Great investment for your drone
by ReviewsByMe (5 out of 5 stars)
September 18, 2018

The FS Labs ND Filter set for DJI Mavic 2 Pro drone may be one of the best investments for your drone. They can help you maintain your ideal settings and chosen aperture, while reducing the light passing through the lens in the process. Without their use, your footage will look jittery, edgy (in a bad way) and unnatural. The FS Labs ND filters allow for the slight bit of motion blur that we typically see in cinema and a clearer picture on harsh sunny days.

Installing them on your drone may be a bit tricky at first if you've never done it. You need to hold down the original lens that your Mavic came with, twist to left just a bit and let go. The lens will slightly pop up and come off. Now take whichever ND filter you want to use and reverse the process.

One of the good things about the FS Labs filters is that they improved the design of the original Mavic lens. On the left and right of their ND filters, you'll notice that there's a serrated edge to them. They are there to help you grip them better when you're installing and removing the ND filters. I didn't realize this as a feature until I tried taking off the original lens that the Mavic came with.

Now the bad part to that, if you want to leave any of the ND filters on, you won't be able to put the dome cover for your gimbal. I tried and it doesn't slip on. Do not even try to force it otherwise; you could break your gimbal.

Another bad part of the ND Filters is that some of them seem to be a bit hard to put on and take off. I'm not sure if it's a manufacturing defect but the clips that hold them onto place feel as if they're either too long where it was hard to take off or too short for them to slide into place. My solution to that was just to wiggle them a bit. I had different experiences with all of the FS Labs ND Filters.

The best part of the FS Labs ND Filters, the picture quality is good, clear and beautiful. I've attached images to this review to show you how they look. The first image is the original lens that came with the drone. Then the next ones after that go from ND4, ND8, ND16, then to ND4 with polarizing, ND8 with polarizing, and then finally ND16 with polarizing. All of these images were from the drone, no photo shopping or image processing for any. My manual settings for them were: ISO100, Aperture 7.1, Shutter 1/60

I do wish that they would have had ND32s for really bright days. Living in Hawaii, we have a lot of those days.

My final conclusion in this review, they're worth their money. It's one of the better investments you can have for your drone, especially if you plan to use it for taking photos or video.

These are version 2. They're better than version 1, and better than the PolarPro filters
by André Jacob Roubo - l'Art du évaluation (5 out of 5 stars)

I chose these over the PolarPro filters because the ND/CPLs offered by PolarPro have a plastic base with an aluminum/glass lens element. These FStop Labs CPLs have no plastic on them. Both the base of the CPL element and the glass mount are made of annodized Aluminum, and the rotation of the element is smooth. Both the FStop Labs and the PolarPro's ND-only filters are aluminum.

All 6 of the FStop Labs filters engage and disengage with the appropriate amount of resistance, and all remain reliably attached without any noise/rattle/jiggle when attached, just like the factory UV filter

These filters (like any good M2P filter) has small steel inserts where the camera's ball-detent engages to keep the filter secure. This prevents wear to the aluminum.

For me, quality is everything, and I have bought the best filters I could find.

I did initially wish for a filter removal tool, similar to the one that PolarPro includes for free, because I think it would definitely help a novice with the tricky business installing/removing filters from the M2P camera. Ultimately, after you learn the trick, the microfiber cloth is more useful than the tool, keeping your dirty paws off the filter glass, and conveniently giving you a way to clean the errant smudge now and again.

Finally, about the gimbal covers:

Both the FStop Labs and the PolarPro filters claim not to interfere with the gimbal cover placement. I can vouch for these being 100 perfect in that regard. PolarPro claims the same, but I wonder if the larger diameter of the PP CPLs makes the process *slightly* more fiddly than it is compared to the FStop filters.

A good set of ND filters is must have accessory for the Mavic 2 Pro.

These ND filters will allow you to film with the correct shutter speeds for the best cinematic look. Without the filters I could not film in 4k 30fps without both raising the shutter speed too high or setting the F-stop in to the range were sharpness falls off. On the Mavic 2 Pro you want to keep the aperture below F8 to maintain sharpness and ideally the shutter speed should be double the frame rate to stay within the "180 Degree shutter Rule."

I filmed in bright daylight with ND16 mounted and was able to keep below F8 at the preferred shutter speed of 60 in 4K 30fps. The ND 8 should work well on more overcast days. I used the ND4 after sunset up until dark with similar great results. I have not had an opportunity to fly over water to assess the polarized lens.

If one films in very bight conditions (desert, sand, snow) then the ND32 and ND64 set will be very useful add on to this primary set.

The fit and finish on the set I received was excellent. They install in the same manner as the stock clear glass. The scalloped edges on the FStop Labs lens are a nice touch and help with getting a grip on these very small lens when installing or removing. The protective case is sturdy and they include a cleaning cloth which you will need.

All-in-all these are a great value and will help you get the best out of your expensive Mavic 2 Pro.

Amazing Value and Performance
by Lindsey C. (5 out of 5 stars)

I have compared these with the polar pros and I honestly prefer these overall. I haven't received all of the filters from polar pro but when I do I will do a full YouTube review. For those who don't want to read the entire review: these match or exceeded the polar pros in every category at half the price! Including image quality!

First, the build quality seems better than Polar Pros. The Polar pro filters had several cosmetic defects while these were flawless.

Second, these match the drone color scheme perfect unlike the polar pro which seems to look out of place (this is subjective)

Third, the coating on the fstop filters seem more consistent. The polar pros had very random sheen which isn't what you would expect

Fourth, a lot of people like the idea of the removal tool that comes with the polar pros but it only works on the unpolorized filters so you can't even use it on their polarized filters

Fifth, when these are in the case you can actually see the labels on the filters which lets you know which filter it is. On the polar pro case for the polarized filters the markings are covered so you have to take them out to see which one it is.

Lastly, the case on the polar pros is magnetic which can cause interference with the drone calibration if you store it in the same bag while traveling. The fstop is a traditional snap/click style which I prefer

Even if these were the same price as the polar pros I would still buy these!!

Amazing job F.Stop you really did a great job!

Great set of filters, awesome value and they fit with the gimble cover!
by Casey (5 out of 5 stars)

For my original Mavic I had purchased a set of the expensive brand ND filters and was happy with them, but people that had lower cost filters seemed to have the same results.

I am a very picky buyer and always research a product more than I should before pulling the trigger. I read good things about Fstop filters, but still was on the fence between these and the more expensive brand... I love having the best. I eventually ordered these and am glad I did!

The build quality is great. They do exactly what you want an ND or CPL filter to do, and I couldn't see any issues with color or image quality when using these compared to no filter at all.

Also, personal preference, but partly why I like these over some of the others is the color. They blend in well with the Mavic gray.

Also note, some other brands have had issues with the gimble cover fitting with the filters on, but these fit perfectly!

The little ridges on the sides make them easier to grip for installation and removal.

The circular polarizers have markers on them, which makes it easier to dial in the right amount of polarization.

Shipping was very fast, even though it wasn't Prime delivery. It still only took two days from shipping notification for them to reach my door.

All in all very happy I decided to go with these filters, and the lower cost means I can justify adding a few more to my kit.

The BEST customer service hands down!

I purchase my DJI Mavic 2 Pro the day it was release, which at that time there was no ND filters available. A couple days later there was only about 2 or 3 companies that had them. I took a risk and bought it as there was no review at the moment, filters came fast look really good. I went away and wasn't able to really play with them then weeks later (about 6 weeks) I was trying to put in one of the filters and gosh it was so hard to fit it to the point it seemed like I was going to damage the gimbal/camera. ( I know it fits a bit tight but this was too much) I was panicking as I kept trying different ND filters and they all were the same and it had already past the return period. I contacted the company thru here (e-mail) and within a couple of minutes they reply back saying to give them my address that they will send me a pre-paid label so I can ship my current filters and they will ship me new ones. I ship them out the following day, and in less than one week I received the brand new ND filters which looked new model updated, this time they fit perfect not loose but not over tight as it was before. I would recommend this company 100% they stand behind their product and super helpful.

A great product for a great price
by Rachel K. (5 out of 5 stars)

If you are looking for ND filters for your Mavic 2 Pro, you should definitely get these.

Just like any other product, this product has its own set of pros and cons, and I will discuss them below:

Pros:
1) True ND filter: These filters are truly neutral and add no color cast to images/videos.
2) The fit: The fstop.labs filters add just like the original lens that comes on the Mavic 2 Pro camera, neither too tight, not too loose/wobbly. And yes, they fit with the gimbal cover as well. I know some people had mentioned that earlier. I think I got the updated version of the filters. But yes, they fit!
3) The serrated edges: I truly think this is the best feature of these filters. It makes putting them on, and taking them off a piece of cake, unlike many other brands where you need a removal tool for the filters, one less thing to carry around in the bag.
4) The price: I was looking at buying a more expensive set of filters, but I am glad I went with fstop.labs. I think they are just as good as any other expensive brand, they do the job!
5) Rotatable Polarizer: I was worried how the polarizer will work on square sized filters, but surprisingly they work! and they are great.
6) The case: I think it's a great addition, since you have all your filters in just one place, protected from outside elements and potential scratches.

Cons:
1) Color: It's not really a con since you know what color you're getting, but I wish fstop.labs had these filters in other colors just to make them pop out even more (who doesn't like an addition of color to their drone haha) like some other filters out there.

Overall it is a great product. If you are looking for a set of ND filters for your Mavic 2 Pro, to lower your shutter speeds, these are a great addition.

Exceptional Quality for a Critical Mavic 2 Pro Accessory
by Scott S. Lynde (5 out of 5 stars)
September 25, 2018

This comprehensive filter set provides you with everything you need to create vivid photographs and "cinematic" video with your Mavic 2 Pro drone.

The build quality is outstanding. The metal frame feels very strong and durable, and the ridged edges definitely help with installation and removal of the filters. (Unfortunately, this is not the case with the stock "Hasselblad" protective filter that comes with the aircraft; that filter does not have ridged edges, so I found it a bit more difficult to remove and re-install.)

The optics are stellar. There is no discernable loss of image sharpness or contrast, and all filters appear to be neutral with respect to color cast. I have not measured the precision of the neutral density (ND) light-block ratings, but they appear to be accurate.

The polarizers are very effective at reducing reflections and producing vivid blue skies. They also provide an added benefit of compressing the dynamic range of a scene -- which is helpful given the Mavic 2 Pro's limited dynamic range (at least when compared to modern DSLR and mirrorless cameras from the likes of Canon, Nikon, Sony, etc.).

The neutral density (ND) filters provide an effective approach for regulating shutter speed in bright conditions, allowing you to achieve the "180 degree shutter rule," which basically states that the shutter speed should be approximately double the frame rate to achieve smooth, cinematic film. The darker filters would also be helpful in achieving a longer shutter speed for deliberate motion blur creative effects - such as smoothing a waterfall, for example - although the wind conditions will dictate exactly how long of a shutter speed can be used before the aircraft introduces undesirable blur from "camera shake."

Overall I am very pleased with this set of filters and I'm confident that this is the best set available on the marker right now.

A must have accessory
by SuperMom (5 out of 5 stars)
September 18, 2018

I have purchased a few other items from F.Stop Labs in the past and always had good service so when I saw they had the new square style Mavic 2 Pro filters right after the quad released I ordered a set. As usual, they didn't disappoint. If you spent the money on a Mavic 2 Pro this is a small price to pay to improve your Mavic media. These are very beneficial on sunny days as well as cloudy days. I bought the set so I have several choices just ND or polarized ND. Buy these filters, you will be happy you did.

Works well.

First time using ND and polarizing filters. They make a difference. Not as much darkening as I expected, so I just ordered the next level stronger set (32 & 64). This brand has a good reputation. The product is as described, and I have no issues with it. Some of these filters for the mavic 2 pro come with a tool for putting on and taking off, this one doesn't. Just make sure they are right side up, be careful and don't force it. The they go on and off with only a little bit of hassle.
