the battery is basically good for one night (3 hours or so) at most

I'm so torn writing this review. I had several problems with this product, actually. Fully charged, the battery is basically good for one night (3 hours or so) at most. The little plastic hanging clip is very weakly attached and easy to pull off. And the solar charging is anemic and slow - if you don't have good sun all day, don't plan on using this for long at night! But I can't help but like this thing anyway. It's NEAT. If you replace the weak little clip with a bit of paracord or other hanging method, it spreads the light around a tent MUCH better than anything else I've ever used. And you can set it on a floor or table and even angle one or more of the "flower petal" light panels to direct the light where you want. It charges pretty quickly from a USB power source so we just used our cell phone charger pack and it didn't seem to drain much from it - the battery can't be all that large although they don't list an exact spec and I didn't tear in down. All in all, despite my complaints this is actually the best tent light I've ever used. If I had one request it would be to alter the light settings. The options are off, normal, bright, and flash. To this day I've never understood flash settings on these things - this isn't bright enough to use as a "road flare" or portable enough that you'd actually be carrying it around as an emergency beacon or anything like that. What WOULD be handy is a setting that turned one only one or two LEDs on each petal, using minimal power. That "night light" mode would be really nice for families with children.

Very Nearly Perfect and Totally AWESOME

New update: it's been two years. We still use our clover. It still charges itself. We have to plug it in bf a trip to get that battery full or it discharges pretty quick.

We do tend to extend the petals and leave hanging in the tent while we're off. But if I'm around I like to lay it out in the sun. I like to plug it into my other solar panel too to try to top it off before nightfall.

Loose petal is still loose but not exactly broken. My kids have been much more careful.

I have other lights now but if this product had a red light it really would be perfect.

This light has been put through the paces;

Michigan winter camp. MI wet spring camping. MI hot dry and hot humid camping.

Missouri hot humid camping

Oklahoma storm survival camping

High altitude desert camping. Brutal day heat, brutal night cold.

It still survives camping with kids.

Update: We've been using our clover light for about 3 months now. We still LOVE it, but here is the news: one of the pedals has developed a looseness about it. The kids love this product and tend to fight over it, play with it, man handle it... looseness and even broken is really just bound to happen- but I am reporting my experiences to you anyway.

It was left on one evening while we were out hiking- we left it on purposely so we could find our tent in the dark. Alas, it had died at some point and our tent was as dark as the surrounding forest. So we learned the hard way that the batteries only lasted (for us anyway) about 3 hours, maybe a bit less.

Bonus, it will charge off a battery pack.

We still wish it had a red light, and a dim (very dim) setting. It is insanely blinding to turn it on in a dark tent in the middle of the night.

Original post:

I just got my little Clover light and I am just so happy with it; like little kid on Christmas happy. It's simple, and it is just as the picture shows it. I hung it in my tent already and am thrilled there too. It isn't too big to hang in my Kelty 2 person backpackers tent.

The petals fold up nicely, I don't think it will be difficult to pack into a backpack. I might try to find a way to protect it in the pack.

Flimsy is NOT a word for this product, but perhaps it is on the delicate side. Its not a torch like a Maglite, or a baseball bat. This is like an illuminating flower, and like any flower, if you are heavy handed with it than it will break. But if it gives you an idea, my 3 year old son has baby handled it and so far it still works -he even dropped it on tile and yet it works.

If you are looking for a durable light built like a club to knock out wild dogs, then this is not your item.

If you want something that people are going to see and comment on, ask you where you got it; then this is it. It works great, its lightweight, its smaller than I expected and perfect for what I want- hanging it in the tent and being exactly what it is.

It definitely has the cool factor.

Dimensions: it is 6" long and about 2.5" wide when closed. Opened up it is about 10 long.

It weighs exactly 6.4 oz.

Edit: So we've used it a few times now in the tent camping and the only thing we have talked about it not being able to accomplish is a dim light, or a red light. The lights are white and bright and there is no midnight low light. But its still freaking awesome.

It charges all day though the canvas/nylon of the tent. I have not tested the longevity of the light on a full charge- there didn't seem to be a need.

Durable, Bright, and Lightweight
by tastybeets (5 out of 5 stars)

Purchased this for use during tent camping. This functions as the only overhead tent light in an REI Kingdom 8 tent. I've been using this 2 days at a time once a month for camping trips over the last 6 months.

The Breakdown:
- Seems to be pretty durable. It gets knocked around like crazy in my pack, and I've yet to cause any damage. Though I'm a bit pedantic about care of my gear, so it's not like I'm accidentally sitting or stepping on it.
- Light works while charging.
- The solar panels charge very well through my tent's rainfly (my FAVORITE feature though it depends on the opacity of your fly). I don't generally leave it on for more than an hour, but I have on occasion run it until almost dead and was gifted a complete recharge after a (sunny) day leaving it hanging in the tent.
- I got about 3.5 or 4 hours out of it on low and ended up shutting it off as the light had gotten extremely dim.
- Low setting lights up my entire tent. It's huge. No, really. It's the tent equivalent of a mansion. 104 sqft floor with a 33 sqft vestibule and it towers at 6.5 ft tall. Huge. Frikkin. Tent. High setting has really been completely unnecessary.
- Who uses a flash setting??? I mean I guess maybe for emergencies but come on.

The Bottomline:

Yeah, there are more compact tent lights out there, and I'm sure they're great, but this one is a FAAAAAAN SHAAAAPE and it comes in GREEEEN (best. color. ever.). Really, though, I'm all about that solar power, and appreciate I don't have to change out batteries. It leaves my enormous house-of-a-tent bathed in a comfortable glow for evening games of UNO. Super pleased with this purchase, and if it ever DOES die (hopefully years from now), I'll gladly purchase another.

NOT FOR HUMID OR HOT CLIMATES
by Amazon Customer (3 out of 5 stars)
February 28, 2018

I received this light today. I was very excited! I opened the box, and read the instruction manual.

Negatives-the manual clearly states not to use this in high humidity or high heat environments. I live in coastal Carolina, which is perpetually swampy, and above 80F for 8 months of the year.

The manual also clearly states that, fully charged by usb, on low, this light will last 4 hours. Oh high, 2 hours. Solar charged, 15 minutes.

The positive side- The light is quite bright, and all modes works easily with light touches of the buttons if you wait a couple of seconds for the result.

If you need a camping light, or kayak-friendly solar light, or need a water-resistant light, keep looking.

Doesn't work

I charged it up with the USB and noticed throughout the next day it kept turning the LEDs lights on and off randomly by itself. When I would try and turn them off it most of the time it wouldn't. Couldn't even get it to switch modes. Cheap. Buy something else

Excellent rechargable light.

I got 3 of these around 12ish on Friday afternoon to use on a camping trip that weekend. I charged them for about 2 hours and they were fully charged. They lasted the whole weekend without needing to be recharged. My daughter used hers as a flashlight as well as a tent light. This light has three settings. Low was bright enough to wake up my wife when I went to the tent (10'X14') High was so bright I had no problem seeing into the bottom of my footlocker. There is also a strobe mode which is so slow it can;t be used as a party light. In my opinion this light only lacks a USB port to charge other devices, and the strobe feaqture is pointless. But I would buy again.

First one did not charge, broken port, amazon sent a new one. Purchased in aprol 2018 and as of the end of the month stopped charging. Only about 6 charges were done, wish it would have worked or made better.

I love this thing

Probably one of the best things I've ever purchased on Amazon. We definitely plan to buy a second one. I love the versatility of this thing, I love that you can charge in the sun or on a charger, it hangs wonderfully, can be sitting in several different positions, works as a flashlight or a lantern. It's even good for playing cards in the dark, way better than any lanterns we've used before.

It does not work

Sent to customer service department SUAOKI

I get my lamp, but it does not work, it just does not charge, I read all the instructions, and there is no solution, I am now in Mexico and it is more expensive to return the lamp than to buy a new one.

Great for camping or tree house fun!
by Alisha (5 out of 5 stars)

Ordered this before our trip out to Palo Duro. I wanted something eco friendly that I did not have to keep buying batteries for & gave off good light in our tent and that is exactly what I got! This thing is AWESOME! It charges fast by solar or plug. Gives off tons of light inside the tent and a dark room! It is also easy to direct the light towards the right, left or a corner ( just drop one or two of the wings in the direction you want the light focused and leave the others up) It is also light weight, you can use it at home, working on the car or the kids can use it in a fort or tree house. The only down side is I find the hook is not as off high quality as the rest of the item & it is rather small. It can be frustrating to rehang when you are sleeping in the mid of the night camping (like coming back from the bathroom but it works fantastic as a flashlight to the bathroom if you close all the wings towards each other. ) Would also like the light buttons not to be so hard to find to turn on (can take a minute to find them and turn on when it is dark, open and hanging up) but neither one of these issues would stop me from buying another one or buying it for someone else as a gift.
