Do NOT cook with this block! After carefully following ...

Do NOT cook with this block! After carefully following instructions on how to warm the block before cooking, a loud explosion from within stove and salt shrapnel shot out everywhere! Would have seriously injured anyone standing in its path. DO NOT COOK WITH THESE BLOCKS!!

Looove it! Seasons food while cooking. It takes a long time to heat up properly but if you have the time it's worth the great flavor it imparts on the food. Heat it slowly so it doesn't crack, over time it will turn white as the minerals in it change. The hotter it is the better, you want it to sear the meat and give it a nice brown crust. You don't need to wash it after each use, but if it has lots of drippings and filth wait for it to cool completely back to room temperature before rinsing with water and dry immediately. Rub the stone with cloves of garlic just before cooking meat on it and it will add great flavor to your food. You can also heat it up in an outdoor grill then put it on a wooden platter and bring inside to cook food at the table - it stays hot for a very long time. I'll buy this again when mine dissolves beyond use

Does Great Seafood
by No BS (5 out of 5 stars)
April 26, 2016

I like to try things and see if the hype is just hype. We have cooked steak and seafood on this bad boy and it really does give it a good flavor. Scallops are the best I have ever had them when cooked like this. This sears great and the stone is a great size for beginners. You can fit two decent sized steaks on this block at one time. I recommend seafood over steak though, the steak has less of an added flavor than the seafood. However it does a great job at searing, alike a cast iron pan.

The only draw back is that it takes 30-45 minutes to heat up properly if you want to avoid cracking. This is not a defect, it is the nature of the salt. I have used it at least six times and it is not showing any indication that fissures or cracks are forming from within.

Fantastic!

These are fantastic. We entertain often and each time we use these we're inevitably asked where to get them from. We bought 4 and my only complaint is that I would love if they would also offer a larger size that's not quite as thick. When we have more than 4 guests, I line the tiles along the center of the table so that people can swirl each piece of food on the one closest to them. Not quite the same as cooking on, or serving on, but it still works well and has a bit of a novelty element to it. My in-laws are big meat-eaters and I ordered a pair for them last year. They aren't comfortable cooking on them yet, but they do serve their steaks and seafood on them and when they have visitors they also lay them out along the center of the dining table.

Literally Exploded
by Wendy B Gaskin (1 out of 5 stars)
January 28, 2016

Tried using this on a gas range and it really didn't end well. Started by heating it on low for 15, then moved it up to medium for 10, and then high, per instructions. As soon as it went to high half of the slab took flight, exploding all over the kitchen. Burning salt flying through the air does not make for a good night.

I did cook on it and was very pleased with the result

Complaints: The product came broken. The block itself is wrapped in a layer of traditional (small bubble) bubble wrap. Beyond that they threw in about three of those new soda can sized bubbles which were all burst by the weight of the block (it is really heavy). It came with a corner chunk broken. I have followed the rules for heating and cooling but there are some additional very large cracks forming, will update with number of uses I got out of it once those cracks break through.

Praises: I did cook on it and was very pleased with the result. I made some tasty flat iron steaks!

Once go Block you'll never go Back!

Bought the block, followed the recommeded preparation process in my overnand have made all types of food over the past few nights. Shrimp, Scallops, Tuna, Lobster and Filet Mignon steak all came out GREAT! After heating slowly up to 500 degrees in the oven I transfered the block atop the portable propane burner which helped maintain the temperature throughout cooking time. Everything had an earthy excellent flavor brought out by the salt block. Im having fun with it and recommend to people who enjoy cooking with different styles and of course GREAT TASTING food.. :)

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
by Kaar (5 out of 5 stars)
April 28, 2017

I HIGHLY recommend getting one of these! We use ours on the grill regularly, and it brings SO much flavor to anything we cook. We are normally people who love to season our chicken/meats. I feel like with this salt cooking tile, we really only need to put some black pepper and a little salt on our chicken. It doesn't make the food salty at all, but instead lets the food marinate in its own juices while cooking. Such a great product. We will be purchasing one for each of our friends.

Great way to add a little seasoning to your food ...

Great way to add a little seasoning to your food as well as an interesting way to cook it. If you're concerned about the salt over powering your food you need not be. I read everyones reviews and I haven't had any issues with mine. I heat my up slowly to temp and I haven't had any issues.

The salt block came in perfect order, no visible cracks
by Richard M. Schwope (4 out of 5 stars)

The salt block came in perfect order, no visible cracks. Good weight and size. My only problem was when I used it the first time and tried to follow the internet directions using Himalayan Salt blocks to SLOWLY heat it on the gas range and that it should take about 35 minutes to heat properly at about minute 33 it exploded. No one was hurt, thankfully! One of the articles I had read suggested using an infrared thermometer, which I didn't have. If I were to do this again I would use the gas burner that is the smaller size to heat.
