Save your back, it's worth it!!
by Jessica (5 out of 5 stars)

Omg worth every penny!!!

I had this on my wish list for the past 2 winters, while I suffered through a spinal injury + lifting the snow + dreading having to go shovel bc of the pain. My injury is permanent and I live alone while fiance is deployed. This year I hit "f-it" and decided to spend the money to save my back. Omg I love this thing, worth every penny, wish I bought it sooner. Dry snow it handles with utter ease, wet snow can be handled with a smaller pass or just going over again, but NO LIFTING SHOVELS FULL OF WET HEAVY SNOW!!!!!

Thank you for giving me back a small piece of my independence (no longer asking neighbors for help), making snow fun again, and just being a great product.

Beware of cord
by Nick G (3 out of 5 stars)
January 20, 2019

First and foremost it works... what I'm giving 3 stars for is the assembly and overall legth of the handle. From the instructions the assembly is rather simple... just connect the ends of the handle and your set... but what they fail to tell you in the instructions is that you might encounter the cord going through the centers of the pipe being to long wich very much impedes on attaching the poles together. To overcome this you have to unbolt the cover that attaches the lower pole to the main housing. With that unbolted you can pull the cord in to allow connection of the handle pieces. Have a helping hand when you do this as its a real pain trying to jugle putting it back together.

Now for the overall length of the handle, I find it to short... I'm 5'8" tall and still have to stoop to push it.

Light Weight, Narrow Path, Battery Operated, Powerful and Convenient Use & Storage. Enjoy!
by Tom McGee (4 out of 5 stars)

I live in Castle Rock, Colorado. It snows a lot here. Although I have a pretty powerful snow blower, like me, it is getting old and sometimes hard to start and to keep running. On those occasions, I have been relying on my good old snow shovel and personal stamina.

At 69 years old this task is not getting any easier; however, it does help me stay in shape and gives me some exercise time burning calories that I monitor on my iWatch program when I feel the need to brag.

The other day, I noticed a young man using a battery operated snow shovel that looked pretty neat and struck up a conversation with him. He said he loved the machine, but wish he would have bought an extra battery because he sometimes forgets to charge the battery and ends up pulling out the trusty shovel.

I took his advice to heart and bought both this snow shovel and the extra battery in an effort to eliminate the trusty old shovel when the powerhouse snow blower in on the blink. I am glad I did because the battery pooped out before I finished the job on my first use before the second battery arrived and it takes 3.4 hours to recharge the battery.

At only 11 pounds and a 7-inch path, this product makes it easy to remove snow from steps, porches, patios, decks and walkways, but it is not a snow blower. It works like a snow blower; however, in deep snow, you have to remove the snow in layers. It will stop if the blades get more than about 7 inches in the blade.

It does blow the snow quite a distance and is much faster and easier than a regular shovel. I got a pretty good workout in my arms and shoulders the last time I used it because I had to shave off several layers of deep snow.

Reading the safety instructions are a must before using this product. Rocks can become lodged in blades. In those cases, users must be mindful to remove the battery and wait for several seconds before putting fingers or tools to remove whatever is stuck in the blades. This is a powerful product that could easily amputate fingers of careless users.

Additionally, the blade is made of durable plastic; however, unlike a steel blade snow blower, the concrete could eventually grind down the blade.

Further, this product does not remove ice and does leave a little bit of remnant snow on the driveway and sidewalks that quickly melts in the sun. Unfortunately, I live on the south side (shaded) of the street where it takes longer to melt.

Overall, I am very pleased with the utility of this product and it is well worth the price for me.

Please use it safely and do yourself a favor and buy a second battery.

Enjoy!

It gets the job done-ish
by Kayleigh (3 out of 5 stars)

I bought this after a snowfall. It snowed again today so I finally got a chance to use it.

A little background - I live on a corner with a 2 car driveway, and two cement paths to my side/back and front door.

For the overall job it's intended to do, it does good. I was outside for 10 minutes and got the sidewalk and walkways done. The driveway seemed pointless based on wind direction and it was still snowing.

It does only shoot forward. If you are doing this into the wind, prepare to be a walking snowman. It does complicate the overall goal of clearing snow as it is only about half the size of a sidewalk in width so since you will have to do two lines, you will end up with blow back.

It does not do old snow, packed snow, or ice. It will stop you at every raised crack in your sidewalk. You might be able to get packed snow if you decide to ram it into it multiple times.

I do still have to stoop quite a bit to reach both the upper and middle handle. I am 5'4"

Assembly was interesting. It's been mentioned in a few other reviews that the cord is too long. I just forced it together and hoped for the best.

If I had had the chance use to the this prior to purchase, I don't think I would have bought it. Most likely I will be investing in a real snow blower for next year. But I do believe that this would be perfect for just a single sidewalk and driveway.

Better than I expected

I got this just in time for the arrival of the Blizzard of 19. Living in Buffalo I am no stranger to snow and wind and cold but this was a nasty one. The reason I bought this is to use on my back deck so the dog can go out and on the steps in front of the house. It cleared the back deck of a foot of snow in about 5 or 6 minutes. The deck is 12' x 12'. It took a bit more work to do the stairs in the front, mostly because the only direction it can move the snow is straight ahead and the snow kept clogging in the railing. All in all it worked better than I expected. The battery lasted through the whole job in spite of the temperature being below zero.

Not to shabby!

Great product for the price. There are some things that would be nice for future models such as being able to direct the snow but knew that before buying. I was able to go 40 min without stopping and able to remove up to 3inches one handed. Higher than that I had to put in more effort but still got the job done.

Instructions very misleading on how easy this is to put together
by brownsfan019 (1 out of 5 stars)
November 12, 2019

Another reviewer posted what to do if you get this, so thank you (I think).

The instructions would have you believe this is very quick and easy to put 3 poles together and done! It could not be more wrong. The power cord is too long out of the box. SnowJoe is aware of this, but apparently have not fixed it.

If you get this, plan to disassemble the bottom pole from the base, pull the cord thru/down making sure not to pinch the cord anywhere and then re-assemble the unit. It helps if you have 2 people there. If you're not comfortable messing with the wiring, I would pass on this.

As for the product's use, I found it was useless in heavy snow that was water logged. It did well in lighter, less heavy snow.

Some things to be aware of with this:
1) Only blows straight. Depending on wind and how you maneuver this, could be blowing back into your face.
2) Battery did not last my full drive, would require 2 batteries to get the entire thing done.
3) It wasn't heavy, but it's not light either. I could see some people thinking it's too heavy b/c you have to use like a shovel.
4) It's not a snow blower, I know that's obvious, but if you expect this to act like a snow blower but smaller, you'll be disappointed. It's a shovel that has an electric part to it.
5) VERY narrow. The specs are listed, but I didn't realize till using it just how narrow this would be. My normal shovel is at least 2-3x as wide as this.

I'll probably keep it around to do the apron and walkway quick in a light snow, but that's about it. It's a lot of work b/c it's so narrow.

Works well, but lacking in ergonomics
by corran_63_horn (4 out of 5 stars)

It shoots snow reasonably well. I've only had it for one snowfall - 5 inches of powder - but considering it's mostly plastic and runs on a battery: I'm impressed.

There are 2 glaring issues that need some work. First [as others made mentioned] is the deceptively simple connecting 2 pole sections to the main unit. The cord inside is stiff and has too much slack to make things easy. Took me 10 minutes of finagling but finally got it by connecting the handle to the middle section first, then that to the main unit. And snaking the bolt around the cord within the pole. Neither easy nor fun, but should by a 45 second job.

The second issue is the size and shape of the pole. It should be curved or bent. Instead: it's straight. I'm 5'10" and have to hunch over to hold both handles. I ended up using just one hand and it still required me to hunch. After 20 minutes my back was as happy as if I had shoveled. But at least I didn't feel exerted as if I had shoveled.

Advice: some people complained about it only shooting forward, making it difficult to do straight line passes. So do one straight line at the edge, then do long angled passes that are perpendicular to the first. It's not rocket science.

My only other complaint is about the replacement batteries available here on Amazon. A bit over forty bucks each but I bought 2. Wasn't until I received them that I realized this blower comes with a 24volt 5.0amp battery. The only replacement batteries [available at this time] are 24volt 2.0amp. They fit just fine, but obviously only 2/5ths the run time. I may still send them back.

Ergonomics not so great
by R. Ells (3 out of 5 stars)

Like the concept and for the price Joe works fairly well. The battery lasts for as long as I want to be using it. I live in VT (where it seems to snow every night) and have to deal with it because I have very small dogs and they need to get outside on their path to go. My husband clears the heavy snow with the large snow blower but the Joe is good for 2"-3" as well as random clean-up. The problem is that it is very uncomfortable for a short person to use and by the time you are finished, the bending over to keep the plastic blade off the ground without having to lift it up is very tiring and hard on your back. It could use some small wheels to keep it rolling as well as a handle that will accommodate someone besides a long armed large person. A larger person is likely to want to use a larger machine anyway so to make this a good fit for normal size people, it needs some tweaking.

Pretty Disappointed
by Todd (2 out of 5 stars)

I would say 27 minutes of run time is a stretch. After the "27" minutes are up it takes approximately 2 hours (way too long) to fully recharge the battery. Unit worked ok on the first use. 2nd use I got about 15 minutes out of it and it stopped working. It's going back. It's a nice idea but many improvements are needed.
