Interior lining of the bag started to unravel within 2 ...

Interior lining of the bag started to unravel within 2 months of purchase. All other features of the bag work as described which would've made it possibly a 3 star but I took off another star because when attempting to go through with a warranty claim all XD Design did was send me a feedback survey with no attempt to rectify the design flaw in their bag.

Cheaply made

After six months the interior lining of the bag started to rip. All I use it for is to store cloths for my bike ride.

Wish I had known it didn't have the space I needed before I bought it

Although there's a lot to like about this backpack, I do wish I had researched it more before buying as it now sits in the corner - unused and now I'm using my old backpack. First the positive, I love the ability to sit in the airport, bus, train, whatever and keep my devices charged using the wiring system in the XD Design. I like "concealed" zippers and the potential security it provides, although honestly I've never had a problem with anyone trying to steal my backpack or rip my backpack so I don't totally get the rip-proof material (but that's my problem, ok?)...It was comfortable to wear on my shoulders and I can't complain about that. However, I do wish I had investigated the capacity of the bag more - paid more attention to how it opened, because it has a very limited range that it can open due to velcro and snaps that restrict the opening of the bag (it's really hard to explain, they should make a YouTube video showing how the bag opens (or doesn't)). Also, the bag accommodates a 13" MacBook Pro easily, but it doesn't accommodate an iPad - the sleeve for a tablet computer is very small and not very deep, so my 9.7" iPad Pro doesn't not fit into this sleeve. On the other side of the bag, there are several pockets, but none are that large and hold that much. The worst part is that the bag itself doesn't open up much to be able to see what's inside so that when I tried to put an umbrella and/or a water bottle inside a) there wasn't really enough room to put them, and b) you couldn't see where they were going and had to just guide them somewhere by hand. So now you can see why the Bobby by XD Design is sitting over in the corner and I'm now back to using my old trusty Columbia backpack with numerous pockets that accommodate everything!

Poor quality construction

Very disappointed with the backpack as the seam on the inside of the backpack has ripped. I took the backpack on only one 10 day trip and used it maybe 1/3 of the time. I would expect a $95 backpack to last a little longer....

Bad quality. Lack of space
by Mijaia (1 out of 5 stars)

I think it's a very expensive backpack for that poor manufacturer quality. I used it for 6 weeks with no extra weight and the inner seams started to break. Although the design lets you to keep your stuffs in a very organized way, I think it's not enough space for some people (for example an academic profile)

Dissapointed...

I just got the backpack and noticed that it's a defective product. Sewing on the area of the black front and gray side got crinkled a lot. And overall quality of the product is not what I expected.

What an insane ripoff

I am not in the habit or position to purchase $75.00 backpacks. My daughter wanted this bag for school so badly that she saved her babysitting money to buy it. It took her a while and the day we ordered it she was very excited. We ordered this in late February and when she got it she was ecstatic. She put her (minimal) notebooks in it (her school doesn't use textbooks) and she said "it feels weird". We adjusted it, it was better, but still uncomfortable. She wanted to try it for a few days to see if it needed to be broken in. It was still awful and got worse. I feel awful that my daughter spent her hard earned money on this piece of crap. I feel worse that the company never bothered to respond to my inquiries and emails. Don't buy this and don't deal with this company.

Compact yes! But still a great bag.

I am very pleased with this purchase, but this bag is not for everyone. This is a compact bag. You cannot fill this bag with a lot of textbooks or even a regular box. Everything I needed, including my textbooks were on my small laptop, so the design worked for me. I am pleased with the bag because it is very difficult to get into easily from behind. The zipper for the main compartment can also be secured with a small lock if necessary. I have been able to fit the following in this bag at one time: 11 inch chrome book, 1 subject spiral notebook, 2 file folders, one 5 inch portable charger, one chrome book charger, small bottle of vitamins, backpack cover, wallet, iphone, and one square lunch bag containing (2 cubed sandwiches), 1 bottle of water, and 2 snack bars.

I literally had to measure the bag and find a square-flat lunch bag that would fit holding a drink and sandwiches. The bag can also hold my 15 inch laptop, but not with the lunch bag too.

The cool thing about this bag is all of the hidden and protected compartments. I kept my wallet, iphone, and house keys in these tiny secret gems. I even stashed my bus tickets in the shoulder straps (which I secured with a little Velcro tape).

This bag is perfect for commuters, people who only use e-textbooks, and people who keep their important things on tablets, small laptops, and phone.

Perfect for crowded cities
by Samantha TBD (5 out of 5 stars)

This backpack was prefect for crowded European cities where pickpocketing is a problem. We felt totally secure in keeping things in the bag throughout our trip. Others even commented on how they wished they had thought to get a better backpack before the trip.

Fits a lot of books, but with not too much space left for anything else.

I bought this for an upcoming trip to the Philippines just in case, though despite the amount of cutpurses I hear about from family when they talk about the country, I doubt I'd be pickpocketed from since I don't plan on walking around in the city so I can't speak much about its anti-theft features, but I also bought it to maybe replace my Herschel Little America Mid-Volume backpack which can barely hold one 1.5" binder, one 382-page 7" x 10" paperback textbook, one 132-page paperback workbook with the same dimensions, and one of those neoprene pencil cases placed on top of all of that, and not much else. This backpack, however, holds the binder along with two each of the textbooks and workbooks, plus the pencil case on top.

It won't fit an additional cloth shopping bag from Vans without being a pain in the ass to close though, but you'll probably have an easier time fitting that in than you will when trying to fit another 114-page paperback textbook with the same dimensions as the other books. I managed to shoehorn the textbook right now though, and if you want to add something as thick as the shopping bag or the 114-page textbook, I suggest not opening the zipper all the way down because the place where I have trouble closing the zippers at when the bag is full is around 6"-9" from the bottom where there are snap buttons which if you unsnap them, you can open the main compartment at a 180ยบ angle for airports. The only thing else that will fit after I force the 114-page textbook in is a Kindle Oasis. I also only had trouble stuffing in that last textbook when I filled the pockets inside. It wasn't AS bad as was a LITTLE bit easier when they were empty. I doubt I'd be able to fit a thermos or something in the pocket meant for that though with all that in there. The company doesn't recommend filling this bag this much of course, because I think the reason was it will deform the bag.

I wish the smaller pockets inside were removable though like another reviewer said, so I can maybe remove the pockets for school use, and put them back on for traveling so I'd have a bit more space for textbooks when being used for college while still having pockets to put little items in when I travel.

Personally, I just use the Herschel bag for 3 out of the 4 days I go to school when I only have one class and only need the binder and one textbook and workbook since that bag is more fashionable-looking, and then use this for the one other day when I need/want to bring all four or five books for both of my Japanese classes.

Edit: I've added a picture with all the stuff I have in the main compartment, and because I filled this bag full to bursting, I can feel a small bump on the side that touches my back. But other than this bump, it feels like I'm carrying something way lighter than I actually am. Unlike my Kipling backpack where I'd have a hell of a hard time walking 20 minutes from home to school and back with this much in it because you can feel ALL the weight that is actually inside. My Herschel bag though, also makes what I'm carrying feel a lot lighter too, but of course, it can only carry like, only half as much as this does. Oh, and that little slit on one of the straps for a bus pass or credit card or whatever else that fits? Well, I put my bus pass there, but I'm always afraid of it slipping out without me noticing because sometimes when I'm wearing it, the bus pass peeks out, and it feels like it's just a little bit away from falling out. Maybe a zipper or something would've helped with that.
