Product Description

Our feet sweat up to ½ a pint per day and every step we take squeezes the sweat and germs from our socks into our shoes and feet. This sweat causes your shoes to become breeding grounds for the fungus and bacteria that cause toenail fungus, athlete's foot, and odor. Our shoes are the only article of clothing that we do not clean, and the SteriShoe ultraviolet shoe sanitizer changes that.

Using germicidal ultraviolet light (UVC) to sanitize shoes, the SteriShoe is the only clinically proven way to sanitize shoes. It is doctor recommended and the SteriShoe sanitizer was even awarded a Seal of Acceptance from the American Podiatric Medical Association. In 45 minutes, it kills up to 99.9% of the germs in your shoes.

UVC works when there is direct exposure to microorganisms; even clear plastic will block its effectiveness so the SteriShoe sanitizer is designed to not block the UVC light. You should not look at UVC light so the SteriShoe sanitizer has safety features that prevent it from working when it is not inside a shoe. UVC has been used for decades to disinfect air and surfaces in hospitals and in water treatment systems to make water safe to drink.

An article in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology stated "it appears to me almost futile to attempt to treat a patient's feet without doing something about his shoes, which...serve as potential reservoirs of reinfection." The SteriShoe sanitizer is therefore designed for people who have athlete's foot (tinea pedis), toenail fungus (onychomycosis), diabetes, chronic shoe odor, and people who are concerned about general hygiene.

The SteriShoe sanitizer is the only shoe sanitizer accepted by the American Podiatric Medical Association.

Features

  • The only clinically proven way to sanitize shoes. The SteriShoe ultraviolet shoe sanitizer earned a Seal of Acceptance from the American Podiatric Medical Association; a study about its ability to clean shoes was published in the Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association; and it is recommended by over 1,000 doctors.
  • Kills up to 99.9% of the germs that cause shoe odor, athleteÕs foot, toenail fungus and warts inside shoes. When preventing or fighting foot infections wearing sanitized shoes is a mustÉyou donÕt want to step into shoes filled with microorganisms.
  • Safe: Designed in the USA, the SteriShoe sanitizer uses UVC light to clean the inside of shoes, not chemicals. UVC can burn to the skin and eyes when it is improperly used. To ensure safety and proper use, the SteriShoe sanitizer has safety features that prevent it from turning on when it is not inside a shoe.
  • Easy to use: Insert it into a shoe, plug it in, turn it on and 45 minutes later the UVC light turns itself off. 24/7 U.S. based customer support if you need assistance.

Odor & Germ Free, that's Me!
by 1 angel lady (5 out of 5 stars)
October 14, 2013

I thought that it might be a little complicated when I first ordered this product. However, it turned out to be so quick and simple to use.

Each morning I follow this routine: #1. place a sanitizer inside each of my shoes. #2. place each shoe into it's own little purple sanitizing bag and pull the drawstring tight to close it. #3. Press the little button on each shoe to start sanitizing #4. I now have 45 minutes before the sanitizers are done and turn themselves off. I use this time to bathe and get ready for the day. #5. I feel good about myself when I put on my sanitized shoes, which are now odor free and no worry about fungus or germs. WOW, I am proud of myself for buying this great product. I rated this a five star only because it is well worth the money I paid for it. I highly recommend it to everybody. :)

SteriShoe - returned within 30 days
by JC (2 out of 5 stars)
May 10, 2013

I had the laser procedure last year for nail fungus on my left foot- 4 nails removed. After a year (and one more treatment without removing the nails) it seems like the nails are almost normal. I go to the gym almost every day and my podiatrist was concerned about some athletes foot. I still use cream on my feet regularly and have been using Lysol in my shoes. The podiatrist told me that the lysol would not kill the fungus and suggested a fungicide spray for $15.

For a more long term solution, and for my many pair of shoes, I wanted a better option. I did a lot of research on the UV Shoe Sanitizers and found primarily three models. One of them are just the lights on a cord but this seemed unsafe and one review said the lights melted the inside shoe padding, another was a stand but to activate it the shoes go on top and presses down on a switch- but the switch then blocks the light from getting to the toe area. The SteriShoe received a lot of good reviews and I liked that the light provides open access to the toe area while being raised from the shoe padding.

The only issue with them is one of the lights was loose (when turned on there where blinking lights vs solid light on the one insert) but this was easy to correct (tightened the bulb LOL).

I have been using them almost daily on my shoes. It does seem to lessen the odor but from my understanding it gets better with continued treatment.

The product is easy to use and seems to do as advertised. I gave 4 stars at this time as it is too early to see if there are long term results using this to keep the athletes foot/nail fungus in check.

UPDATE: Returned the product. The left insert kept having issues, blinking three lights for a loose bulb. I would have to open and close the plastic shoe tree a few times and insert to get it to work. This started happening every use after a week, then after two weeks I took about two-three times to get it to work. This is a shame as the overall product seemed to be a godd design.

No Noticable Difference
by KH (2 out of 5 stars)

Thought these seemed to be a great idea. The reviews were mixed, but I thought I would give them a try. I really wanted these to work, but there was no noticeable difference in the shoes. Tried them on various shoes--those worn for years and those only worn twice, thinking perhaps the others were too far gone and it would be better to stay on top of the problem. Nothing noticeable. I would not waste my money.

Interesting Concept

We just received our sterishoe and are hoping it will help along with laser toe treatment for fungus. We love that it is easy to setup. Since we just started treatment for toenail fungus we will have to update on this product in six months to a year. If this helps prevent reoccurrence of fungal infections, it definitely will be well worth the money. We also ordered one for my sister so will have to get her feedback as well.

My feet are sterile

I just started using them and I only hope it does what it proclaims to do. It is east to use and seems to work very well. I feel i made a very good purchase. I exercise quite a bit and when I am down my shoes are damp with moisture from all the activity. So any bacteria that might be produced as a result I now hope will be eliminated.

good product and cheapest solution for the price
by S. Stiles (5 out of 5 stars)

I love this product! I, unfortunately, came down with foot toenail fungus. So embarrassing and ugly!!! So, what I did was go get laser toenail treatment and bought one of these. I use it religiously after EVERY time I wear a pair of shoes. It has become a habit and even though that might seem overwhelming it is easy to do with this device. I have it right by my closet and simply insert them into whatever pair of shoes I take off. If I've gotten lazy and didn't do it for whatever reason, then I only have a couple of pairs to do the next day.

The only draw back is that I can't use them with open back sandals. I tried incorporating a plastic shoe box in which I put the sandals and tried to anchor the Sterishoe inside but that didn't work. Also, after reading other reviews I did decide to go with the smaller size which was the right choice. I wear a size 8 1/2 shoe and it really does seem like this thing was made for a big man's size shoe. I wish they'd make one more petite sized because sometimes I can barely squeeze them small enough to insert into some of my shoes. That shouldn't be because it's not like I'm that small!! A size 8 1/2 is pretty good sized for a woman. So, I wished I had bought the small. But, anyway, it was the best solution for the price. I had looked into getting one of those ultraviolet boxes/lockers that you can put any items into but those were super expensive.

The laser toe nail fungus treatment place I went to actually sold the Sterishoes at cost but I had already bought mine and the Amazon price was only $10 more than the clinics price, which I thought was good. I bought the replacement lamps for them at the same time as I bought the unit but still haven't needed to replace the lights yet and it's been a while. So that's good.

I also bought a product from the UK that are teatree wood inserts for your shoes because tea tree oil is supposedly a good remedy for fungus. But those are uncomfortable inside the shoes and I figured instead of wearing this thin layer of tea tree bark inserts I can just sprinkle tea tree oil onto a regular shoe insert. Duh! Also, those were pricey.

Bulb Error on First Use + Update
by Silver (4 out of 5 stars)
July 19, 2013

***Update 7/23/13*** My faith in courteous and kind customer service has been restored. Bottom Line a supervisor approved the warranty replacement of the defective bulb and this person could not have been more helpful. Thank you!! I will update stars to 4 for now and edit when I have tried the product a few times. Cheers!!

Received in Mid May and used first in Mid July (vacations and such). Really!!!! The bulb on the left "shoe" started flashing the error message for "replace me". Ok...I checked the manual; said to interchange bulbs to make sure that it is indeed the bulb and not something else. I did this with a soft clean cloth as recommended and received the same flashing error on the other "shoe". Amazon has a 30 day return on this so I called the company and was immediately told that the only warranty the bulbs for 60 days and they would be "HAPPY" to send out another for $11.95 plus shipping. Indeed!!! Purchase this at your own risk and have fun buying new $12 bulbs every 30 days.

Your shoes are sterilized and ready sir
by spongemonkey (5 out of 5 stars)
May 14, 2012

I recently had the laser toenail fungus removal treatment dealy done to my toes, and was then recommended to either get this or spray Lysol or the shoe spray they use at bowling alleys, into my shoes every night. At first I tried the Lysol and quickly decided I didn't want to have to do that every night because of the smell and also because then you are supposed to wait 48 hours to wear the shoes!

Anyhow, I opted for the SteriShoe. It seems a bit pricey up front, but it does seem like a pretty solid product.

I can't honestly say if it is killing fungus or not, but it does work as described in terms of fitting in my shoes nice and snug and staying on for the appropriate amount of time (around 45 minutes). I can safely say it has eliminated any smell from my shoes, including my workout shoes, which get worn about 6 times a week.

If I had one negative thing to say about it, it would be that it would be cool if it spoke to you when it was done... Something like "Your shoes are sterilized and ready sir", in a sexy female robot voice. But I'm sure that would make the price jump way up and would annoy some people. And then some people would want a sexy male robot voice, and then you would have to make more versions of it.

Ok. On second thought that is a bad idea.

It is perfect the way it is!

Unreliable
by yelllowelle (1 out of 5 stars)
December 29, 2012

I got the SteriShoe in hopes that the smell from my long 12-hour shifts at work could be prevented. I don't normally have a foot odor or fungus problem, but with my sweaty feet stuck in my work shoes for so long, I was desperate enough to try such an expensive product to get rid of the smell. While the lamps seemed to function properly for a couple of weeks, the indicator lights then started to flash. According to the instruction manual, the blinking pattern I was seeing indicated that the bulbs were not properly inserted, and the lamps would not turn on until they were in right. I screwed them back in and switched them between the lamps as the manual suggested over and over. The lamps would start to work fine, and then the indicator would start flashing again. Finally, nothing I did could get them to turn on again. I didn't have them long enough to even know if they were helping with the smell, but I'm now returning them. If the problem was new bulbs were needed, there's no way I'm going to mess with that since I just bought them, and both were malfunctioning.

Overall, they did not work for me, and I regret my purchase. I'm still looking for something good for shoe smell, so I may try another brand.

Podiatrist recommended
by Yours Truly (4 out of 5 stars)
September 15, 2013

If you're being treated for any kind of foot fungus, the usual scenario is to throw out all your shoes. My podiatrist recommended this alternative. The shoe trees emit ultraviolet light, and you place everything in little violet bags when you take off your shoes. I've been using them for a couple of months, and so far, so good.

Smells nice
by Howard (4 out of 5 stars)
August 23, 2014

Certainly does the job - I use the shoe sanitizers once a month or so with my shoes. They are easy to use, sturdy and effective. My only issue is that I think the design should permit them to be used on my wife's and kids' shoes too, but they are too big. I'd give it five stars if there was a way to adjust so that it could fit a wider range of shoe sizes.
