NO pesticides!

Update: See Picture. The tomatoes have been going strong for 200 days! I get a large handful every few days. On the left are California Wonder Bell Peppers. They have been growing for 80 days and are LOADED with beautiful bell peppers. I had to stop pollinating because I was getting too many. Of course I can cut a few off to spur larger peppers. I won't lie... the Aerogarden does take some work. I change the water in mine completely every month and I use distilled water (I distill my own). Also, I have found that there are much better quality nutrients available (for a better price) than the miracle grow brand. I continue to be pretty darn happy with my Farm.

Update: See picture. This is my garden after exactly 30 days. I have eaten several salads from the lettuce and herb side and my cherry tomato plants are blossoming. I am shaking the tomato plants gently every day in hopes that I will be able to achieve pollination. Amazing. With a little luck, I will have indoor cherry tomatoes after the outdoor season is over in my area very soon.

Super easy to set up and after a month is working great and I have robust, amazing tomato plants and wonderful lettuce and herbs growing. The wifi app works great and is in some ways better than the touch screen because if you use it on your tablet or even some larger devices the controls are larger and easier to tap.

I did have one seed pod that did not germinate and I did not contact Customer Service for a replacement, but from everything I have read they will readily replace any pods that do not germinate.

I distill my own water and used distilled water and will top off with distilled water always. Even though I did I do have some algae growing in the fill spot on the unit.

My power bill was only a few dollars different so I don't expect any massive expense running the unit.

The unit I received runs super quiet and the heat output from the lights isn't that bad.

I plan on buying another Farm Plus soon! Store bought is so passe. Everyone, and I mean everyone, should be growing something they eat at home and the aerogarden brand has a model that fits almost any space and budget.

So happy I took the plunge and bought the farm!

A very powerful alternative to dirt gardens, Though you may not need it, customer service is bleak c

The Aerogarden Farm plus is a big unit! Sporting dimensions 36" W x 12" D x 34" H.

Like with most things that require you to assemble, the assemblage will be as easy as the directions. And for the most part, this was pretty darn easy. There are 10 screws and a couple of electrical things to plug in but each should be approached with common sense and shouldn't pose a problem. Assemblage took about 40 minutes and all I needed was their Allen tool.

Once put together you are asked to follow the instructions on the screen and to download the app. Again, some of it is a little vague but you can figure it out. I didn't want to use the right side of the unit just yet and could not find a way to turn that side off. A note to the company wasn't answered for almost 5 days but came back to say that you can unplug the right side in the back of the unit if I wanted to. If I don't want to pull the unit out and unplug it, the light will stay off but It would be so much better to just let the unit know via the touch screen or smartphone that there is a side without plants. I couldn't figure it out without their help (prior to writing the letter I called them and after a 25-minute hold that then recycled back to the opening greeting I gave up).

Basically you are going to put water into the bins at the bottom (or just use one), and put your pods that you purchase from AeroGarden into the holes, tell the unit what you are growing and the rest is just time. I may have mentioned in the video that they should mark the height of the plants so you know where to put them (Tall in the back), and sure enough, they DO put the words Tall, Medium or Short on the name of the pods I just needed my glasses to see those words.

Luckily, the Aero garden is pretty simple in its essential concept that you should be able to figure it out. It's very quiet and the LED lights stay pretty cool throughout the 17 hours stint.

There are metal plant supports that fit in horizontally like a net to support large growth. It's been just over a week and every herb in that kit that comes with it has sprouted.

Considering all you need is water, their nutrients, and the plants - it's easy to see why those of you who want an alternative to earth gardening would use this Aero-Garden!

Works great for two people, MUST use bottled water to grow
by SuburbanHousewifeMN (5 out of 5 stars)
March 30, 2018

Wow- this was an interesting review to do. At the current price point I would say the top three things to know are this:
1) This produces as well as the photos ONLY if you use the bottles water as strongly recommended in the instruction manual. You cannot use tap water, water that has been softened, or anything non-filtered if you want a lush garden. If you look closely at the woman watering her garden in the images, you can see she has bottles water.
2) It isn't enough to feed a salad to a family of four more than once or twice a week. We harvested the lettuce and tomatoes (lettuce was ready weeks before the tomatoes) twice a week and the lettuce couldn't recoup fast enough, dying off before the tomatoes were even ready. It's best for a duo or solo house, unless you purchase two.
3) You have to have a location the light can be on for 11-14 hours per day. This is a simulated sunlight, so it is bright. If you are someone who needs darkness to sleep well, or you don't have a separate room to place it in (remember it's sizable and uses space) you might want something smaller.

This was a months long adventure for me. I am NOT an expert and tried to follow pruning instructions as best as I could, plus we DID NOT purchase bottled water for this trial. We used tap water, and we have a water softener so DO NOT make final purchase decisions based on our outcome. I wanted a realistic test for people who would think "I'm not going to haul 5 gallon drums of water home every week to fill and water these things, what harm could my drinking tap water do?" Well, you get plants with some yellowing leaves, but they still grow.

Set up took about 30-40 minutes. The parts and instructions are very standard- pictures and words included. Make sure you set up near where your outlet will be for the device. You don't want to move this around much. Especially once you fill the basins with water. Also think about placing somewhere that can handle water- in the even you spill while filling/refilling. I had these oopsies on multiple occasions as there is no good place to pour in the water. They have tiny corner trays to do this, but they aren't wide enough for a standard pour size- you almost need a nozzle (again see photo of lady watering) to make this work. I don't have one and wasn't going to purchase one for this, so I used my lemonade pitcher to pour water in.

Speaking of adding water- the system NEVER told me to add water as indicated by the instruction manual. I did have difficulty trying to figure out the water level set up inside the tanks when assembling. This part was very unclear and it might be something I did. I NEVER saw an "add water" indicator light until I unplugged one side when it was finished. If I had waited for one, I feel like my pants would have started to die first.

The "add nutrients" indicator worked very well. Like clockwork it popped up and reminded me to add the manure-smelling, liquid concoction every so many days. Once these are open they aren't 100% drip proof. Odd since the storage in the top end of the unit requires you to lay them down sideways! I had quite the slow-leak mess to clean up one day. These settle out, so be sure to shake them before you add them to the water. Also, I don't know how, and it only happened in the tomatoe side, but algae grew inside the water container fill-spot during this growing cycle (see photos).

On schedule, the plants emerged and grew. The tomatoes seemed to take longer to really take hold, but the lettuce was on its way. So much that it soon dwarfed the chives (they never thrived and withered quickly) dill (never even sprouted), and basil (short lived because it couldn't get enough light). There were no instructions on WHERE or what order to "plant" the pods so I feel this could have been more successful had the placement of the herbs to lettuce been better. Same on tomatoe plants. I guessed at placing them around the edges vs the middle for better spacing, but this resulted in the outside of the plants not producing- again because of lighting?

I attempted to follow the instructions for the harvesting of the lettuce and the pruning of the tomatoes. Lettuce regrowth was very slow, and the tomatoe leaves yellowed out after my first pruning. I thought I was going to loose them compeltley, but after pruning back the yellowing branches they bounced back and started flowering. Whew! The lettuce never fully recovered and I eventually harvested to the base and emptied out the system on that side. A second round of tomatoes are coming in now, so it will be another week before I can start the system over.

I have ourchaeed the herb kit for my next grow. we use far more herbs than lettuce and tomatoes, plus I like them fresh vs dried. I suspect we we get a better yield and growth out of them AS I WILL BUY the bottled water this time. I will update the review to let you know how it grows this time.

As for the app: useless. Well, it reminds you when it's time for nutrients, but there's little else it can do. You can't adjust lights on it because it errors and says it's not safe. This is unfortunate if you go out of town and know that your plants are growing quickly. You have to set them higher before you leave, possibly disrupting their growth pattern. As for the nutrient reminder, the machine itself displays that on the LCD screen so it's a repeated notification.

Overall I enjoyed this enough to order more growing pods I like that (direct form their website, not here) you can pick individual pods to do a "make your own" collection kit. I'm looking forward to the herbs.
*note: if you have a pod that doesn't take, call them right away. They will send a FREE replacement pod(s) that you can use.

Are you sure you want to pay $300 per square foot to grow basil and cherry tomatoes?

It's a cool $800 gadget, but for less than $200 you can buy something like the $129 Phlizon 1200W High Power Series Plant LED Grow Light plus all the pots, potting soil, and seeds you need for the same harvest. I'm having fun with it and will keep it, but instead of buying three more as I'd planned, I'm going to expand using soil. Don't get me started about the slapdash, chaotic, and inaccurate assembly and use instructions.

I'm really surprised by how quickly items germinate in this thing. The only pod which hasn't come up (within the last month) would be marked "Chives". My mother beat me to chives in soil...I'm not sure what is up with that pod. They are "guaranteed" to grow. Other than that, love it! Great for starting larger plants for potting while keeping herbs away from rodents, insects and birds.

Had the unit about 4 days now. Half of what I planted has already sprouted (salad kit). Didn't realize til I set unit up that the lights move with the touch of a button (up/down). Everything functions great (although had a little trouble with the water sensor & called customer service-they were a help).

No assembly / installation instructions in box.

Received the AeroGarden Farm Plus for Christmas and just assembled it today (February 21st), so I can't comment yet oon how well or how easy it works. My "complaint" is that there were no assembly / installation instructions in box. It wasn't too difficult to figure out (although I had some tubing I didn't know what to do with until I finally found the instructions on-line). Will update this review after I gain some experience with actually using the product.

Perfect solution for older adults

I have owned a Farm plus for a 8 months and have produced enough veggies that I decided to purchase a Farm Xl. I like the idea that I can grow 37 plants or more year round in a 14 inch x 6 ft space that would require at least a 10x 20 foot traditional garden. Assembly and set up is simple with the Farm Xl up and running within 1/2 hour. Very happy with the looks of the Farm models and have no issue with them being the centerpiece of my living room. Cleaning and sanitizing my Farm Plus takes about a half hour when I replant, I change out the filter add water and nutrients and back in grow mode within 15 minutes. Takes about a half hour once a month to change out the water and nutrients. Excited to try to grow taller plants in the Farm XL, love the indoor farming concept and think I may buy another 12 inch farm and start stacking the Farms.

This product was purchased for my Mom who loves it and is already seeing lettuce and tomatoes sprouting. However, it was very late on delivery (but did arrive before Christmas) and arrived without any instructions on puttting it together. While those two issues were very annoying, the company did make up for the delayed delivery by sending the plus model without extra charge, and I was able to obtain the instructions on the internet. All in all, I'm very happy with the purchase and the company.

Easy to set up & Maintain
by MirandaC (4 out of 5 stars)
April 11, 2019

My Aerogarden Farm Plus came with 2 seed pod kits. The Salad Bar Herbs & Lettuce was missing 3 out of the 12 seed pods. It came with only 9 lettuce seed pods that came with only enough domes to cover 5 of the nine lettuce seed pods. It was missing all of the herbs: Chives, Dill & Genovese Basil. The Salad Bar Tomatoes came with only 4 of the 12 seed pods, 2 each of the Heirloom Cheery Tomatoes & 2 Golden Harvest. I contacted Aerogarden by chat and was connected within 5 minutes. They are sending off the missing herbs and domes. They explained to me that the garden can only hold 4 tomato plants so the kit only contains 4 tomato seed pods and 8 spacers, not 12 seed pods like advertised. I will be receiving extra spacers and plant food along with the missing herb pods and domes. I think if they advertised 12 seed pods for 12 plants, they should send 12 seed pods and annotate on their instructions that the garden will only hold 4 pods both in the advertisement on their website and on the box itself. Then for those of us who can place them elsewhere, we have the extra 8 plants that were advertised as promised. If only 4 seed pods can fit in the garden then they should advertise it as a 4 seed pod kit with 8 spacers not a 12 seed pod kit. I do have another system where I could have placed the additional 8 plants in my hydroponic garden. Other than this, this system looks beautiful and elegant in my game room and appears to be very easy to maintain. The light turns on and off as needed. I can easily see whether I need to add water or food and if I forget I should be hearing an alarm. It takes 14.5 bottles of water in each side when setting it up. I used bottled water because the chlorine in tap water sometimes hinders the growth of germination. Then pop in the seed pods followed by the plant food as directed. Now all I need to do is maintain the water and nutrient levels. It is the easiest system I have to maintain. So far I am happy with it. I gave it a 4 only because the 12 tomato plants advertised was very misleading when they actually just include 4. I felt they should have sent me the 8 additional seed pods or extra herbs to make up for that. Also the light on one side was not leveled. Their tech support sent me a photo and instructions on how to fix that but there is not much wire to play with when loosening that small screw to adjust the light to level it. However; to raise the actual light and lower it you just press a button on the top. You only have to mess with adjusting this small screw should your light come in not leveled like mine did on one side.
