Life saver for worn out pups in cold weather
by Abby Freeman (4 out of 5 stars)

I purchased this and the landing pad by ruffwear for a weekend backpacking trip with temps dipping below freezing.

Pros: It's made of durable fabric and DOES keep the dog warm in cold weather. It also unzips about 3/4 of the way around, allowing you to get the pup situated then zip them in. It has ties that can be staked down in order to keep it in place. My favorite part is that the bottom of it has a sleeve that the pad slides into and keeps the sleeping bag on the pad. I LOVED that little extra. It also has a stuff sack with some loops on it for attachment, which I utilized during our trip.

Cons: It's fairly heavy for such a little thing and doesn't come in sizes. It did fit my lab/husky (75lbs) mix, but only just. It would benefit from having a compression sack, and being made of higher quality materials. For this price I would have expected a bit higher quality. In fact, a dri-down of some kind would have been nice. My dog typically packs her own supplies, but this packs too big and is too heavy for her to haul over long distances.

I'm not sure how well this would work for dogs with short hair/single coats.

Love it! Worth the money.

The only thing I wish for this bag-- I wish it separated into two separate pieces, so that my dog's backpack was evenly distributed. I've actually thought (many times) that we should hire a seamstress to cut it in half and add a zipper to it so we could zip half of it off, pack the two pieces in a backpack (one piece on each side of the dog's body), then zip it back together when ready to camp.

Otherwise... LOVE this bag.

Great sleeping bag for my dog!
by Kfilly,Top Contributor: Camping (5 out of 5 stars)

This is a great sleeping bag for my dog. Weighing just under 2 pounds, it is light enough for my dog to be able to carry herself. I have a smaller lab pointer mix. She is about 50 pounds, and she fits into this sleeping bag easily. It is easy to get my dog in her bag as it has a wide opening zipper (literally folds in half). The fabric is water resistant and easy to clean. The underside has a small pocket which accommodates a small sleep pad to provide additional insulation from the ground. The sleeping bag is easy to pack into its stuff sack.

Just what we needed
by Sarah K Apker (4 out of 5 stars)

My dog loves it! The sleeping bag alone is insulated enough to keep her warm all night (sleep in 40-30 degree nights). I have a GSP and the large bag is just right for her. The only thing is we can't zip her in it because she moves so much and Velcro might be a better alternative to a zipper but that's just a personal need. The bag is great, keeps our dog off of our bags at night which is what our main goal was.

This bag also packs well in the large ruffwear dog pack. Its a bit heavy and bulky to we had to do some adjusting to keep the dog level while hiking but we got it figured out and our dog did just fine with it in her pack.

Needs compression sack
by Erin E. Haliburton (4 out of 5 stars)

Considering this cost almost as much as a human-sized sleeping bag, a basic compression sack could've been provided. The best use of this bag is for backpacking, but wasn't very feasible with the provided bag. It took up a lot of space in my backpack. I bought the 5L compression sack from REI and it made all the difference!

A warm dog is a happy dog.

I backpack quite a lot and have begun to bring my boxer along. In the winters it's too cold for him to just sleep on top of something. I ended up buying this, while he does not like sleeping inside of it, he will once it gets cold enough. He starts off by sleeping on top and then around 2am he wakes me up and I zip him up in it and he stays warm all night, no more shivering. We fit this in the ruffwear palisades pack he has and have had no issues. Quality seems to be of top quality as with all ruffwear items. I am debating putting it in a more water proof bag, the one that comes with it is not water proof. Last time we were out he jumped off a bank and the water was much deeper than he thought. The edge of the bag got wet, so I would put it in something more water proof.

More than just a doggie sleeping bed!
by RK (5 out of 5 stars)

The first time I went camping with my dog (without this sleeping bag) was a nightmare. He refused to sleep as he couldn't get comfortable. He kept waking me up and staring at the tent door in defiance.

When I got home, I immediately purchased this doggie sleeping bag.

The second time (and every time after that), my dog has slept happily in this sleeping bag. He loves it so much, he uses it at home and prefers it over his normal dog bed.

It is extremely convenient to take on trips, too, as it packs up small.

I've since purchased the pad to put inside and it seems to make it a little more comfortable for him.

I couldn't be happier with this purchase. So much so, I almost want to buy it for my friends that have pups as their Christmas present! 😂

German shepherd mutt is obsessed!
by 108 (5 out of 5 stars)
June 24, 2017

My German shepherd mutt (short-medium hair) loves this! It keeps him warm throughout the night when backpacking or camping (he also wears a sweater and has a pad underneath him). He previously had been too cold with a sweater, pad, and 3 normal blankets, which let heat escape too easily. He's 58 lbs and has room to move out of needed, but the bag is still small enough to easily keep heat in. His entire body can fit in it (head included) and he sleeps curled up or on one side.

Too big and bulky

Too big and bulky and not enough insulation for the price. I returned this to find something better for less money.
