Space Saving and Great Looking
by BK (4 out of 5 stars)

WHY DID I GET THIS? DID I NEED IT? The BookArc stand is great for saving space and allowing me to work from just one large display. I used to like having multiple screens, but after using the 27"ť iMac, I've loved having just one large screen to work from and keep tidy instead of multiple screens to have all over the place. WHAT DOES IT DO? Not only does it save space, but it looks great and keeps my MacBook Pro (TouchBar) cooled down since it isn't sitting on top of anything. I often forget that I'm even working from my laptop since I place my laptop away from my main workspace and screen/display in front of me. DOES IT WORK AS IT SHOULD? It works exactly like it should keeping my MacBook Pro out of the way and I appreciate the fact that they give different inserts that I can easily replace if I wanted to change and use my MacBook Air instead of my Pro. The cord management storage space underneath isn't all that useful for me as I manage my cords a different way, but I can see it being helpful if you're connecting a ton of peripheral devices to the ports of your MacBook Pro. IS THERE ANYTHING I DISLIKE ABOUT THIS PRODUCT? The high price seems unnecessary for such a simple device, but it does look good and feels very sturdy and not cheaply made. Even though it does seem expensive for what it does, it's useful enough that I bought two of these: one for my home office and one for my work space. Nevertheless, it probably could be at least $10 cheaper. IS THERE A BETTER PRODUCT? I converted to this product after using the Rain Design mStand for years. This product is better if you only want/need to use one display at a time and want to save some space.

Too expensive for what it is!

I really struggled to convince myself to buy this BookArc for my 2017 MacBook Pro Retina with Touchbar. I decided to get rid of my iMac and make my laptop into a desktop by hooking it to a dock and then a large 54" LCD 4k television. I needed something to hold the MacBook Pro in place while plugged into the dock. Now, I have bought cheaper stands for my laptop. In fact, Really NICE stands for half the price of what Twelve South is selling theirs for, and just as efficient. In short, I splurged and bought this product because of the form factor. I like the curved aspect of this product. For that, you are paying twice as much as you could be paying for something just as good...but....straight. The stand comes with two additional rubber inserts pending on which MacBook you own. Surprisingly, Twelve South got it all wrong. They recommended a larger insert for the 2017 model I described above. However, the insert that was already in place (the default insert) did a much better job of holding my laptop in place with no tilting to the side. This is a quality product, no doubt, though I understand that this new generation of the BookArc is not as good (quality wise) as the previous generation. I am guessing this is lighter, and yes, as a result, it does tend to pick itself off the table when you take your laptop out of it. Not a big deal as I have noticed that happening with other stands I own as well. The better the fit around your laptop, the more the stand is going to continue to hug your device when you lift it out. If you want a really good stand for half the price the Vogek Ucradle can't be beaten. However, if like me, you are committed to the curved form factor of the Twelve South BookArc, then be prepared to pay twice as much than you really should.

Nothing like the original BookArc
by Jim (3 out of 5 stars)

When I bought the original BookArc, I thought I was wasting my money, but was pleasantly surprised with its heft and utility. I felt that it provided me with $50 in value. I was bummed to find out that Twelve South wouldn't be producing inserts for the old BookArc for the new MacBook Pro, but figured I'd patiently wait for the redesigned BookArc and expected to be blown away like every other Twelve South product. I was pleasantly surprised at the redesign and that it came in space grey, and excitedly ordered one when I heard that the new inserts were available for the new MBPs. I received my new BookArc today, and I'm disappointed. I'm left questioning if it's worth $50. I'm still not sure if I'm going to return it. It looks great, I love the space grey, and the new design is even better than the first, but it is substantially lighter. It feels cheap and light, and it is no where near as grippy as the original. I'm not sure if it's going to fall off my desk if I bump into it. I'm using the correct insert, and the fit is looser than its predecessor. For an insert that's made for a specific model MacBook, which itself is produced with exceptionally low tolerances, I can't understand why the insert doesn't fit my MBP like a glove and why my MBP has a slight tilt when sitting in the BookArc.

Overall, I'm disappointed. It's probably still the best looking MacBook stand on the market, but it's disappointing to see Twelve South decide to go with a lighter material. I can't understand that move. Doesn't everyone want the stand holding their $3k laptop to be hefty and secure? Surely, Twelve South could have afforded more/heavier material at that price point.

I might keep mine, but if I do, it's out of pure laziness and because I still love the design and need a stand. I would never recommend it to anyone, though, which is really unfortunate.

Far inferior to the original.

Far inferior to the original. No cable holders, less stable foot pads, and lighter--which isn't a plus for something used to hold something else. The upside is getting the original for $10 cheaper since this piece of tinsel arrived.

I guess it's okay?

It's an aluminum stand with some rubber padding that mostly matches the macbook pro and largely does its job as a stand. I'm not sure if there is supposed to be an actual cable catch on the underside of the device to hold the monitor cables - the text and images imply there is such a thing - but there isn't. You're just apparently supposed to rest the stand on the cables. Which doesn't really work when the macbook pro isn't in the stand because the tension in the cables is high enough that it just jacks up the stand into the air. But when you have the weight of the macbook resting on the stand, then it holds the cables down. Not sure if it's worth the hassle.

Great for 15" MBP
by Justin (5 out of 5 stars)

Do you have 15 Amazon tabs open, trying to figure out which vertical laptop stand is going to work best for your 15" MacBook Pro?

If so, this review is for you.

I was in your shoes about 10 days ago.

I kept going back and forth between stands. I've always liked the look of the Book Arc, but I haven't had a need for it until now. I recently purchased an LG ultrawide monitor, and I didn't need my dual screen setup anymore (21" monitor + 15" MacBook Pro on a laptop stand).

I needed a stand that kept my laptop cool but saved precious desk real estate.

The Book Arc was definitely the most expensive option on my shortlist, but Twelve South makes really great products - and they're headquartered in my home state - so despite some of the less-than-positive reviews here, I went for it.

After using it for about a week, I couldn't be happier. My MacBook fits securely, and it's out of the way. When I want to pick it up and put it in my bag, I lift it up and go.

The only downside, however, was my HyperDrive USB-C hub. The Book Arc didn't hold my MacBook high enough, so I couldn't use my hub for the monitor's HDMI connection. Simple fix, though: I picked up an HDMI -> USB-C adapter for a few bucks.

In short, if you're trying to make up your mind between this stand and cheaper ones like it, spend the extra $15-$20 and go with the Book Arc.

You won't regret it, and you won't have to face the utter shame of buying a cheaper one, hating it, buying a Book Arc and hiding the cheaper one in the drawer where your old devices go to die.

Or maybe that's just me.

I was excited to receive this stand to save room on my desk, so I even paid an additional $20 to have it next day. When I got it I was disappointed. Their ad states that if you have a shell it'll still fit. But it doesn't. Im using the MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) and I also bought a very thin shell since the stand was too loose. But it was too thick for this stand so I removed it and now its loose again. I even attempted to use the other two fittings that came with it but those were both too small. The only one that was big enough is either too small when I keep my protective shell on, or if I remove the shell that laptop has a slight wobble due to the access room. Im probably going to return this. Anyone reading this I'd recommend looking into a stand that will potentially fit more snug or atleast allow you to keep the protective shell on your laptop

Supper shape great quality!

I love it. It's robust and kind of heavy. The rubber thing is amazing. It holds the laptop with no shaking. It comes with two extra runners for different sizes of the MacBook.

A bit expensive but $10 is not going to diter me since it's shape is just amazing!!

The rubber holders on the bottom are also great for grip.

As some mentioned the piece lifts when you remove the laptop but that means the rubber is that good :).

Awesome addition to my desk and a great solution for anybody with limited d so space or with an OCD of tidiness.

Nice looking stand, but overpriced
by Tom M. (4 out of 5 stars)
November 26, 2018

I ended up choosing this stand because I found it to be the best designed and best looking vertical stand on Amazon.

I took off one star because of the price. As other reviewers say, $50 is too much in terms of product/quality vs price. I actually got this for $40 with a promo code but even at that, it's still a bit high. This should be priced at $25, maybe $30 at the most--the quality of the metal and rubber is good but it's literally just that; a piece of cut and curved metal and some rubber inserts.

That said, I look at it as paying a little more for the best designed vertical laptop stand on Amazon outside of Henge docks which are significantly more expensive.

A necessary accessory.

I like the way it looks on my desk. It looks elegant and it's functional too. I didn't think that I needed it right until I started looking for accessories for my MacBook Air 2019 and I was shown many laptop stands. And I realized that if I wanted to read or write on my journal I would need free space. But I wasn't going to just set my laptop asides. It had to be put in an elegant, practical and secure way. The stand is sturdy. It doesn't flex or anything. It just stays put with the weight of my laptop and I don't have to fight with it when I need to take it from or leave it on the stand. The color space gray matches my laptop beautifully. The interchangeable inserts are great in case that I decide to buy a different MacBook model. I think that the price was right for the quality of this product and I would even recommend it to anyone who is thinking about getting a stand like this.
