Smart oven, it has its issues
by Sharon E Evans (3 out of 5 stars)
November 18, 2019

I purchased this product because my microwave had died over a year ago and I had wanted an air fryer. I already had a nice countertop convection oven so figured this would give me the ability to do 2 things at once. So after using it since last Friday here are my feelings broken down by function.
1. Microwave: It is a bog standard microwave with 10 power setting and decent control. Have cooked one product in it, peas that steam in their bag, and the results were fine.
2. Convection over: Have done, again, one thing in it. nice preheat feature which brings it up to the requested setting then waits for you to put in the food and tell it how long to cook. Now, for me, the downside, my set point for the item was 350 degrees and over the 15 minutes of cooking I watched the indicated temperature vary from 146 to 152. Now really a good hold for a temperature. Good feature was the food rotated while cooking so it was an even product. Am trying a different item tonight and will update. 11/18/19 update: This evening I roasted some potatoes at 400 degrees for 40 minutes and the results were fine, but I noted that the indicated temperature varied from 382 to 404 degrees during the cooking time. This is a 22 degree fluctuation and feel this is not acceptable regardless of whether it is due to a faulty indicator or bad thermometer.

Air fryer: This is the main reason that I only give it 3 stars at present. There is no, as far as I can see, preheat for this feature and, further, it only has one heat option, 425 degrees. This creates a problem since many air fryer receipts call for temperature setting other then 425. Now, for preheat, you can fool it by calling for convection and getting it up to temperature that way. Since there is only the 425, you will have to play around with time to cook things properly. Yes there are presets, but most of what I would do are not in these presets.
4. Alexa control: So far this seems to work fine. The Alexa button on the front is a good feature so you can bypass having to say 'Alexa'.

As I get into using the oven, I will update this review.

UPDATE 11/20/19: As I continue to explore how this oven functions, I believe that I have figured out why I am getting such wide fluctuations in temperature in the oven box. Because it is also a microwave, the workings of the oven including the heating elements are located in a separate area that is shielded. It is the circulation fan that brings the hot air into the main box but I am thinking that the temperature probe is located in the air stream so when the heating elements go off the cooler air blows over it and drops the indicated temperature and conversely when the elements cut on, the warmer air raises the indicated temperature. I am going to put an old fashion oven thermometer into the box and watch it over the course of a cook. Will report my findings. This also explains why it takes so long to preheat.

Lovely to look at. Does not work as advertised. Overpriced microwave.
by Amazon Shopper for over 20 years! (1 out of 5 stars)

This Smart Oven is falsely advertised by Amazon. It is a microwave with a convection oven which is cumbersome to use because of the "smart" design. This is, by no definition, an air fryer. I have an air fryer but wanted one that could be built-in, so trusted Amazon to provide a great product. Unfortunately, there is no air fryer here. There is a button to air fryer items with exactly 5 menu choices. When I asked Alexa to connect to my device and air fryer chicken legs, she replied, "chickens have two legs." There is no way to set a temperature on the air fryer and it takes at least ten minutes to preheat if you first set it to convection oven and then switch back to air fry (my real air fryer takes 2 minutes and it is barely necessary to preheat). After 15 minutes of "air frying," my chicken legs were raw. As in, they we're still pink. They would have cooked faster in my regular oven. I moved my chicken to my real air fryer and 15 minutes later, voila, they were perfectly crispy and cooked through to the bone.

I have purchased many items from Amazon over the years. I will never again pre-order an Amazon branded device or product until

it has been tested by customers. The original ad stated it was designed and tested in their test kitchen. I am an accomplished cook and use many tools in my kitchen every day. I do not trust Amazon's rest kitchen.

Doesn't work as advertised. Won't give full refund.

After 45 minutes on the phone with tech support it still won't connect to my alexa. What a disappointment that they would send out products that aren't working properly. They had me reset my router, uninstall and reinstall the alexa app, and generally wasted an hour of my life. I will be requesting a refund.

Update. 5 hours later they offered to refund my money. No talk of exchanging it for one that works! Sad......

Update: fighting for a full refund because they want to charge me a return shipping fee on a faulty product. I will never buy from Amazon ever again. I will not accept your refund.

I want a supervisor to call me

Not impressed so far

I bought this on a whim after having to replace an existing microwave. All of the features plus Alexa integration was intriguing. The first thing I tried was to air fry tater tots using Alexa command. That didn't turn out so well - tots weren't crispy at all. Then I tried telling Alexa specific parameters that would normally result in awesome tots from my normal air fryer. Again, disappointing results. The oven never reached the specified temperature before time was up. Today I simply tried pre-heating the oven to 400. It took a surprising amount of time. My tots would be done in the normal air fryer before this unit even got to temp. This unit shouldn't be advertised as an air fryer - it simply doesn't get hot enough in a timely manner or move enough air to be used in any effective manner as an air fryer. I must say I'm quite disappointed and will likely not use this "feature" again. Guess I'll be keeping my existing air fryer. As for use as an oven - given how long it takes to pre-heat, I doubt I'll be using this feature either. I might as well use the normal oven which heats up faster. I don't really see a use the 'keep warm' function yet, so all that's really left is a microwave that you can talk to. Talking to the microwave is certainly novel. However, it seems faster to just push buttons. The smart features are very limited at this point. Commands have to be very precise. Instead of saying "Alexa - reheat one cup of coffee", I tried saying "Alexa - warm a cup of tea" for me. Whereas the first command would start the microwave, if the command is not precise or you drink tea instead of coffee, it would ask me for how long. Until Alexa gets a lot smarter, pushing buttons would seem faster. As for any other 'smart' features, it remains to be seen how easy they are to use. So far, I'm not impressed. Other than being able to talk to the microwave, I haven't seen the benefit over my old 'stupid' microwave except for the fact that it's dead. RIP old microwave. I'll update my review if I find more benefit to the new microwave/oven.

45 pounds of disappointment
by SewNovice (2 out of 5 stars)

I preordered this 'smart' microwave after reading the glowing description written by Amazon. I waited for weeks for the thing. Got it set up and tried out several of the functions, including microwave, air fry, convection bake, and alexa commands. What I received was cold, hard disappointment.

Firstly, this is a beautiful stainless colored microwave and the microwave function works great. That's the only good thing about it, hence the 2 stars which might even be generous.

Air fry: This oven has only one air fry temperature setting which I believe is 425 degrees. Not all food items air fry at 425 degrees. Matter of fact, no air fry item I've cooked (I've owned air fryers for the past 4 years), cooks at 425 degrees. Not only that, but you can't even preheat the air fryer function. The food has to be cooked on a tray (per the manual) which does not allow air to circulate all around the object, leading to a soggy bottom, even with turning. Oh, and if you open the door to check your food, or turn your food, the temperature drops by 200 degrees within seconds! The temperature fluctuates wildly even with the door closed, as evidenced by the thermometer on the oven. Given these fluctuations and the oven's difficulty heating to the desired temperature in a timely fashion, it took twice as long to cook my food item as it does in my stand alone air fryer. In the end, I ended with an item that was more baked than air fried and not crispy at all.

Convection Bake/Bake: Again it took the oven forever to heat to the desired temperature, then it couldn't manage to maintain it, fluctuating up to 20 degrees with the door closed! An item requiring precise temperature control, i.e., baking, would not fare well in this oven.

Alexa: After clearly enunciating my command to air fry my item for 20 minutes, Alexa decided to microwave my item for 20 minutes. The words air fry and microwave sound nothing alike, Alexa. There was a metal rack and pan in the oven! Yikes! It's a good thing I was standing nearby to quickly stop the microwave.

I then decided to contact customer service because I felt the write up for this item was quite misleading. I received some canned response from a chat which made absolutely no sense. I made it clear to the rep that I would be writing a negative review of this item and the reply was "sure".

Overall, this is a beautiful and functional MICROWAVE ONLY. If you're hoping to replace your other appliances with this one, forget about it. I have decided not to return it, as I don't want to lug an oversized box to UPS or anywhere else. Had I known this, I would have purchased a much cheaper microwave.

Update: I tried making a simple 12" frozen pizza in the oven. It took 20 minutes for this oven to preheat to 425 degrees. My large range oven doesn't take that long. The included tray that you're instructed to use for practically everything is just shy of being large enough to fit a pizza. Seriously? A frozen pizza is a common item that one might want to cook in this small oven! I placed the pizza on the tray and closed the door as quickly as possible. The oven dropped to 320 degrees. Now a small pizza requires a short cook time, 15 minutes. This oven was never able to get up to temperature. The highest it got was 386 degrees. My pizza came out of the oven with a beautifully browned top and a pale soggy bottom. If it can't even bake a frozen pizza appropriately, what good is the oven function at all? This is definitely the worst amazon produced device I've bought, and I've bought many.

No air fryer
by Bo (1 out of 5 stars)
November 21, 2019

As the others have mentioned, there is no air fryer. Amazon can't call it what it wants but it takes the same amount of time to cook something with convection oven compared to air fryer. It's really just false advertising. The " air fryer is really just a convection oven with a very weak fan, resulting in virtually no difference in cook time. I pre-ordered this and waited two months for a disappointment. Furthermore they force you into ordering an echo dot which they charge you $40 for and then around $210 for the microwave. The Echo Dot is worthless and it's sitting in a drawer somewhere.

Update: I'd assume this is a huge liability issue for amazon: what happens when you tell Alexa to "toast an English muffin"? She turns on the microwave!!! Ever microwave metal before?

Air Fryer is an absolute disgrace from Amazon
by Kyle (1 out of 5 stars)
November 21, 2019

The air fryer feature is a terrible and almost useless thing in this product.

My expectation is that this should work just like, or even better than, any other air fryers on market, but the truth is that this is hardly an air fryer, nor it lived up to its brand.

First, it does not behave like an air fryer, because it doesn't have any pre-heat options.

Second, there is no temperature settings. The moment you start the air fryer, the temperature just goes up from 0F to roughly 420F, you cannot control it at lower temperature even if you wish to. Because of this, there is no way to follow any recipes online for all the recipes i found requires a certain temperature and time.

Third, the cooking time is way too long. It takes 37 minutes to air fry 6 pieces of chicken tender, where other air fryers only takes half the time. I often had to add 10-15 more minutes to make the tender more crispy.

Forth, the quality of air frying is horrible. 37 minutes for 6 pieces of chicken tender is not even cooked to standard where it barely has any crispyness.

Fifth, the description for air frying on website is very minimal. I was surprised when i unboxed the product and came with a metal pizza pan, a glass pan, and 2 metal racks. What sucks is that i have to stack the metal pan on top of the metal rack on top of the glass pan to cook. I clearly don't see any pictures nor instructions of how it works on the website when i purchased, otherwise I would never even consider this product.

Sixth, because there is no description on site how air fryer works, the room for air fryer is much smaller than you expect. Although the interior size of the microwave oven is pretty big, the amount of stuff you can actually air fry is quite low, because you are limited by the size of the pan. And because its leveled by the metal rack, you can't air fry things thats too big or too tall, or it wont fit into the microwave oven.

At the end, I certainly do not expect such a product from Amazon.

Nice 4 in 1 oven/microwave. The Echo functions are a nice bonus.

So far it's been working great for both oven and microwave tasks. Made biscuits last night and re-heated lunch today. Pretty neat to tell Alexa to pre-heat the oven and how long to run the microwave. Pre-heating was very fast to 350F (maybe 5 minutes, I didn't time it) and the biscuits came out very evenly baked. Microwaving my bowl of leftover breaded fish and cream sauce for lunch took one minute and fifteen seconds. About right for a microwave of this size.

I replaced a single purpose microwave oven that worked fine, but we liked the idea of a 4 in 1 appliance. Haven't tried the air fryer function yet.

Setup was a snap. No surprise there. Nothing more than adding a device to the Alexa app and then selecting an Echo speaker to pair the Alexa button on the oven with. In my case I paired it with a 1st Gen Echo Show sitting on the counter below the oven.

I'll update my review if my impression of the new appliance changes. But all indications now are that we'll be happy with it.

Jury is still out.

I preordered this 4 in 1oven and it arrived on day of release. Mine also has a leg shorter (right front) causing the oven to wobble. I was going to send it back but after a few conversations with Amazon customer support they were able to make it worth my while to keep the oven. It is bigger than I thought but I would have known that if I had measured it out on the counter. I was also having a problem with notifications being sent to Echo show and phone while using microwave (notifications work on convection mode) but seeing this is something new I expect some bugs that have to be updated. 12/5- Have not tried air fryer yet but don't expect much from reviews I have been reading. It is what it is. We have so many Echo devices that my neighbor says his lights dim when ever I say Alexa. I will keep buying Echo products hoping for improvements down the line.

Needs improvement with oven/air fry functions.
by Allie C. (3 out of 5 stars)
November 19, 2019

We purchased this to free up counter space from our microwave and air fryer. Plus we love a countertop oven because it is only two of us. Combining all is perfect. Alexa voice control was the final feature that made me choose to by this one.

Microwave - No issues with the microwave features. I love operating those features by voice. Microwave, defrost, reheat all work as expected. Edit Nov 20, 2019: I tried to head something in the microwave for 2 minutes today. The display counted down and said 'Microwave" but the item was cold. Did it microwave at low power or something? I have no idea because the display does not show power level. I specifically asked, "Alexa, microwave on high for 2 minutes." for the second try and it worked as expected.

Air Fryer - Really lacks features.. I can't control temperature? Not impressed. Results do not compare with our stand alone air fryer.

Oven - The temperature does not seem to stay consistent. I'd check and the temp would be 20 degrees lower than I had set it. Roasted sweet potatoes were not finished when expected and delayed dinner one night. Took a long time to preheat for such a small oven. My full-sized oven comes to temperature more quickly.

Design issues - I hate the trivet "racks". My husband has already burned himself taking a pan out of the oven and the rack toppling out. I'd much rather racks that spanned the oven and pulled out like every other countertop oven/toaster I have owned. (Edit: In no way is it Amazon's fault that he was burned. I want to make that clear.) Or even if the trivet racks were larger and more stable I'd be happier.

I'm honestly on the fence if I should keep it. One more delayed dinner because an item didn't bake or roast as expected and I think it will be returned. I like small appliances because they save time, this oven so far has cost me more time than if I'd used my full size non-convection oven. I expect more.

Update 11/24/2019 - We decided to return the oven. The temperature fluctuates wildly and I cannot depend on it to bake accurately. I spend more time cooking with it than the appliances it was to replace. Our air fryer can preheat in 5 minutes and cook within 12 minutes. The same item in the Amazon oven took more than a half hour because the temperature is not consistent. I wish it worked as expected. It would be my favorite appliance if it did.
