he got the first few minutes acting as a Rockstar out of the way he was eager to hook it up to my amp and play together with me and my guitar which was truly an awesome experience even though it did not sound like anything it was fun for both of us and it's only going to get better as he is really interested in playing it.

One of the best things in the instructions manual is actually not the instructions it's the songs, their chords and animations which turns the kids learning experience easier and fun.

We only got this guitar a few days and I've been finding myself playing it quite a bit which is lots of fun and sounds pretty good and with some distortion or other effects it truly sounds awesome.

The guitar keeps its tune well and overall it's the best guitar for kifs I have seen so far that isn't just another one of those kids guitars that are low quality and doesn't sound half as good as this guitar.

The quality of the materials and craftsmanship used here is not less then any one of my guitars that cost way more then this guitar which is just one more reason proving that this guitar is the best quality for a reasonable price.

When I received the guitar I had a few questions about the application supporting the guitar that I wanted to find out and I was able to get them answered within a few hours as the company is located in NY and their staff were quick and helpful.

I'm thankful I was able to receive this Guitar for FREE in exchange for my unbiased opinion and honest review.
× this fact did not have any effect on my review that is based on my personal use of this and this was my honest opinion about it. I do test every product I receive as if I paid full price for it, I do NOT resale those products as it is unethical and against the rules of any products testing program. I do give some of them away as gifts to be tested by other users ×

Seller and Amazon were great and shipping was extremely fast of course.

Thank you for a superb service and product.

Interesting Intrument Concept But Hard To Recommend
by Darren O'Neill,Top Contributor: Classical Music (2 out of 5 stars)
September 11, 2016

I have been playing guitar for over 30 years and I really wanted to like this little electric guitar as a tool for young musicians to get started making music. What my experience was, unfortunately, that this is little more than a toy that is a pain in the behind to even build.
►► THE BUILD ◄◄

The guitar comes nicely packaged and the pieces are all clearly packaged and labeled. The first step was to use 6 small screws to attach the tuning posts and that is where I ran into my first problem.

A few of the screws went in easily, but a couple would not, eventually stripping the heads of the screws before they were sitting flush against the tuners.

The neck attached easily with two screws but never seemed to be completely stable.

The strap hooks again presented an issue with a screw that did not want to fully enter the guitar body on the top hook.

I understand the story that it's good to have your child build this themselves, but it's not something I would recommend. Great care has to be taken to make sure you can get this together without stripping the screws.
►► THE SOUND ◄◄

This is a very basic electric guitar with one pickup. The sound from that pickup does sound nice and clean and I did not have any issues with the pickup or volume of the instrument.

The main problem with the sound is that, even with the strings in tune, the guitar never really sounds in tune. It is always oscillating back and forth for a very unpleasant sound unless you're running the guitar through some distortion.

While I again get the concept of the smaller, three-string guitar for younger players I am not really sure how much good starting here would do them, if any, over starting on a six-string guitar. The chords provided in the book with the guitar are basically just the bottom 3 strings of any 6-string chord and they just don't sound right at all.
►► VALUE ◄◄

This is probably where I have the biggest issue with this little instrument. These guitars are selling for between $161 and $299 here on Amazon and you can find some pretty decent full-sized electric guitars on sale here for less.

Epiphone LP Junior Solid-Body Electric Guitar, Vintage Sunburst

Epiphone ENSVWLVCH1 Solid-Body Electric Guitar, Walnut
►► CONCLUSION ◄◄

I can see where this guitar could be a simple little starter guitar but when they're priced more than some decent full-sized 6-string guitars I have a very hard time recommending them. If the price point topped out at around $100 they'd be much easier to recommend to a parent trying to get their younger kids started into playing. With the size of this guitar, anyone over 12 years old should probably start with a full-sized guitar anyway.
