Bought this for Christmas for my son and he loves it. Its very cool, it had 12-13 bags I believe. A few of the bags were challenging but we did it in a few days and it is very cool. Worth the money and its a good purchase. Comes with a lot and a lot of cool features for kids to enjoy!

WOW! Gorgeous and wildly entertaining!

New for 2019, this kit celebrates Star Wars in a very fun way with its more than 2800 pieces: air crafts, rooms, favorite Star Wars characters, carbon freeze chamber, Luke vs Darth Vader battle, and 19 mini figures total -- it's quite a lot for the senses and the Star Wars fan who wants to relive some of the franchise's greatest memories.

Building it took a couple days (and mostly because we stopped along the way to discuss some of the scenes and memories), and the finished product was stunningly beautiful. The attention to detail that LEGO put into this kit is excellent, and every time friends come to visit us, conversations are almost instantly sparked (even by those who only had seen the movies but aren't die-hard fans.)

This kit is like a play house for the Star Wars fan! May the Force be with you.

HUGE Set with 26 Bags Full of LEGO Happiness!
by Tiger (5 out of 5 stars)
March 19, 2019

There's nothing quite like a giant box of LEGO to make the day AWESOME! First of all, this box has some heft. It's a nice large black box with great images of the set. Box opened, here's what we have: a whole bunch of bags of LEGO, plus another smaller (relatively) box. The smaller box is white and Star Wars Themed, and has a Lando Calrissian quote on it. I really like that LEGO is upping their packaging game with the quotes, which I've also noticed in some of the newer sets. Within the smaller box are more bags of LEGO, a white 16x16 plate, an instruction manual, and two sheets of stickers containing a total of 20 stickers.

The set contains a hefty instruction manual in a single volume that measures just a little over half an inch thick. The first 25 pages of the instruction manual are photos and drawings, and information about the model, the designers, and the design team, in English, French, and Spanish. The instructions themselves, in usual LEGO style, are all pictures and symbols. The last 5 pages of the manual is the listing of all of the pieces in the set - that's a lot of pieces! There are just over 400 pages in the instruction manual.

All told, there are 26 bags of LEGO divided into 13 numbered groups. Within some of the bags are smaller bags, usually containing smaller parts. When you build it, the instructions will have you build using the pieces from the bags labeled "1", then once those bags are completed, continue with the pieces from the bags labeled "2", and so on. I've found that it's useful to open all of the bags for the particular number, but keep the pieces a little bit separate. The pieces aren't randomly distributed between bags - instead, all of the pieces of a particular type may be in one or two bags, so if you dump the bags out and keep the pieces slightly separate, once you've found which pile your piece is in, you may find the rest of them in that same pile or in that one and one other. This is particularly useful in a set of this size.

The set contains 18 minifigures plus 2 droids: Han Solo, Princess Leia (Bespin Outfit) and Luke Skywalker (Bespin outfit), Chewbacca, C-3PO, Lando Calrissian, Lobot, 2 Cloud City Guards, 2 Cloud Car Pilots, Leia (Hoth outfit) and Han (Hoth outfit) Darth Vader, Boba Fett, 2 Stormtroopers and an Ugnaught, plus R2-D2 and an IG-88 droid. That's a pretty hefty lineup of minifigures.

Take note that the finished build is almost 2 feet wide and 2 feet deep, so if you plan to display this thing, plan ahead! If not, a tip for rebuilding it - sort the pieces by types - I usually do something along the lines of "windows and doors", "big plates", "tiny pieces", color groups for pieces for which there are a reasonably large number of pieces, "random" for the pieces that don't really have a classification, and so on. I sort them in stackable trays so I can move them around as needed. Choose trays that are one color (easier to find pieces against a simple background) and not the same color as your more popular pieces (black pieces on black background are really hard to see).

I really like this set. It's a great set for any LEGO and/or Star Wars fan. I love the larger sets, so anything with this many pieces is fantastic. This particular set is based on Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, so if you're a KFOL (Kid Fan Of LEGO) or an AFOL (Adult Fan of LEGO) this will be a lot of fun. Keep in mind that because of the large piece count and some potentially challenging build techniques, the age suggestions for this set is 14+. I've found that children younger than this age who are especially skilled at LEGO can enjoy this also, and it can be a great activity for parent and child to share.

Fantastic set but overpriced, even with Lando
by Dave (4 out of 5 stars)
March 29, 2019

This is an awesome set made even more awesome by the presence of Lando Calrissian. Lego design keeps getting better and this meets the high standards they've been setting. The building complexity is higher than normal, but anyone with patience can get through the instructions. If you have any troublemaking small mamals in the house (cat, human, whatever) it will take them about 3.5 seconds to destroy this set, so keep that in mind. However anyone over age 7 or so could handle playing with this set, and with some help should be able to build it.

Probably my only complaint is that, despite how awesome it is, the price just seems too high. This set to me is worth closer to $149 than $349. If you are a serous fan then that price may not phase you. For someone looking to just have fun, I think the Lego City sets are great for kids and cost a lot less.

Very Fun Build
by Ashley S (5 out of 5 stars)

Lego Star wars UCS (Ultimate Collectors Series) sets are complex, detailed builds that take many hours to complete. Most of the UCS sets we've built have been ships, which were put on display after they are built. This is the first release of Lego's "Master Builder Series" which is similar to UCS but more focused on play, instead of display. This was our first time building a detailed scene / location and it was a ton of fun to build and does have a lot of play value as well.

One of the things that we really like about this set is the build. There are so many different things going on that this set is a fun, engaging build from beginning to end. The instructions vary between building ships and sections of the play set, and the variation of the 4 "areas" plus 2 ships keeps things interesting throughout the build. There aren't any points where you're "slogging" through building a giant single color wing, or building the same thing twice, etc. There are stickers but not too many, and they are relatively large which makes them a little easier to put on.

Once the set is built you have a lot to play with. The ships are small enough to handle and swoosh, and aren't overly delicate. The crazy number of minifigures (19) gives you a bunch of characters for acting out all of the cloud city scenes. The 4 different areas are well detailed and have a lot going on. Our favorite by far is the clever way you are able to encase Han in carbonite.

Overall this is a fun set, with a great build, tons of figures, and makes it easy to play out some of the most iconic scenes in Star Wars.

Awesome! Re-live The Empire Strikes Back
by mk (5 out of 5 stars)

This is an amazing set! 2812 pieces, 19 mini-figs including all your original Star Wars favorites, with great Lego detail and still fairly compact.

One, our family loves Legos. We build them as a family. We put together several sets of Hogwarts Castle to build a 2'X4' collection; Scooby-Doo, Star Wars are also our favorites. Two, I grew up seeing the original Star Wars movies and now get to build and along with the kids play it.

This is a ~2' diameter set even with all those pieces and wallops a punch with basically 4 sections involving Han, Leia and the their group meeting Lando in Cloud City, dining area, betrayal, prison along with C3PO smashing area/rebuilt by Chewy. Arrival of Luke and very detail battle area in the Carbonite chamber with Vader- a slick Han frozen into Carbonite apparatus. That's probably my favorite part, and with Luke hanging by remaining hand before letting goooo...

There's 2 really neat vessels: Boba Fett's Ship and a Cloud City patrol vehicle with 2 pilots. Both quite detailed, especially Fett's, and right on the money. With the mini-figs, I like Chew and his bow, and the robots, I found out who IG-88 is. I like how LEGO relies on visuals, not words, and imagination.

There's nothing like building with one's hands- very relaxing and satisfying. We lay the packs into specific areas on a flat solid surface and take turns putting it together. It states ages 14+, but younger ones can do it. Supervision and practice helps.

These are collector sets. We make sure to save all the boxes, instructions, and keep all the parts and mini-figs carefully stored when taken down. Your following generations will love them.

Summary: Beautiful set, lots of mini-figs which is a big plus and great for the whole family. It took us about 2 weeks in our spare time, mostly on weekends gradually putting it together and savoring it. Now, it's fun to go back and check it out. The kids know exactly how to set the scenes and vary the storyline. No worries Han will be alright.

Fun (huge) Lego Star Wars action playset
by Gaz Rendar (5 out of 5 stars)
March 29, 2019

The Lego Star Wars Betrayal at Cloud City is one of the large Star Wars sets that is an adventure to build, but actually fun for kids to play with.

This is one of the larger Lego Star Wars sets, coming in just under 2900 pieces. There are plenty of small, 1x1 or 1x2 pieces, and specialized pieces in here that are great if you want to use them in your own unique creations at a later point down the road. In terms of building, I'm guessing one person could do it in a full weekend, probably 16 hours or so if you're relatively focused. The age is set at 14+. I think an 11-12 year old who can be totally focused, patient, and has been playing with Legos for some time will be able to get through the build by themselves. A set like this though, is a lot of fun for a parent/child to assemble. In this case, an 8 or 9 year old who has Lego experience and loves Star Wars will have enough motivation to build the set with hands on guidance from a parent (but obviously, the build will be more like two or three long weekends to help a younger kid along).

The box was fairly well packaged and only had slight ding on the corner from shipping. Inside the box is another box with more pieces, the instruction manual and stickers. In total the pieces are organized into 26 bags, although there are some mini bags inside the main bags. The manual is dense, but as easy as it can be to follow along. When you're putting this together, you're going to want a large table, especially for the first half of the build. You can get an idea of what you're in for with the included picture of the bags spread out on the table and Lego Boba Fett next to the instructions for scale.

I personally have not seen the old or new version of the Lego Millennium Falcon monster set. This set is half to a third of the size of those sets, pieces-wise. But while the Falcon is super cool, that is definitely more of an adult collector model. This Bespin set can be set up as a neat model, but it has essentially all the cool figurines you'd want from the original Star Wars movies, plus two ships including the iconic Slave I, and so many different miniaturized Bespin movie set locations that this is a large Lego set that your kids will want to actually play with. It's a great balance in design from the Lego people that it can be both a fun, interactive toy or a proud display item.

If you have the money for it, and the space for it, and the time to build it....it's a truly awesome Lego Star Wars set.
