Fun beer kit

This beer kit comes with so much stuff its great! I got this for my fiancè for Christmas. Yesterday we decided to make it and I was definitely happy. The directions were clear to follow and it was fun to make. It has to sit for 3 weeks to brew but we don't mind. The experience of making it was worth it. (It comes with two breweing extracts so its totally worth the price). All we had to buy was a pitcher, a pot, and 3 gallons of water. Everything else comes in the box

For somebody who has never made their own beer, this is perfect. It really is a discouraging turn off to go to the local home brew supply store, and be told that if you want to make your own beer, you must buy $125 or more just in equipment to get started, and that doesn't include the cost of ingredients. Mr. Beer simplifies the process, and gives you something that works well for less than half the price. I just tried my first batch, and I am quite pleased by the smooth and bold taste that I got. This is a great way to make your own beer in a environment in which you are cramped for space, which those expensive kits demand lots of. Using this doesn't make you less of a home brewer, it just means you are frugal and can't necessarily afford lots of space for making your own beer. Simply put, this kits is great.

The keg leaks at spigot, but Seller will do no long-term fix!

Right from Step 1, you would be having issues. The picture of washer orientation is incorrect. Description on Instructions says,"narrower edge facing spigot threads", but the picture on Instructions is opposite! Then, the can of hopped malt extract is very difficult and frustrating to open.

I give it the lowest possible rating because I'm not the only one having this leaking keg issue. The manufacturing of 2 gallon keg is defective due to the spigot being placed right on the ridge! Seller knows about it but will do nothing about softening the ridges or changing location of spigot or making the spigot connection area smooth so it does not leak!

This is not a "necessity" product...I mean you can live without it. It is a "gift or hobby" type of product, so customer user experience and ease of use should be #1 consideration. How would you feel when the recipient of your gift is unable to complete Step 1 because Seller sends kegs that are deformed and will ALWAYS leak unless you use a sand paper and spend time chiseling excess plastic off the ridges. I am returning it to send a message to the Seller to do some long-term fix about it. I strongly recommend all buyers facing leaking keg to not ask for replacement. Rather, just return the product so Seller gets a strong message about improving it instead of running away from the main issue.

I am so disappointed in this product

I followed the directions exactly. I waited and followed all the steps, for the entire process, which took over a month. I am so disappointed in this product. The entire batch, all the bottles....are totally flat. The carbo tabs did not work. Completely disappointed. I'd really like my money for this purchase refunded.

The kit was a gift and we just made our first batch. The directions were simple and easy to follow. My only and biggest complaint is when we finally were ready to drink the beer, almost half the bottles had lost carbonation and the beer was undrinkable. It appears many of the tops that came with the bottle failed to seal correctly. (And yes, we did them all the same). I will order another round of bottle tops and see if the next batch comes out better.

For very little money this is a very good place to start if you have any interest what so ever in home brewing. I am on my 3rd Mr. Beer batch. I have learned a great deal about brewing for very little initial money. Yes, there is a good chance that if you love home brewing you will move up to a 5-gallon kit, but even then, no real money lost with this inexpensive kit, mostly paying for the beer mixes which you will drink so not wasted. Yes, there is a good chance you could mess up or just not like the quality of beer made and again little lost on this purchase. For me, I like the 2-gallon size. I like the creating and brewing as much as the drinking, so 5-gallon batches would be too much for me (although following economics of scale it is cheaper per gallon). Some of the older reviews (pre 2013 or so) refer to the old Mr. Beer style equipment and beer batches. I never tried those but "most" agree the new Cooper's stuff is better. This is a hobby (like most actually) that you will get back what you put in. If you just want to add water, mix and drink a few weeks later, you probably don't care much about the beer you drink or you will be greatly disappointed. If you want to learn how beer is made, understand the basics and slowly learn to expand you abilities and the beer you make, this kit will work fine. I am now adding hops and malts and steeping grains in a standard Mr. Beer batch, none of which are required, but also very possible to enhance and customize your final product. There is a pretty good amount of info online and dedicated Mr. Beer group eager to answer your questions and a good variety of beer mixes to choose from and experiment with (and once you know what you are doing you don't have to just use Mr. Beer ingredients, you can use any you like, scaled as needed). There may very well be better, larger, more expensive kits out there and of course you can spend 1000's on all grain brewing, but for bang for the buck and the POSSIBILITY (if you make the efforts and have patience (something you truly need a great deal of in this hobby)) of making some pretty good beer while you learn how deeply you want to take this hobby, this is a pretty good place to start and learn. I don't see myself replacing my kit anytime soon, just learning more about brewing and modifying my recipes.

Inaccurate description

When I read what this included, it says it comes with the Pilsner and the Mexican or American beer. So that makes me believe I'll get a Pilsner and either the Mexican or American. I got the Mexican and American. Funny, those are both only $14 when the Pilsner is $24. The box even has what's included on it and it states it has a Pilsner and Mexican in the box. Not a big deal, just frustrating I have to return this.

Great Kit for beginner home beer makers.

Got this for my father in law for xmas one year. He loves it. He is from Wisconsin so they are avid beer drinkers. He always wanted one of these. The process to make the beer doesn't seem complicated at all, especially if you are an avid lover of beer. The fermenting process and all the instructions are laid out in the manual. He actually let his sit even longer than the time allotted because he wanted to make sure it was extra perfect. At the end of the process he said it tasted pretty good, better than he expected from a home brewed beer. So I would definitely recommend this to someone who is trying to get into the beer making process.

Beer brewing made easy.

I ordered this and so far have made two batches of beer. They both turned out rather well. The key is keeping everything sanitized. Also depending on the style you are brewing try to maintain the temp. the style calls for. I used a cooler with an ice pack and a thermometer. My kit came with a light lager and an Octoberfest. The light lager when finished was a dark amber and had a good flavor(I am not typically a light beer person). The October fest was even better. Mr. Beer also has a website and user forum so if you have questions you can get answers.

okay for first time brewing

gave this as a gift to my wife cause she always wanted to try to brew her own beer. The brewing process was simple with the pre-made malt extracts. we followed all the instructions and waited the proper time. when it finally came time to where we could try out the beer we made, we were left half disappointed. The taste of the beer tasted fine just like some other basic beers, but the carbonation between the different bottles that came with the kit was all over the place. 1or 2 of the bottles had the carbonation level that would be expected in beer. most of the other bottles had a little bit of carbonation, but not enough for the beer to be enjoyable. and the last couple bottles had no carbonation at all. Dont know if it was something that we messed up since it was our first try. But since we did the same thing too all the bottles, we suspect the bottles provided dont seal for the beer to properly carbonate. we will try to a different bottling process and give it a second try with the other malt mix that came with it.
