Pretty good

I was having trouble figuring out how to warmly wear baby in the cold weather. I couldn't get blankets to stay up, my jackets wouldn't close at all, and I didn't want to wear my son outside my coat because I prefer having him closer to my body. So I tried out this vest. It's pretty good - it does keep you and baby warm. Downsides: baby can't chew on carrier straps, which is one of his favorite in-carrier past-times; baby can't rest his head on your warm chest - he tries, and instead gets a bunch of cold, sometimes snowy and wet fleece in his face - yuck!; I don't see how you can do a side-carry (I haven't tried a back carry with the vest). I also don't think this would work with a very tiny baby - seems like they'd need good head control for the vest to work well. Pros: keeps baby's hands and feet warm! Helps keep you warm too, and keeps you and baby close. It's comfortable, soft, fits well. (I've used it with the Ergo and Baby Hawk mei tai carriers.) And when you are going from indoors to outdoors, it's fairly easy to unzip and allow baby to not overheat. Overall, I'm glad I have this fleece.

Love this!

Great warm cover to keep my little girl warm as i carry her in our ergo!

We just went to the zoo with temperatures below freezing. There was ice on the ground & my little girl and i had only jackets (north face jackets, so relativly warm) on and sweaters under them. No need for the heavier coat version of this, the fleece peekaro was plenty warm bc you share your warmth under this. We wouldnt have gone out in temperatures this low with such a little one without this. A heavy coat on her would not have kept her as warm as this did.

A medium fits me (130lbs, 5'6") & my 1 year old (25-50%) just fine with room to grow. Her feet are even still covered bc it is so long.

It is difficult to put on & take off, so i would not recommend for trips from the car to the store if you have to remove it alot.

Not for us

I'm sure other people swear by this, but we tried this when my daughter was 8 months or so, and she just hated it. It was too snug on her, and too snug on me, and she couldn't move her hands around to see anything. I returned this, and instead paid a little more money for a product that extends my own coat over her. It's called Coldsnap from Hatch Things, and that's what worked for us this past winter.

LOVE in NY

i LOVE this product and think it's essential for baby wearing in the northeast. i've used it over and over this winter and can't imagine life without it. if you prefer wearing your baby rather than putting him in a stroller and live in a cold climate, definitely consider this item. i find it to be a little bit short as my son's feet are exposed but it is not a big issue because i dress him warmly and it is easy to pull my coat over them on very cold days.

things i like:
1. fit is pretty nice. not too tight or loose, good for layering with a regular sized coat.
2. small pocket: useful for keys or wallet or cell phone (i actually prefer the small size of it as it prevents me from loading it down with too much stuff).
3. provides a small amount of warmth that's good for relatively warm days. the zip up turtleneck part keeps your neck out of the breeze.
4. relatively easy to get baby in and out

very comfy, but neck opening a bit small for my child's head
by Betsy Finn (4 out of 5 stars)

My child has a larger head (we are talking 98th percentile), so the neck opening wasn't really all that comfortable for him. I had to open up one of the seams (good thing I am handy with sewing). Otherwise, this was comfortable, the vest was long enough to cover his toes, even into the second year of life. I wore this layered over a fleece jacket for a winter fundraising walk and was very warm. It was worth the investment, and if your child has a normal size head I bet you will avoid the problems I had.

Good idea, but didn't work for us.

After looking all over for a winter baby carrier cover, this seemed like a great solution. You can keep your child close, utilize body heat, and both stay warm. What I didn't think about is that the baby's arms are completely restricted inside the Peekaru, and my daughter HATED IT. Maybe a younger baby would be ok, but at 9 months old, kids want some freedom of movement.

Love this! Keeps both me & baby super warm.

The Peekaru is very easy to put on and keeps both mom & baby warm. I would highly recommend buying this, especially if you live in a winter climate and like using your carrier. I use an ergo & it works great. My cousin uses it with her Bjorn. I think it runs a little big. I bought the medium but could have gone with the small. I kept the medium b/c it isn't a fashion statement having a bit of extra space didn't bother me. I usually wear a 28 or 29 size jean.

My favorite thing!

This vest is one of my favorite things. My daughter stays so snug and it's also nice and soft for her to lay her head down and take a nap. I am on my second child, and this is a must have to go to the playground on brisk days, or other outdoor activities. I live in New England, and most days, I don't even put a jacket on my daughter, just keep her snug inside the Peekaru (In very cold weather I'll have to dress her more warmly underneath). I get tons of compliments on it, everyone loves it. I also love the fit. I ordered the large (I probably could have gotten a medium, but I like the extra room in the large. I wear a size 10 pant and a M or L top) and it hits just below my hip to cover up my "problem areas".

I was frustrated with this product for the first week or so because it didn't have any pockets, which was annoying, but then I found the pocket, which is on the right side hip, and now it is absoutely perfect. The pocket fits my iPhone perfectly, and I can sneak in some mittens or my camera or keys.

My daughter is only 4 months, so I haven't tried it backwards yet, but I'm sure I will this spring or next fall.

I definitely recommend this product to any babywearing mom!

Awesome!

This is really awesome! I love it! It took a while to arrive (with free shipping, ordered March 7, estimated delivery was April 6-27, shipped March 9, received April 9), but so worth it! The material is super soft. True to size and color. I am using it over the baby wrap with my 2 months old son in it! It is just what I wanted! Don't get bothered with having all eyes on you in the streets while this on you! :)

Warm and toasty!

I bought this to go over my Beco Butterfly II. It's perfect! I bought a medium size. I'm 5'1" and weigh about 120 lbs. I have a smaller 13-month-old (he weighs about 20lbs and measures 30+ inches) and I wear him front-facing most of the time. We live in a nice town and have a dog so we like to go on walks often. In "warmer" weather (above freezing) it's good to wear with just long sleeves underneath (for the adult). Actually, I would say that I got a little warm in it, but it seems that my kiddo was comfortable. Yesterday was the first time I went out in freezing weather (30-ish) and I wore my winter coat. Baby was pretty much in regular clothes- long sleeved-shirt, pants, socks,- and a hat. He was snug as a bug! It's pretty easy to put on (the hardest part is zipping it, but once you get the hang of it, it's no big deal). The pocket on the one side is great! I wish it had pockets on both sides, but it probably can't because of the zipper placement. Overall, I'm really glad I bought this and look forward to using it all winter!
