Product Description

When hackers, companies, or governments gain remote access control of your laptop, tablet or smartphone, they're able to turn on the webcam-an action that causes the microphone to go live, too. While being watched is bad enough, being recorded without your permission is even worse. Are you sure your conversations are private?

Be sure with Mic-Lock, the only digital anti-spying sound blocker on the market! Mic-Lock is the first and only device to offer unbeatable protection against hackers and spies attempting to listen in on you.

Here's how it works! Mic-Lock uses a proprietary semiconductor circuit to simulate a live 3.5mm microphone on your personal devices. When plugged in, Mic-Lock will automatically become the device's primary "microphone" by mimicking expected electrical properties of a normal microphone. Mic-Lock "tricks" your device into thinking it's a live microphone but blocks audio input.

The compact design is perfect for traveling to work, school, vacations, or anywhere you may be headed. Simply plug it into your laptop, phone, or tablet and you're ready to go!

Directions for use: 1. Remove rubber keychain top. 2. Plug Mic-Lock into your 3.5mm microphone/headphone port. 3. Voilà! Mic-Lock will block all audio from being transmitted.

Mic-Lock is safe to use on all devices. For complete audio and visual protection, use with our webcam cover. Combo and multi packs are available now.

Features

  • KEEP CONVERSATIONS PRIVATE! Mic-Lock secures your device’s microphone input with a lifetime guarantee. When plugged in, Mic-Lock will automatically becomes the device’s primary “microphone” which prevents others from listening in.
  • PREVENT CYBER ATTACKERS: Our one-piece privacy solution prevents audio hackers from using your microphones or even your speakers to listen to you.
  • THE ONLY DIGITAL ANTI-SPYING SOUND PREVENTOR: Mic-Lock tricks your electronic device into believing its microphone is occupied by copying the exact signal a microphone generates, thus preventing cyber attackers from using it.
  • SIMPLE AND EASY TO USE: Remove rubber keychain top, plug into our 3.5mm headphone port, and you are good to go! Works with any device with a 3.5mm port, like laptops, desktop computers, cell phones, and tablets.
  • COMPACT DESIGN: The compact design is perfect for traveling to work, school, vacations, or anywhere you may be headed. Simply plug it into your laptop, phone, or tablet and you’re ready to go!

Works!
by Barb (4 out of 5 stars)

I purchased these because I was so tired of getting bombarded with ads within 48 hours for things that I would talk about in normal discussion with family or friends if my any of my devices were near me.

I tested these on a couple computers, cell phones, and a couple of different iPads.

Pros:
-Voice memos, voice commands, video recording, phone calls, all only register static. The devices are still trying to hear you, but only static is recorded.
-it's about 1/2 inch long, width around about the size of a pencil eraser, so it's very easy to plug in and unplug from the headphone jack.
-when I have it plugged in, I can do everything I've done before on my devices.
-I am oddly and sarcastically satisfied that ever since I started using these, that bombardment of ads related to anything I had said, are no longer popping up. Ads still drive me crazy, but now they are completely random, and not from stuff I mentioned in conversation with a device near me.

Cons:
-I can hear my phone ring, but that is it. I cannot hear what the caller is saying (it makes sense, because it creates a loop from the microphone with the speaker of the device).
-I can't hear any notification or text sounds.
-because of its size, you have to be careful not to bump it.
-it works with the ordinary headphone plug. However, I have an updated iPhone that does not have the standard headphone plug. But, I easily just used the accessory that plugs into the charging plug that doubles for headphone use, and the results are the same as listed with "standard" headphone plug.

It passed all my tests.

I ordered a 3 pack to see if it really worked. Now I wish I got the 10 pack from the start. So, I'll have 13 of these.

I tested the Mic-Lock on a Samsung Galaxy S7 and MacBook Pro. For the Galaxy S7 I called my phone without the Mic-Lock installed and I could hear myself. During the same phone call I installed the Mic Lock and the audio was lost.

On the MacBook Pro I tested it by recording with Audacity. Without the Mic Lock installed room sound was recorded by the internal microphone. After plugging in the Mic-Lock the recording waveform went flat. I also tested it with a Conshine Headset Adapter for CTIA Headsets With Separate Headphone And Microphone Plugs, 3.5mm Stereo Audio Male to 2 Female Headset Mic Y Splitter Cable Adapter -Blue and Audacity recorded room sound with the internal microphone despite having a mic jack plugged in. Even with the Mic Lock plugged in the splitter mic input and in the headphone simultaneously Audacity still recorded room sound via the internal mic, which seemed strange.

I also plugged in the microphone jack of Bose headphones into the MacBook Pro with the headphone jack end not plugged in to anything and the internal microphone still recorded. Of the various headphone and microphone jack configurations that I tried only the Mic-Lock stopped audio.

Although the Mic-Lock alone stops user accessible sounds I would be very surprised if this could stop the NSA from secretly activating your microphone. As Edward Snowden has said, the NSA can activate each component of your device, camera, microphone, etc., independently with no indication the device is in use. Still, I feel better with it than without it.

On a side note, remember that your speakers also act as microphones, including headphones. Unless you physically disconnect your speakers they could be used as microphones to spy on you.

Love these things
by AmazonFan (5 out of 5 stars)

Love these things. I'm a super private person and I hate the thought of apps listening to my conversations etc. I got really annoyed when I started noticing that things I had talked about were showing up in my Instagram feed or Facebook Ads. I did some research and it's very documented that they listen in and advertise to you accordingly. I know it's not a big deal but I'm a little like Ron Swanson so I saw this as an alternative to throwing my computer in the dumpster.

Ringer works...
by Branden M. (5 out of 5 stars)
December 8, 2017

When my phone's ringer is "on", I hear it. I also hear my alarms. You will not hear a caller while this is plugged in; simply unplug it, and both you can hear the caller, and they can hear you. I wanted to clarify that, since another review said the ringer doesn't work...mine works fine, on a Motorola E series.

If you have a headphone jack and want an extra layer of privacy you should get it.
by Xian (4 out of 5 stars)

If you have a headphone jack and want an extra layer of privacy you should get it. I even tried this on a new iPhone without a jack but with an adapter and it worked. Only if I hit speakerphone then it defaulted to the on-board mic. So this is a very cool idea without having to like retrofit a mic switch and void warranties. So nothing is always 100% but I do appreciate this extra layer of protection like screen covers for the camera. Btw all you can hear on the other end is just the line open sound. AKA the comfort tone. :) In other words when someone put you on mute vs hold with occasional prompts or music.

They really helped out
by Ricketts (5 out of 5 stars)

Bought a 5 pack. Laptop 1 (Acer): No change, device still uses internal mic, but the mic-bloc cuts out the speakers, so I can't block the mic without losing the ability to watch a movie or do youtube, etc. Laptop 2 (HP): Mic-block works, but by completely killing the recording function of the laptop. As soon as you plug it in, the laptop stops recording, firing off a recording error message.

They look nice though. I'm not saying they won't work for everyone, quite possible with some windows tweaking, and maybe depending on drivers etc on your laptop possibly they could work fine.

Update Feb 4th, 2019 - The owner of the company, Ric, reached out to work with me on the issues I was having, and has offered some awesome alternative suggestions that look like they will help. That is great personalized customer service, I've changed my rating to 5 stars based on this. The customer experience is important and they really came through for me. Thanks Ric!

Kind of a mixed bag (updated Oct 1, 2019)
by Rindahl (2 out of 5 stars)

I'll write a more in-depth review later but wanted to make this point so others won't be surprised.

In an Android phone or tablet, this device blocks both Speaker and Mic. You can't leave this in and hear anything so it's of limited value. For example, i use my Phone as an alarm clock, which won't work at all with the "Mic-Loc" in place.

Update: 2019-10-01
---------------------------------

This device effectively does what it says, unfortunately it does more than it says.

Pros:
+ Stops the built in mic from operating
+ Fits even if you have a phone case (more below)
+ Fits in my tablet cases that are thick (fits in the hole the case has in it)
+ Relatively easy to insert and extract (big enough to get a hold of

Cons:
- Stops the speaker from working, not just the mic
- Height of device while beneficial for handling can block some charging cables (more below)
- Use on devices where jack in on the bottom edge may not allow use while in a stand or holder

On the Fit. The device has enough space to allow it to work with thin phone cases and still plug all the way into the phone. My phone is like that so the extra barrel length that some have complained about is good. However for thick cases you need to make sure the opening in the case is big enough to fit the body of the device through it (my tablet is tight).

Location of jack and interference. This Mic Blocker is about 1.5cm or 1/5" long. I use a right angle charging cable and the jack for the headphones is next to the charging port so i can't use both of these at the same time. I have to either take it out or use a straight charging cable.

On another phone the headphone jack is on the bottom of the phone and i can't fit into holders (desk stands or dashboard holders) with this in the bottom. If you need this then you have to buy a flat mic blocker (they also are listed on Amazon).

Overall the most troublesome thing about this is it blocks the speaker from working not just the mic. I find it to be annoying and i'm removing another star for this so i'm down to 2 stars.

Recommended... meh... you decide. It might be just what you need but for me it's a no.

Does not work with Fire Tablets or mini iPad
by Jill (1 out of 5 stars)
November 14, 2018

I purchased them to block my fire tablets from chiming in every time I talk about ordering something on Amazon. One Worked with my old 7 inch fire tablet. Did not work on any of the newer 8 or 10 inch Fire Tablets. Nor did it work with my mini iPad. Basically, its a good idea that does not work.

Perfect for desktop. laptop or tablet.
by Timmyh13 (5 out of 5 stars)

This works great on any device that has a separate mic in and stereo audio out. It defeats all the mics on your device and believe me I tested every configuration including Bluetooth and it does what it says. On my iPhone which has a combination mic in/headphone out 3.5 mm jack it muted both the mic and audio out. This wasn't ideal for me, so I purchased the second gen with the sound pass for the iPhone. But you can't beat this for your Computer, laptop or tablet!!!

Effectively disables pc mic, but beware it disables speakers as well. I'd like to still be able to use the speakers.
