Doesn't live up to the hype
by PJB (2 out of 5 stars)

I just returned my Neuroon today, which should you give you an idea of what I thought about it. The mask okay but definitely not worth the price. Yes, it does analyze your sleep but this should not be a finished product being shipped as such. This is a beta quality item at best. My biggest issues with this product are as follows:
-The battery life is absolutely terrible. I average about 5 hours of sleep a night and the battery only lasted through one and a half nights before it died. So if you average 7-8 hours a night of sleep, expect to charge this every day.
-When using it the "signal" is constantly lost while I sleep, so only about 2-3 hours of my sleep is actually analyzed. The rest of the time comes up as black on data output saying signal lost. I could understand this is you toss and turn in your sleep but I sleep on my back and move very little, if at all while sleeping.
-The only way to track your sleep is with the sleep mode. If you use the nap modes it doesn't track your quality of sleep. This means if you were going to try to use this mask for polyphasic sleeping, such as advertised when the mask first was introduced on Kickstarter, you are either out of luck for tracking your quality of sleep or you are constantly reprogramming the mask because you can only set one alarm for your daily normal daily routine and one other alarm for an unexpected change in your daily routine.

This mask has potential but I don't understand how a mask 3 years in the making all of a sudden has its "final" product rushed to market when it is clearly not ready for primetime, or maybe this is as good as they can get it. Either way, in its current form this mask doesn't doesn't do any better of a job of tracking my sleep than my current iphone and I have finally a device with a battery life worse than my Apple Watch. As for waking you with light to help you feel refreshed, which is about the only good thing that I found with this mask, I can get that from a $35 light box and save $280.

If you are thinking of buying this device I would wait a few years until it's ready and in the meantime use a cheap regular sleep mask with a sleep tracking app for your phone and a light box. This will give you the same experience as this mask and save you several hundred dollars.

Numerous Technical Issues, Good at blocking light and waking me up
by Jade Lightweaver (3 out of 5 stars)
February 1, 2017

TL,DR:

I purchased this in December and was very excited to start using it.

Cons:

Numerous unresolved technical issues.

PRO's:
4/5 for actually blocking light effectively.
5/5 for Waking me up with no alarm clock

End of TL,DR.

Excitement waned rapidly.

The device appears to have been used some according to its stored data, it had 49 sessions in it when I received.

I noticed the App for iOS has the months for my Birthday, completely wrong.

It is showing 2 of half the months, I.E., JAN, JAN, MAR, MAR. (SO its glitched).

When I first turn on the mask, I must open the App and then close it, and open again in order for it to see the mask is on.

Otherwise when you hit, Begin Sleep button, it says the mask isn't on.

If you try and re-pair the bluetooth connection, it has to re sync the data to the app for some reason, which can take upwards of 30 minutes as its almost a minute per sleep session.

The nap mode doesn't bother to collect any analytics.

The Lucid Dreaming has yet to be released.

The feature for it detecting that you are trying to go to sleep, supposedly works, but it leaves bright blue LED's shining in your eyes, which prevent the going to sleep part.

If you turn that feature off, and just hit start sleep, it works fine.

Otherwise nap mode operates with the BRIGHT BLUE LED's in your eyes.

As for the analytics, they seem alright, but there is no customization available.

Here's the biggest issue, how the hell does all of this end up in a product that is being sold as done and not Beta/Alpha?

Clearly Neuroon has a good idea, but the execution of that idea is exceptionally flawed.

The only reason this is getting 3 stars is because I do use it every night.

Eventually, I expect these bugs to be worked out.

I really love the Neuroon mask

I really love the Neuroon mask. I always have trouble waking up in the morning, but this mask makes waking up much more pleasant with the light therapy. It's also great for using on the plane, as I have been traveling quite a bit the past month.

The Neuroon mask is seamless and easy to use. The instructions are very clearly stated which makes the mask setup quick and painless. It took me a few days to get used to sleeping with the mask, as I am a stomach sleeper (which isn't good anyway), but now I don't notice the difference. I would highly recommend this mask.

Great Idea... Pre-alpha execution.
by Bobby K. (1 out of 5 stars)

Unfortunately, the devil is in the details. Syncing required deleting, reinstalling, and re-pairing the device to my phone, every single time. Frequent app crashes. Worst of all, the build quality was horrendous. Any pressure or flexion on the actual circuitry caused resets and the status LEDs to flicker or go out.

Enhances the power nap
by Ryan (5 out of 5 stars)

I took this sleep mask on a trip with me where I was visiting 3 cities in 5 days, conducting 12 podcast interviews. What you DON'T want is to be yawning when listening to someone talk - that kills the conversation, makes the other person feel non-important, and is distracting.

This can extend to any in-person business meeting. Rest makes you alert, and this mask helps you rest.

If you're taking a 30 min or 90 min power nap, it is great at waking you up, feeling refreshed and not groggy. It does this by simulating daylight in the mask.

I brought it on the airplane with me. As a tall man (6' 3"), I find it difficult to sleep on planes, so it was not good for me in that regard, but taking it off of the plane and simply using it to re-fresh myself during the trip is useful. It has a feature to fight against jet lag, but I did not use this much either. Going west is great for me because I wake up before the sun rises. Going East will be the real test.

The user interface is intuitive, and for those parts that might not seem so intuitive, the NeuroOn team is very approachable and wants to improve the product.

End result: If you're a busy business traveler, this is a great way to meditate for 20 minutes and get outside of yourself. It will also wake you up using that daylight-producing light in the mask, so no need to set an alarm which will end abruptly.

Plus, its a great conversation piece.

Rip-Off!!!

Horrible design and cheaply made.

Great idea, needs to cook in development for a little longer
by JRD (3 out of 5 stars)

I got this mask hoping to be better able to understand my sleep. I think eventually they will manage to turn this mask into a great product but at this moment its a bit under cooked.
1) Firmware updates are a problem, i'm sure this will be fixed but for the moment I cannot actually update my firmware.
2) The sleep mask has a variety of sensors this would lead one who is buying the mask to think that it would be possible to see what any one of those sensors are reading at a point in time. However this is very far from the case, the mask will do calculations biased on the senor values but will not ever give you a point in time value for any of the sensors. This is a huge problem because you have no way to know if the sensors are reading correctly or indeed at all.

So sure the mask may have a eeg and spo2, pusle and other sensors but it does not matter because you can never know if its telling you that it thinks you woke up because you moved or because your eeg changed.

As an example in the middle of the night i took my mask off the system showed that I was awake for 4 hours, even though the EEG, spo2 and all other sensors should of shown the person either died in their sleep or was not wearing the mask. This would lead me to think that it is not reading the eeg and SP02 and pusle correctly. I have no way to know since you cannot ever see any of the data. What is the point in having 6 sensors on a 300 device is the data results look very similar to a fitbit?

One might think that you can also buy this device to give you analytical information on your sleep like the old ZEO, however you cannot since the device does not let you control those annoying LED's that shine light into your face while you sleep. It should have a data collect only mode.

Again interesting product great vision but something is deeply flawed in creating such an expesive device that will not tell you what its sensors are saying leaving me to wonder if all the sensors are even working at this time. It would be incredibly easy to build a chart showing each sensors reading over the course of the night.

Also the mask does not fit well if you have sleep apena and wear anything for that.

I spoke to support at some point they said they will release a developer version that gives you access to the raw data via an API. I still think they need to realize that most people who want to strap 6 sensors to their head at night might also want to know what those sensors are saying. (If for no other reason to validate to that the device is working right)

this one is by far the best. All the other sleep trackers track either pillow ...
by Dominik Andrzejczuk (5 out of 5 stars)

Compared to all the other sleep trackers that are out there on the market, this one is by far the best. All the other sleep trackers track either pillow motion, or motion of my wrist or whatever....and never really give you the best outcome.

Neuroon's no brainer approach of wearing a mask, whilst tracking brain activity in my opinion is the highest resolution tracking of sleeping patterns. I highly recommend this product for anyone and am looking forward to all the future software updates, that will eventually make this a better product.

Neuroon-Creating Better Sleep Habits
by Angel (5 out of 5 stars)
May 23, 2016

I purchased my Neuroon on Amazon about two weeks ago and love it! The small card inside the packaging with instructions made getting set-up seamless.

The application is one of the most professional looking apps I've seen in a while. The layout is slick, super responsive, and full of insightful information about my sleeping habits. I would assume most people would use this product for traveling; however with my off the wall sleep habits, I have found the Bright Light Therapy feature to be my favorite. While I sleep, the Neuroon will gradually apply Bright Light Therapy to reschedule my body clock. After a few days of sleeping with the mask, I felt like I was truly able to fall asleep easier and track my progress.

The hardware itself is nifty. The mask comes with an adjustable elastic strap and uses memory foam to fit the form of my face. The sensor pack can be removed and charged using any micro USB cord. I was pleasantly surprised the sensor's are actually gold plated and the pack is made from soft hypoallergenic silicone. Considering I have sensitive skin, I was relieved it didn't cause any breakouts during the night.

Overall, I would highly recommend this device if you need help creating better sleep habits. With a robust mobile app, I would say is the FitBit to sleep.

Fun beginner's toy/entry level product
by rainy (3 out of 5 stars)
February 26, 2019

I bought this on Touch of Modern catalog.

It is a fun new toy and I like being able to see my sleep cycle.

The battery life is pretty good.

For a beginner/entry level consumer product it is good, but it has a long way to go.

The app is the biggest weak point. I think they rushed it. I hope there is an update because we do pay a lot and deserve better.

It does not explain what the sleep "score" means, or how it is computed.

It does not explain other things like what "noise" means.

The music is awful. I have to mute my phone. They should sync it up with those fun binaural beat type meditation things instead of that horrible midi piano.

The mask connects with Bluetooth, which makes it impossible to use your Bluetooth headphones with it.

I think the mask itself would be better if it had the mic and headphones built in, too.

I'm glad I got it as a toy and enjoy seeing the sleep report in the morning but I can see losing interest over time because of the many weaknesses of the product. I hope they offer upgrades to early buyers.
