Best hardcase design for the Macbook as of now (Ash Grey)
by sonicd0012 (5 out of 5 stars)

Apple devices are too pretty to get dinged and scratched , they are not junk and you pay a lot for them, protection is a must, otherwise damage to the device is an eye sore and will cost you. If you protect your iPhone you should protect this Macbook. The case is very light actually and I cant tell any difference, the bulk is minimal but is undoubtedly worth it. Get a carrying case that is thicker due to the bulk, the small 12" sleeves will not work. This UAG case is the best looking protection case with its Military style design as of now ( which in my opinion looks very cool ) It does not uglify your Macbook, it makes it even more interesting. Guys will love the design. Get the Ash Grey for your Grey Macbook and the clear for non greys. The Ash Grey is a perfect match. You will have to lock/unlock on both to close/open the Macbook, it will keep it secure which is a safety feature. I am still unsure if I like this feature. However, it's not a big deal for those who don't want to clasp down, nothing an exacto knife can't fix by shaving off the little rubber groove edges that secure it. Only other gripe is the thin rubber which holds the case, when Macbook is opened up the rubber creates a groove, elevating the device a bit. Also the groove will now always be dirty since it's always elevating the device. Should have not designed that part in my opinion but not a big deal at all.

Excellent fit on laptop and protects it very well
by R. Auger (5 out of 5 stars)

Excellent fit on laptop and protects it very well. I normally keep the computer in the outer pocket of my camera backpack and this case keeps it from getting dinged. The corners are especially vulnerable in modern laptops, and this is the only case that protects the corners properly. I love that I can just carry it around without a bag and bring it into a coffee shop, or put the laptop down on any surface confidently while traveling on the road. I also love how grippy the large rubber area is for carrying the compute with one hand. The computer stays rock solid shut, but is surprisingly easy to open and close when needed. There is an opening for charging the computer when closed.

After many photography road trips, I'm really glad I bought this (overpriced) protective case.

DO NOT buy a used or open box version, only brand new. The first one I ordered was an Open Box Used from Amazon but didn't quite fit properly and would pop out on the left side a little when opening - and was probably returned by somebody for the same reason. The second one I purchased was brand new, and has fit perfectly for months now. If you have any issues with fit, return it right away and get another one.

My only wish is that the giant stupid UAG logo wasn't on the case, but honestly I don't even notice it anymore. I would have also liked that the headphone jack isn't blocked when closing, but I'm almost all bluetooth now anyway.

Great case, would recommend!

Got this for my macbook as I'm typically climbing mountains or skateboarding with mac in tow. Was worried about build quality, aesthetics etc. I'm usually disappointed by aftermarket gizmos but I was pleasantly surprised by the UAG case. It doesn't add much weight and after 2 months of use I haven't noticed anything I dislike about it. I've heard that cases like this can damage the hinge mechanism of the macbook since the added weight added to the back of the display doesn't conform to the original apple engineering, I've noticed hinge behavior is a bit off with the UAG attached but with the small screen of the 12-inch it's only happens when putting the mac through higher g forces with the display open. I would definitely recommend this case.

Lightweight and durable

Great, durable case. It shows some scratches, but only at certain angles. You really have to be looking at it. Super thin, yet you feel confident your MacBook is safe. You have to use your thumbs on the edges to open it up. To close, you hear it "click".

Is the UAG case too good?
by Tim, Laurel, MD (4 out of 5 stars)

I bought this case for my new MacBook 12. The UAG case is very light and highly protective of the computer you wrap it around. I would consider the case nearly perfect except for one feature. Please keep in mind the computer on which it was installed. The MacBook 12 is a wonderful device. And I had it built with the performance and storage extras. If you plan to never remove the UAG case it will serve well, and you can add the 5th star to my rating. However, if you must take it off your computer be prepared to destroy the $65 to $72 UAG case in the process if you run into any resistance removing it.

Knowing that will potentially save you up to $825! The UAG hangs on tenaciously! It almost felt as if it were glued to the Mac. I'm not prepared to say the computer is delicate, but it is extremely light and the screen, if torqued, can crack. I didn't attack it with a crowbar or anything other than my hands. Still, the screen snapped quickly under what seemed relatively light force, and each time thereafter less force damaged it further.

This damage is NOT covered by APPLE's $250 extended protection plan. (It may be a design flaw, but it is not considered a manufacturing defect.) APPLE expedited shipping both ways, including sending out a new box.) They did an excellent job making the repairs, and returned the Mac extremely quickly. It took them less than two days to complete their work.

BTW, the repair procedure is fascinating, but requires finesse. I'm good with my hands, but was not interested in saving money by doing it myself. I'll just warn you, you will need a very good heat gun. My experience is probably not that rare. So, be aware of the risk. You should be able to break the molded plastic UAG retention "edges" to free the computer. I would go so far as to suggest you consider filing down the "edges" to make it easier to install and remove the case if necessary.

It's an okay case.

The rubber on the edges is great.. Overall the case is poor. The plastic is cheap. Really the only good thing is the rubberized edges.

What are all the vent holes on the bottom venting? Is the weak plastic covering everything necessary? Just leave the spaces least likely to get beaten up free. No need to create vents when this machine is so beautiful built.

Definitely not worth the price. This is really a cheap case with rubber slapped on. I don't feel that warrants the current price.

It really protects the macbook well despite that it is so light. And it looks great. The charging cable can remain

plugged in when closing the lid. Note however that this is not the case for the audio adapter. One has first to

unplug the earphones. The laptop with gear still fits my tomtoc protective sleave for the 12 inch macbook.

Really nice product.

Numero uno!

Simply the perfect case for the 12" Mac. I recently purchased an 11.6" Mac Air and the first thing I did was look for this same case. Unfortunately UAG does not make them for the Lil Mac. Needless to say I was quite disappointed! But for the 12" Mac (they also make them for the 13.3" Air) this case is awesome! It is very protective yet still pretty light and thin. Besides its appearance what I really like is the case locks shut around my beloved Mac! In my opinion, hands down the best case out there!

Very Happy. I am pretty picky when it comes to cases and this one is great. I paid $50 for a clear Spek case and it broke apart at all 4 corners within a couple of weeks and provided very little drop protection, feel like I was cheated at that price point. This UAG looks and feels great, also feel MUCH more durable for nearly the same price. This is perfect for me because I love the portability of the 12 Macbook, but am constantly tossing it around in my bag for work. This provides great protection and keeps my macbook nice and light. I was a little worried about the corning locking mechanism at first, but got used to it right away. Its early still and I haven't "drop tested" it and hope that I never do, but I love the look and feel of it and its construction gives me peace of mind. Highly recommend as a companion to a 12" macbook.

Love it!

I absolutely love my UAG case! It takes my sleek lean MacBook, and gives it a meaner more rugged look and feel without adding much weight. The case fits beautifully (do watch the video on how to put it on AND on how to take it off!).

I feel secure having my MacBook in the case and carrying it around.
